Hi Jessica
Sadly, the only info I have on the Robb connection is Elizabeth born about 1834 who married Alexander Boag on 12 August 1853 in Gartcosh, Old Monkland, and who died on 27 July 1910 in Norwich. The couple had 8 children, 4 I believe born in Scotland and the others in Norwich. I think they moved to Norwich in about 1862.
If you can make any connection with your Robbs I would love to hear from you as I have said I have no other details about the Robbs.
Jeannette

Hi Bob

I don't know where John Boag came from but he married Margaret Williamson who was born in Strathbrook, Uphall in 1782 and died in New Monkland in 1860 and was buried in the East Chapel Churchyard. Unfortunately, I have been unable to verify this as the info came from someone else. They had 10 children - John, James, David, Agnes and Margaret who were born in Uphall; Thomas (2) & William born in Airdrie and Mary and Catherine born in New Monkland.

Their son, James, was born in Strathbrook, Uphall about 1804 although I have failed to find his birth records and he died in 1875 in Gartgill, Lanarkshire. He married Jane Nielson in 1829 in New Monkland. Jane (I think) came from Carnwarth, Lanarkshire.

They had 2 sons that I can find, John and Alexander who was born in 1832 in New Monkland and died in Norwich. He married Elizabeth Robb in 1853 in Gartcosh, Glasgow. He worked as a locomotive fireman at Gartsherrie in 1853 and in 1861 lived in Gartgill Cottage, Old Monkland.

My line follows Alexander who moved with his family to Norwich in about 1862, 4 of his children having been born in Scotland and a further 4 being born in Norwich.

I have been trying to further my information for some years now with no success and if there is any connection with your Boags which would help I would be extremely pleased and grateful for details.

Jeannette

I am interested in your William Boag as I hope he may be connected to James Boag born about 1804 in New Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland. His parents were John Boag and Margaret Williamson but I do not know of any other children they may have had. James married Jane Nielson in 1829 in New Monkland and I know that other members of the family came from Uphall West Lothian.
Could there be a connection?

I believe James' father was John Boag but I do not know if he had any other children. I do know that James & Jane had other children - John, Jean, James and Margaret.
Is there any connection with your Alexander Boag?

Re: JOHN ORR BOAG DESCENDANTS

The details on Boag are far different, especially in his final years, than what is shown online. He himself had no direct descendants in Australia, at all. How could he, when he was not married, at the time of his death? Furthermore, his residence in Australia was actually a lengthy visit, which ended rather suddenly with his death. The name of a place he was supposed to have in, in Australia, does not exist, and it is very obvious that facts have been changed, and the truth set aside, all for the sake of making erroneous assumptions.
It is a sad fact that the same such twisting of the facts and inaccurate data is shown for almost all of the names shown at these entries on Ancestry.

It would be wonderful if you could check a record for me. William and Isabella Short were married July 3, 1808, Carham Parish. Before that I have absolutely no information. Both births were about 1785, going by their death dates in Canada. All of their children emigrated to Canada between 1844 and 1852 except for George who I've never found any information on. Perhaps he died at birth as I have the christening of the other children.
If you have the opportunity I certainly would appreciate it.
Thanks.
Linda

have found james boag he was a captain marriner in merchant navy. I found two entries one of which was on the brig janet that was wrecked in a storm. He saved his crew. The ship was carrying hemp from Krondsadt norway to bristol in england in 1851. The other entry was earlier and 5 members of his ship were murdered for allegedly insulting tribes people on a carribean island but this was denied.

my great grandfather many times removed was called william boag and he was a well known printer he printed works for william wordsworth a famous english poet. He owned a printing shop on dean street newcastle upon tyne england uk. It's still there as a gallery funny enough. Williams wife was jane robson. My grandfathe williams father was john boag born 1760 and his mother was anne bell. William disappeared after 1838 his mother ended up in he workhouse which is strange because the family were far from being poor. Jane actually worked as a tax clerk in local authority so this proves she was educated at home. Hope this is of help.

Hi Jill, Unfortunately i do not know when we came out to Aus. To be quite honest i do not even know my true nationalities. I have been told everything from German, Danish, Scottish, Irish, Spanish and American Indian. Apparently a mixture of these. As far as I know both my parents were from around Northern New South Wales, (Casino) on the Eastcoast of Australia. Dad Died when I was 3 or 4 and the 4 grandparents were deceased by 1978 and mum died in 1986. I'm not exactly sure where the Townsend connection is but I definately remember hearing that Last name on several occasions when I was younger. The names Gunthorpe, Price, Halliday, Innes are all fairly strong in my memory. I'm not having a lot of luck with this. I have put some photos of me and the kids on this site somewhere. If you are a little better at this than I am you should be able to find them quite easily. My childrens names are Chayse Brett Boag and Tyler Michael Boag.
Blessed Be
Gena

Hi Jill, Thankyou so much for responding. I do not really have a lot of information on either of my family histories. All I know is what I had told you in the previous message and that is Thomas Boag Married Isabella Mackay around 1900. I do not know from there who their children were, except for John Roderick Byron Boag. He Married Nora Collins. They then had Byron John Boag, Loyd Clarke Boag and Lola Isabell Boag. My father Byron married Francis Merle Price. They had me Gena Louise Boag and Dad legally addopted my brother and sister. Anthony Brett Boag and Ann-Cherie Boag, my mothers children in a previous marriage. I am so hoping there is some connection I do know that we are from your part of the world. I live on the Gold Coast in Australia. Thankyou so much for your reply. Gena Louise Boag

Dear Gena, I was so pleased to hear from you on my return from holiday. Your and my connections to Boags and Townsends is very interesting. I was Jill Townsend, 1930, daughter of Charles Melville Townsend, 1895-1964, son of John Walter Townsend, 1865-1899. John Walter's sister Frances Sophia Townsend, 1855-1949 married George Boag, 1882. They had 3 children, George, Ella, and John. is this the link you have uncovered, as I cannot find any of the names you have mentioned. I have quite a lot of information we can exchange if we can confirm the link.
Jill
