HI Deborah
I am a Boak from Cumbria and would be interested in any more history you have of the name and where you got your information from.

As you will see I have uploaded my fathers extensive reasearch on the family. Unfortunatley he did it before there were any computers to help. So it must have taken him a lot of man hours in the Carlisle archives.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thomas was in Canada at the time of the letters. I have letters between Thomas Boak, in Canada, and a solicitor in England, as well as John Marmaduke Boak's letters from Australia to his brother. My father typed the information and I have the file, which I will happily share with you. Having both ends of the conversation would be most interesting. Unfortunately, my Dad has been gone for five years, because he would love to see it also.

Check out www.theboaks.com for some other information.

My great grandfather was named Robert Boak born 1829 in Rothbury. His mother was Jessie Boak born 1812. Her parents were Wm. Boak (1757) Barbara Donkin (1759).

Wm. Boak's parents were John Boak (1735) Catherine Gaskin (1735).

I believe John Boak's parents were John Boak (1710) Margaret Spedding (1714).

They lived in Lazenby, but, later moved from there and some of them seem to have settled in South Shields, my branch of the family settled in the Berwick and Rothbury area.

Our families may be connected, if I find out anything more I will let you know.

Regards Margaret.

He married an Anne French and gave birth to my Grandfather Robert Boak in 1917. Unfortunatly I have not got his birth certificate to see who his parents were. Quite frustrating really. Would imagine they were from Tyneside too. Where is your branch of Boak's from? Thanks Karen.

Hi, I am very new to this. My maiden name was Boak and I have been trying to trace my line. I seem to have drawn a blank. I can find a line but fail to see where my line may fit into it. My Father is Robert Boak (born 1944) as was his Father(born approx 1917) they were from South sheilds, South Tyneside. I think his father was Jack. I remember my grandmother talking of an illegitimate child way back in the family and wonder if we come from this line. Don't know if you have any more information. Thank you, from Karen.
It is possible that the parents are John Boak and Mary Downing who were married in Berkeley, Va. I think their son John is in Henry in 1850 so it would make sense that it was them. However, I think in 1850 the son John is married to a Mary. Other censuses have him married to a Ruth. This is far from my line but I have been looking at the Boaks for a friend.

Dear Ann,
I too am a descendant of William Wynkoop and Mary Boak. My great grandfather Lyman W. Wynkoop was their sixth/seventh child who eventually settled in Portland Oregon in the 1870s. His fifth son,Saylor Henry Wynkoop is my paternal grandfather. I have been working on Lyman's history for the past two years and would love to learn more about William and Mary's life in Jefferson.
Regards,
A Wynkoop

Tracing my Grandparents on my late fathers side (Maurice N Boak)

My late fathers name was Maurice Boak, and his fathers name was Norman Boak, I thing Normans middle name may have been Edward, but I am not sure. My late fathers mother was named Pearl. My dad married my Mother (Gill M Yarrow)I think in the 70's before I was born. My mothers side of the family have connections from newcastle upon tyne, UK, but I am not entirely sure about where my fathers side come from. I think my grandfather (Norman) died in Cambridgshire UK. My father (Maurice) died a few years ago now, In Thailand. I believe he may have married someone of phillipine descent previously. But i dont have any specific info on that.

I have been told that my father (Maurice) has 2 sisters, both of which currently live in the U.S.
I am not sure of their names though. My father also had a son from a previous marriage, I believe his name is Thomas. Thomas is slightly older than me. I have never met him though.

Anyway, I am trying to find more details about my fathers side of the family, and where they are all now living. I have tried to glean information from my mother, but I dont have many details.
I have two brothers both of which have the same father (Maurice), their names are Matthew & Jonathan. they are both younger than me.

I would love to hear from anybody who has any Information - especially from the U.S. connection.

My e-mail address is lucy.boak@yahoo.com
Hi, This is email thru Ancestry is the only communication I have received. It does appear to be a problem with the ordinary email system. I haven't had any problems sending and receiving emails fro other people so your storm could be the culprit.
However, I do have another email you could try paul@springlands.school.nz
It is my work address that I can access from home. Don't worry, we will beat the system yet!!!!
Regards, Paul

Here's an experiment.
I still haven't heard much from you.... have never received anything on the Boik/White tree.
Sent you a message telling how Rebecca White got to New Orleans, but no evidence that it actually was sent.
We were without power for 4 days due to ice storms; not sure if that is why we are having so much trouble.
So my experiment is to send this from two mailboxes plus the message board.
If you could just respond to each, I can try to figure out which is or is not getting through.
This is so frustrating. We so much want to learn about Kenny's relatives!
