Hi Stan,
I am also a decedent of this Board family and working on a DAR application. I have found this Board family in a few books. Do you have access to the Jackson County Past and Present 1990? George and Elizabeth are mentioned on page 356. The date of their marriage is given as 8 March 1825, probably the application date, but there is also mention of their children:
"Ruthy, born 1827 married August 24, 1849 Sam S. Starcher, born 1823"
The information was submitted by a Jennifer D. Parsons.

Another place to look is in the John House books. He has written a lot about Jackson County history and the Boards are mentioned frequently. I've heard that his works contain some mistakes but I have found his books interesting and have found some useful information in them. The books are online.

My ancestor, John William Board, was George Board's brother and married to Elizabeth Parson's sister, Nancy Ann.

I hope this was helpful.
Lena Taylor McKee

I am interested in the Ann HICKS who married Abraham BOARD. I am wondering if she was the Ann HICKS who is shown in our family records as the daughter (b 1823 or 1826) of Thomas HICKS and Jane ADAMS of Brean, Somerset. My father's tree shows her as marrying a William BOARD, but I cannot find a matching record.

Ann's brother, Henry Adams HICKS, married Maria Board MORSE whose mother was Mary BOARD, seemingly d/o one of the Ferdinando's BOARD. There may be other BOARD links in the HICKS family in the Brean/Berrow/Burnham area.

Noticed your message re Robert Board.

There are two sites you may find interesting.
genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/otterford

This contains bmd's over a long period and have the children of James and Hester under baptisms.

I can't find the marriage of James and Hester there but I have a James Board bapt 11 Mar 1798 - son of Henry Board and Prudence Manning. This James has a brother Moses Board who is my line of interest.

Beath and Tait 2008 has a number of Boards including Abraham son of James and Hester - that contact is at info@beath.net

Karen Durant also has a tree with the children of Henry and Prudence if this is your line- kdm@karen-durant.co.uk

Let me know if you can connect your family

Regards

Gay

Hi Brian,
My husband name is Paul and we have a son Carl. We live in England in Wiltshire. My husband knows very little of his family history and we only found out about your grandfather by accident when we removed some photos to copy from his grans album. He did know that your grandfather existed but his grandfather and father would not talk about him. So it came as a big surprise to find that Pauls father had written his name on the back of the photo. George (Pauls grandfather had not forgotten his brother as he named his only child after him. I have not got very far researching the Board family. Arthur was born in 1858 in Shepton Mallet so was Mary Louisa nee Hares. George married Gladys Elliott in 1921 in Penap Chappel in Dilton Marsh Westbury Wiltshire. We have a coppy of their wedding photo. Arthur Board looked a very stern man with a bushy beard. I know that Elizabeth got married in 1914 to a Fredrick Pearce. I know Eva married a Swiss pastry chef called Fred Hofer they had a son also called Fred who is still alive and well living in Switerland. Old Fred was related to the Hofer family that made Hovera watches. I think he had a brother who lived in Canada but I think he may be dead. Paul can remember going to visit his Anuty Liz in Shepton Mallet when he was little but he lost touch with them. Paul also has a sister in South Africa so there are a few Boards around.

Hi Mary!

I was most pleased to find your posting today, the first positive response I have ever had. Where are you? I live in Victoria, B.C., Canada, but we are currently in Hawaii so I don't have my family tree info with me. The bulk of my "Board" info is contained in my two earlier postings on this site which I presume you have already seen. My grandfather, Edward John Board, was very tight-lipped about his early life to my dad and uncles, for reasons unknown. I do know that he was a cabin boy in the Royal Navy, was badly treated, and went AWOL with at least one other sailor when his ship docked in NYC. It was an offence dealt with by a court-martial, but I was told that the economy in England at the time was very bad and ship's captains were told just to let deserters go. My dad's oldest brother is the only relative still living (in the Maritimes), but he has dementia. I do know that in the late 70's or early 80's he traveled across Canada and found and recorded Board graves of siblings he never knew about, in Saskatchewan, but I have never seen this data. I hope to acquire a copy of it through my cousin, some time in the future. Please get back to me when you can. I would be interested in any material you would care to share, and I will send you what I have in April when I am back home. Nice to know that I have 'somebody' else out there. Thanks.

Hi Brian.
Edward John Board could be my husbands long lost great uncle. His grandfathe was Arthur John Board who was married to Mary Louisa Barrett Board. They had 5 children Edward,Elizabeth, George(Husbands grandfather), Eva and Arthur.According to 1901 census living in Klimersdon Shepton mallet somerset. Mary Louisa died March 1900. Death registerd in Frome Somerset.Arthur married again in Dec 1900. He uses the name John on the 1901 census. The family moveto Frome according to the 1911 census. We only found out about Edward John when going through some photos belonging to husbands late mother and grandmother and we found his name written on the back of a photo. We also have a photo of Arthur on his own and at Georges wedding. I have not discovered where and when Arthur died. There is also photos of George, Eva and Elizabeth but not young Arthur. I dont think any of the brothers and sisters are still alive. Hope this helps.
Mary

Thanks for the message, Brian. Don't worry about being "tardy"; I well know the problem of getting sidetracked.

I have made no further progress on my Board ancestors. The only male Board descendants I'm aware of from Edmund and Jane were from their son Fred Board. He lived in Peterborough, Ontario and I think had sons Fred Board, Jr. and Harry Board. I have a record of the latter dying in Flint, Michigan on October 10, 1950.

I have not heard of the ancestors you mention in your tree.

I have still been plugging away on family tree stuff. There has been a bit of progress on other branches in 2008, so that keeps me interested enough to continue.

Best to you and your Boards for 2009.

Daryl in Kitchener, Ontario
dcsxnr05@sympatico.ca

Daryl,
Many thanks for your reply of February 24, 2007. I obviously got seriously sidelined somehow since then as I only got back to this site today!!!
I have discovered that my grandfather was born in Knapp Hill, Wells on September 30, 1886, to Arthur John Board (occupation, Carter) and Maria Louisa Barrett Board. I was in England in 2007 but never managed to get to Wells. Further to your reply, my father did have contact with "Board" relatives visiting from Ontario several years ago (mid to late '70's), who may very well be descendents of Edmund and Jane. Unfortunately, I do not know any of their names or where in Ontario they reside(d). Unfortunately, my parents are now deceased, so I have lost that source of information, but I will attempt to find out the Ontario forenames somehow.
I believe, but I am not positive, that my grandfather and grandmother met and wed in Ontario. She was a widow, surname Klanke (or Klankie), whose first husband and young son were drowned in a boating accident.
Hoping you are still 'out there'.
Embarrassingly tardy,
Brian

Frank Board was 3 yrs old in 1920 SC census living with RT & Annie Board & family. Was again listed in a city directory in High Point, NC in mid 1930's. Can find no record of him after that. Does anyone have any information about him?

I am also a great great grandchild of Dorsey Board & Molly Dunn. (Eldorado was my great grandmother) Molly was married to Dorsey first. They lived in Obion County, TN. At some point Dorsey disappeard, I don't know if he died or they divorced, but then Molly moved to Nashville with her two youngest boys Otto and Earl. Later she married Virgil McCracken who may have been a cousin of Dorsey.
I realize your query is a year old and maybe you have found out more by now. Let me know if you have any more information on Dorsey especially! And I can share more about Molly.

Hi there, I know this reply is many years late, but I have the connection to the Board's aswell.

Susannah Lydia was born 19 Sept, 1886 to Arthur Board and Sarah Lillian Thompson.

Her sister, Florence aka Flossy married James Fisher.
James had a sister named Albertha who married William Guy Hinks. William was the son of James Hinks and Mary Catherine Silverthorn. James was the brother of my 3rd great grandfather, Amos Hinks.

I have more info if you are still researching.
Jenn

Re: Board Family In Missouri

Hi;
I am researching the BOARD family from Joplin, Jasper Co., MO. Here is what I have gathered so far:

SHIRLEY ANN BOARD, b.1931, Joplin, MO, died 2003. (I'm researching for Shirley's kids, who are friends of mine).

Shirley Ann Board's father was ROBERT LEON BOARD, born 24 DEC 1907, Joplin, Jasper Co., MO, died 29 FEB 1984, La Mirada, California.

Robert Leon Board's parents were ROBERT LEON BOARD, b.MAY 1867, MO (probably Jasper Co.), married HETTIE ELLEN MUNSON. Robert and Hettie had 2 other kids besides son Robert Leon....BROOKSIE O. BOARD (b.SEP 1896) and MILDRED BOARD (b. about 1913, MO).

I'm looking for the parents of ROBERT LEON BOARD, born MAY 1867, MO. I found them in the 1870 Mineral, Jasper Co., MO census, but cannot figure out if Robert's father is G.N. BOARD, born about 1835, MO ...or G.W. BOARD, or J.H. BOARD.
The census is very difficult to read. His wife is ELIZABETH, and they have children LURA, SARAH F., RICHARD E., THOMAS JEFFERSON "Jeff" and ROBERT LEON.

I believe your JOHN H. BOARD, born 1835, could be the man I'm looking for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bob

My email is jsboard2000@yahoo.com
If possible could you just send me copies of the picture and the obituary?
Darn, I was hoping you were closer so maybe we could share pictures. Do you have any of Hett and Gertie? I have none.
Are you interested in any of the family after Hett? I'm trying to go back to his parents but as I said, no marriage record at the courthouses but they didn't go back much past Hett's birth. Births weren't required to be registered until about 1914 in AR so no birth record. Maybe someday I will find a missing link.
If you come across something, do let me know. God bless.
Sharon

Hello Sharon,
Gertie Lackey is my dad's sister. Some of the items in the West book are incorrect. I also have a copy of the delayed filing of Gertie Butler West Board birth certificate, if you would like a copy let me know. I will need your email address to send you a picture of the headstone and anyother info that you would like. Gertie was married to John Thomas West on February 20, 1912 in Jonesboro, Craighead Co., Ar. They had 4 children, only 2 survived for any real length of time. 2 of the children are buried in Pine Log cemetery not to far from Hett and Gertie. I also have a copy of Heat Boards Obituary from The Daily Press, Paragould, Ark., dated May 25, 1959.
Oh forgot to tell you where I am, Bridgeport, Texas.
