Virginia Boas/Hales Cole

I am looking for information on my ggggrandmother Virginia Boas/Hales Cole. She was raised by Elizabeth Boas (B. 6-4-1810, D. 12-16-1890) and Hugh Hales (B. 8-19-1805 D. 1860). In Elizabeth Boas's obituary in The Vevay Reveille 12-18-1890, Virginia is listed as "Virginia Cole, wife of John Cole, whom she raised from infancy." My grandmother can remember that Virginia was raised by Aunt Lizzie and Hugh Hales. So far, I have found evidence that Virginia was born in Kentucky and spent most of her life in Pleasant Twp. Switzerland County Indiana. I am interested in finding out the biological, if any, relationship between Elizabeth Boas and Virginia Boas/Hales Cole. I also want to find out who her biological parents were. Does anyone have any information on this person or suggestions on how I might find out more?

Virginia Boas/Hales Cole B. ~1850 KY D. 1896 IN
m. John Cole B. 10-21-1845 IN D. 2-12-1884 IN
Children:
Clara Cole B. 2-5-1867 IN D.3-18-1955 IN (my gggrandmother)
Jinnie Cole B. 11-5-1870 IN
Laurence Cole B. 2-2-1878 IN
I am looking for a Ruth Boas from around the Ottumwa area who had a child in 1930 and gave up for adoption at the home in Ottumwa.
Carl,
Is Ottumwa in Davis Co., IA? There were several Boas on the Board of Directors at the Ottumwa Orphanage. I am trying to find my father's family. He was adopted out of the Ottumwa "American Home Finding Association" on June 26, 1930. My father's adoption record shows he was born on June 21, 1930 to a Ruth Boas. I am trying to locate any information on his birth family. Would you happen to have her listed in your files? My father died on October 17, 1997 in Hazleton, Iowa.
Anyway there is a website for this home and lists Boas in. It's website is: AHFA.org. It's email is ahfainc@pcsia.com.
Hope this will help you out and if you would happen to have Ruth listed I would appreciate it if you could share.
Stacey

I show a Freeman Boas as well who is my Great-Great Grandfather who married Hattie Cleaver, and I have found Frank C. and Stewart as their children. My Granfather Robert P. is one of the 4 Children that Frank C. and Minnie Schmitt (not sure of the spelling) had. Donald, Frank and Kenneth were their other children. Robert P. had 1 child Dennis P., who is my father. Kenneth had two children Christopher, and John.

It would seem that we would be related. If this is the same Freeman, which it seems it would be based on Hattie, and Stewart.

I would be interested in any other facts you might have.

Boas Family History

Dear Mr Boas

I just found your message of 14 August. My grandfather was a Boas and also of the Jewish faith. His name was George Boas and as far as we know his father was called Herman Boas and his mother's maiden name was Sarah Eisenberg. I am named after her. We know very little about the family, but belive that they came to the United States from Poland. We think that Sarah Eisenberg came over with her father when she was a young girl - probably in the mid 1800s. I know very little about this side of my family's history, and would like to know more. Does this information tie in with any that you have? I hope to hear from you. Yours sincerely, Sarah Dinsmore

To Michael Woolman, do you have any Scotland information? The Boa relations that I have info. on dates back to about 1761 in Scotland his name was Andrew Boa (1767-1829) and his wife, Agnes Smaile (1760-1827) were known to have lived in Roxburghshire, Scotland. He went to Canada sometime between 1815 and 1817; for within this period there is evidence that some of them had settled in the Montreal area. In order to try and help you with some of your questions I will need to know more info. on what you know as there were 9 children born to Andrew and Agnes Boa.
My name is Stewart Thomas Boa I live in Florida and would like to talk to you as the only child of the original Boa's that didn't come to Canada was Peter and if you knew how many Peter's there were, well you don't want to know.

My e-mail address is: boasnake@msn.com I'm looking forword to hearing from you.

Re: Boas Family in Reading, PA area

I got the Social Security App for my great grandfather Earl Freeman Boas (b.1894-d. 1991), his parents are listed as Freeman and Mary (Shalder) Boas. On Ancestry.com I was able to find a Freeman J Boas listed in the Reading City directories for 1888-1890. He lived in a house with John Boas and a Howard J Boas. The address is 137 S 10th Street. This address is also listed on Earl's birth record. Earl's siblings were Grover Cleveland, John, and Mabel. Anna Drake Boas who married Harold, one of Grover's sons, said she thought Mary's last name was Shartle and she had died before her and Harold were married in 1949. I keep running into that Franklin Freeman Boas all the time!! I was raised by my great grandfather Earl so I am trying to find out as much as possibly. He told me once that his family was very poor, they never had any new clothes, they all got 1 toy at Xmas to share, in the summer they never wore shoes, etc. I am thinking about spending a few days in Reading researching soon. Thanks for any help you can offer.
