No, Singleton didn't have a sister named Mary Catherine. There was another family with the C spelling of the Casey/Kasey name in VA at that time. Do you know anything about an Isiah Boatwright.....he was surety for Singleton and Frances T.? Don't happen to have any pix of this Boatwright line, do you? I guess this makes us distant cousins!

The proof is in Logan County KY. On 1 Feb 1828 Frances bought a tract of land from Anna Allen in Logan KY. She also bought a tract of land from Stephen Trabue. She is listed in the 1830 Census in Logan, KY. She died on 30 June 1836 according to court records. Her son Francis W. Boatwright was living with her and filed a will after her death stating that some items to sons John D and Frank and a saddle to Betsey Boatwright her granddaughter that she raised. The estate was to be divided equally between sons Frank, John and Benjamin and daughter Susanna Boatwright Bales and granddaughter Betsey. Dated 12 July 1836. Frank stated that his mother had given him the land for staying on contract with her and managing the farm. On 15 July 1836 the children Ann Boatwright Bradley (wife of Phineas), Marlow P deceased (children elizabeth A, John, James, Mary, Arabella, and Kitty Ann), Major P.,Prior T deceased (children unknown), Littleberry, Lineus B, Powhattan B, Carey H, Benjamin H, Alexander T, John D, Francis W, and Susanna P Bales (wife of Oliver) all filed a court order to stop Francis from selling the land and spending the proceeds from the sale.

These records are available from the Logan County Genealogical Society. Hope this helps.
Gary Shanklin

There is a Frances Boatwright living in Logan in the 1830 census b: 1770-1780. There is a Lenearce in Logan 1830, Pleasant in Robertson TN 1830 and Logan 1840,Major in Todd 1830. Major was married in Logan in 1823. Frances may be his mother widowed and living in Logan from early 1820's. However supposedly Lenearce, Pleasant, Thomas A and Benjamin H were brothers In 1840 Major and Benjamin were in Trigg a few miles away indicating they were close family. Has anyone researched these connections???

Thanks for your reply. I have seen this information but to me it is unsupported. The census do not support Prior being the son of Major Boatwright. The Civil War Pension files list his real name as Milan Pryor Boatwright. Since he lived in Todd and named one of his children Naomi, I think that maybe a hint that he was the son of Benjamin H and Naomi Brockman. Again thanks for the support.

West Kentucky Boatrights

Does anyone have research on the Todd, Logan, Christian Boatrights that they would like to share. I am interested in Milam (based on Civil war pension records instead of Minor as shown in most family trees) Prior Boatwright married to Easter Keeling. He was living in 1860 with Vincent Weathers. I am trying to tie him to the Brockmans and the other two Boatrights living with Durrett Brockman and Oswell Brockman in 1850/1860. durrett was married to Mary Catherine Boatright 1793VA. Durretts son Samuel Burris married Mary F Boatright. Please help me to sort these folks out.

Thanks
Gary Shanklin

??Mamanah Boatright; possibly Anna and link to Charles F Boatright

I am trying to connect my Anna Talley in 1850 Cooper Co, MO to the Charles F Boatright that is living with her and family. She is married to David C Talley and has one child, David E Talley age 2,on this 1850 census living in Boonville, Cooper Co, MO. States that she was born in VA approx 1830 as does Charles F Boatright age 18 approx 1832.This census is recorded the 22nd of August, 1850.

There is another entry for 1850 Cooper Co, MO for D. Talley age 30 TN, wife Maria age 26 TN, and son David age 3 MO. This one is dated Oct 10, 1850. Now Charles F. Boatright is not living with them BUT they are right next door to William E and Louisa Butler who have a daughter named Susan just as Charles F. Boatright's first wife was named.

Another reason to persue this Boatright family is I have found a marriage record on TN on March 14, 1847 Davidson Co, TN for David c Tally to ??Mamanah Boatright. {When the book was scanned, it cut some of her name off}

In 1860 my David C Talley/Tally is back in Davidson Co, Tn married to Eliza age 20 with Edwin age 12, Charles *myline* age 6 or 8, Elizabeth age 5. Granted this all says born in tn but on later census records my Charles states born in MO in 1852. My thoughts are that Anna/Mamanah died in MO possibly in childbirth and Daivd C Talley remarried as he had 2 small children to care for to this Eliza. BUT of course can find no marriage record or proof.

I read on the Boatright site that Charles had written in a letter around 1850 to a half sister that he was in Tn the year before. Could it have been because an unknown sister was living there and he moved with them to Cooper Co, MO because they were both carpenters by trade?

ANY help in tying this Anna, ??Mamanah Boatright and Charles F. Boatright together would be helpful and greatly appreciated.
Judy W

Hi Penny,

I'm confused.... to what mailing list did you refer? The Union Parish list or another?

As far as Powhatan's son John Boatright... Here is what we know of him:

Born about 1818 in what was then Missouri Territory, but became Arkansaw Territory in 1819. Powhatan lived in what is now northern Arkansas, in Lawrence County. John married about 1846 to Drucilla Christy. They had three children to survive to adulthood. John enlisted on 12 March 1862 in Company A, 6th Regiment Louisiana Infantry, and was sent to Virginia to join his unit already in the field. It appears that he became ill either enroute to Virginia or immediately upon reaching Richmond. He died in a hospital there on 24 April 1862. I have never managed to locate where he was buried.

Do not know when John's wife died, but it was between 1860-1870. We also do not know the name of John's mother with any certainty. Powhatan married Lucy Utley in 1815, but she publicly charged him with abandonment in 1816. So far, it is unclear whether they reconciled or if Powhatan merely left Lucy and remarried once he arrived in Arkansas.

Powhatan's youngest daughter, Mary, married to William Harrison Mears. After her death in 1879, Mears moved his children to Little River County AR. Do you have any resources that you could check there?

Thanks,

Tim

Yes, I do believe we are related! I am originally from Ohio. I grew up in Parkman, OH. My mother was born and raised in Turnerville, GA. I am pretty sure she had cousins etc. in the Trumbull county/Ashtabula area. My brother lives in Bristolville, OH and I think he is sometimes in contact with one of the Boatrights in the Warren area, I think. My maiden name is Larmi. I remember reading some papers from my mother's Aunt Cora and she mentioned the Apperson's as well. I would love to discuss this further if possible. You can email me at cdejacimo@yahoo.com. I would love to hear from you.

Just found your post from 2010. My mother's grandfather was Devereau Jarrett Boatwright and grandmother was Luvena Apperson of Oconee, South Carolina. I am just beginning to search the family history. My grandmother's name was Lula Boatwright. She married Ulrich Peter Jennings. She was one of 10 children. Two of her siblings, Cora and Albert, died in Ohio. There are so many different spellings of Boatwright listed, making this search difficult, but I think we could be related. We live in Warren, Ohio. My mother just celebrated her 92nd birthday! Good genes!!

I'm looking for more information about my great grandparents. Sara Frances Nichols who married William Harold Boatright son of Washington Leander. I just want to know more. They got divorced. I want to know more if anyone has any information. Thanks and God bless =)
