My family resides in Oregon. I live in Sacramento. Looking for Information on Boatwrights in Oregon and also from Iowa. My dad, Joe, is from Iowa originally, now lives in Oregon. His only brother lived in New Jersey (Arnold Casey Boatwright). Any information would be great, as I am just getting started.

Boatwrights of Norfolk/Alderney

Hi,

I'm trying to trace my grandfather's family. His mother Dorothy Ann Boatwright was born in Hackney, London in 1890. She apparently had 2 sisters but i can find no details. My mother thinks they were called Mabel and Gladys. Her parents were William (born c. 1864 in Alderney) and Ann Eliza (maiden name Back, born c. 1863 in Alnwick, Northumberland).

I can't seem to find any record of the Boatwright line any further back. No record of any siblings of either Dorothy or William or William's parents

I hope someone might be able to help.

I have Choctaw Nation/Indian Territory Book which lists info. on TJ Boatright and wife Alice ALBERTS. They were marr. 13 Aug. 1893 in Savannah, I.T. Alice is the dau. of Granville and Mary J. Albert. T.J. Boatright is the son of Elias Boatwright and Ruthie Stanton (Mosby) Boatwright. P. 171 of Choctaw Records.

I research the Stanton Line and I'd like to know if Ruthie Stanton was the daughter of Allan Stanton & Susan Lyle?? Is she possibly related to William M. Stanton who married Sarah Ann (Liza) Kirk. William was part Choctaw but Sarah Ann was not. Please write me. thanks marty

I am searching for infomartion about the parents of James B.Boatwright and his wife Eliza Cook Boatwright. James B. Boatwright was born in Arkansas in November, 1849. His parents may have been born in Kentucky. Eliza Cook was born in 1852 in Alabama or Mississippi. Census records give conflicting information about where she was born. In 1880 they were living in Wood County, Texas. In 1900 they were living in Indian Territory (Oklahoma) in what became Grady County. Their daughter, Ada (Adelaide), born about 1889, married Robert S. Woodward who was born in Texas in about 1886. I am also seeking information about the Woodward family. James and Eliza also had a son named James Pinckney Boatwright so Pinkney may also be a family name. Any information related to these families will be greatly appreciated. Eric Baker

I just found out that Boatwright was the maiden name of one of my "tree" members. So I am very new to this name. I have a Rhoda Ann Boatwright (9-9-1861) her father was Nathaniel Boatwright (1834, Elbert GA), then Daniel Boatwright (Bedford, VA), then William Boatwright (1744, Cumberland VA).

I am researching a Charles Boatwright who would likely have been born between 1850 and 1870. He was married to Sally Williams, and they lived in the Alabama/Georgia/Florida area. I believe I have a couple of photographs of him, one a tintype. My grandmother referred to him as "Uncle" and "Uncle Charley". It appears to me that he was married to my Great Great Grandmother Harriet Williams' sister, Sally Williams. Sally had two other sisters besides Harriet, Mary Elizabeth and Nancy, and one brother, Stephen D. Williams.

Any information on any of these individuals would be appreciated.

THE SOUTH CAROLINA CADETS AT WEST POINT.
The Columbia South Carolinian of November 17, publishes the following defiance:
West Point, November 9, 1860.

Mr. Editor: Sir—From what we have seen and heard, South Carolina will, undoubtedly, at an early period, redeem her assertions, take her destinies in her own hands, and proceed at once to organize for herself a new and separate government, (a government of which our beloved Calhoun would approve, were he with us at this time,) one in which the benefits are equally distributed to all.

Now we, her sons and representatives at the United States Military Academy at West Point, are eager to manifest our devotion and affection to her and her present cause, so will we, simultaneous with her withdrawal, be found under the folds of her banner, fighting for liberty or equality.

Though the reception of a diploma here at the National Academy is certainly to be desired by all of us, yet we cannot so stifle our convictions of duty as to serve the remainder of our time here under such a man as Mr. Lincoln as Commander-in-Chief, and be subject at all times to the orders of a government, the administration of which must be necessarily unfriendly to a commonwealth which has, so far, preserved a spotless record, and of which we are justly proud.

We hereby swear to be true to her lone star in the present path of rectitude, and if, by chance, she goes astray, we will be with her still. All we desire is a field for making ourselves useful.

Not Guilty.

Captain L., yet one of the worthiest and most respected citizens of a Southern city, was for many years an Alderman thereof. During one year when he was senior Alderman, and consequently President of its Hustings Court, a woman,one Mary Jane BOATRIGHT, was brought before the Court to be tried for petty larceny. The proof was positive; but the punishment was stripes, and the Court could not for a moment think of inflicting this degrading as well as painful punishment upon a woman—least of all Captain L., whose benevolence was equaled only by his gallantry. evertheless, the proof was conclusive, and the Court was in a quandary; they couldn't say she was not guilty, and they would not say she was. In this crisis it devolved upon the Captain to extricate the Court from their difficulty, and pronounce sentence, or decision rather, which he did in these words:

“Mary Jane BOATRIGHT, stand up. Prisoner, you appear before us charged with a crime, (small as was the value of the article charged as stolen,) involving moral considerations of the gravest nature. You have had a fair and impartial trial, with all the aid that counsel learned in the law and officers prompt and obliging could give; and after hearing the evidence, and all that counsel could urge in your favor, the Court is compelled to believe that you did steal the lamp in question. But, prisoner, inasmuch as there is no shadow of proof that you ever did the like before, and if possible, still less, that you will ever do the like again, we pronounce you not guilty. Go in peace, and sin no more.”

This judgment stands to this day upon the record books of our Court, the contradictions reconciled by a pen being drawn through the first clause, but the whole still very legible.

I'm looking for information on my GG Grandmother, Mary Ann BOATWRIGHT.

She was the daughter of John Boatwright, I'm not aware of any brothers or sisters. She married James JOHNSON in 1852 in Islington, London.

As far as I know they had 1 son, John James born 1861 in London.

I'd love to hear from anyone who is able to give me any more information on the family.

Looking for his parents. Young was born in Arkansas in 1878. On the 1900 census for Washington, Sevier, Arkansas he is listed with Hattie, wife. Japh? and Nannie Boatwright are listed with son Lud and daughter Ollie; also sister in law, Mary M. Graves. On the 1880 census in Sevier County, Arkansas, J? and Nancy Adline Boatright are listed with Lud (listed as Fred), Flarace A. F. (female), Mary Alen, Richard, Young, and Olif M.(female). On the 1910 census in Center Point, Howard, Arkansas Lud widowed(listed as Lind) is head of house, with brother Young H., sister Ollie K, nephew Doyle, dau. Tara (Tava), son Meggs, and dau. Alice; also uncle Paul N. Grever(Graves).
Are Tava, Meggs and Alice Lud's children? Doyle only one who belongs to Young?

I've only been researching for a few years and discovered my father's cousin was Curtis Boatwright, Youngstown Ohio. I believe Curtis' father was John Sr and his grandfather was Hercules. I thought the family was from Arkansas, but it appears Hercules was with his family in Tennesse during the 1870 & 1880 census. My father's name was James Austin and his mother was a daughter of Hercules. There seems to be some confusion on her given name and the spelling. It started with Laura. They also had a sister named Josephine. Hercules was about 33 in 1880.

Mr. Boatwright was employed by Youngstown Steel Door for 37 years, retiring in 1984 as a welder.
His wife, the former Ethel Brooks, whom he married March 4, 1961, departed this life March 23, 1999.
A WWII veteran, he also was a member of the Tuskegee Air Corp and Army Band in Tuskegee, Ala.
Mr. Boatwright was an area artist, having art shows at the Butler Art Institute for many years.
He leaves a son, LeRoy Cospy of Youngstown; a daughter, with whom he lived, Shdena Boatwright of Youngstown; a niece, Harriet Clay of Youngstown; a nephew, Lawrence Boatwright of Youngstown; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of great nieces and nephews.

I'm looking for information on Martin Jordan Boatwright and son Elmore.Martin was married to Elizabeth Reese in Chesterfield,S.C..Martin's father was Daniel Boatwright born 1787 Chesterfield.There were sons: A.D.(Daniel) born 1853, Elmore born 1850, George Washington ?? Elmore was my great grandfather who married Mary Lamanda Padgett in Florida. Their children: Daniel, Easter A., Mary, Lynda L., Polly, Lillien and Elmore. They lived in Brevard County,Ft.Drum,Florida 1870-1920. Elmore's bother Daniel married Vandalia Ella Willis Padgett, widow of James T.Padgett. Easter(1883) was my grandmother ,married James Mack Rogers 1900. They had 11 children.My mother Gladys Rogers Garrett,the youngest and last one living. I have no dates on Martin,Elizabeth's birth,marriage,when they left S.C..Did they go to Georgia from there? Elmore was suppose to have been born in Ga..Martin married 2nd wife ,Sevility Rebecca Overstreet 1857 in Burke County,Ga.When did they come to Florida and what part? Martin & Sevility had four children and they died in Pasco County,Fl.

I am looking for information on William D. Boatwright and his wife Carlettie. I have found that William is listed on the 1880 census as living in Sale City, Colquitt County, GA with his mother, Sarah Boatwright, as head of household. I also have him on a 1910 Census living with Carlettie, his wife and children, Mattie Jean, James H., Grace, Richard R., and Minnie Mae. William and Carlettie are my gr, gr, grandparents. I do not know Carlettie maiden name. And so far, I have not found out what William's father's name is. I would appreciate any help.

I am looking for information on the Parents/siblings etc. of William D. Boatwright. I would also like to know if anyone knows what Carlettie's maiden name was or anything else about her. William was found on the 1920 Census in Mitchell County, GA. Other members of the family listed in the Census were his wife, Carlettie age 50, daughter, Mattie Jean Musgrove age 23 and her son James William (Billy) Musgrove age 2, son, James H. age 21, daughter, Grace age 19, son, Richard R. age 15 and another daughter, Minnie Mae age 13. Mattie Jean married Lucious Alonzo (aka Lon or Lonnie) McCook that same year. Grace married George McCook, which was Lucious' brother. and Minnie Mae, married a Mr. Hart. Am continuing search for information on my Great Grandparents Joseph Benjamin Boatwright and Dicey Elizabeth Taylor. Both born in FL,he about 1866 and she about 1875. Her parents were Josiah Levi Taylor(son of Griffen Taylor and Elizabeth Bennett)and Allie Tobitha Larimore(daughter of John Larimore and Mary E.Page).I have very little information on Joseph.He died before 1900.My grandfather Walter Levi Boatwright was 18 monthes old when his father died. Joseph's stepfather may have been William Worthington and mother Eliza(1870 Calhoun Co.Census)with sister Mary.This is unconfirmed. Dicy's siblings were Mary, Joanna and Jonathon Daniel Taylor. Does anyone have further info. about the family story that the real name is NOT Boatwright but Allan? Supposedly they ended up on the wrong side of the War of the Roses in England, fled to Wales with a royal death decree on their heads, and two brothers eventually came to the New World. When asked what their name was, they always replied "I paddle my boat right", but made sure to tell their children the real name was Allan (Allen, Alan).

Family lore says (a) they were Native American, possibly Cherokee; (b) at age 13 Mattie climbed out a window and ran off with PARSLEY, she had a brother named Will who came to visit her ONE time, this is the only known contact with her family after she left home (apparently they never forgave her). (c) One of Mattie's sisters married PARSLEY's only brother. (d) J.S. BOATWRIGHT was Indian agent for the district of Wagner, Oklahoma, Indian Territory for a number of years.

"John Matthew Boatwright, 77, of Aiken entered into rest Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Dr. George Howle and Samuel K. Marcengill officiating. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Boatwright was born April 17, 1928 in Ridge Spring, the son of the late Louie Boatwright and Rhina Rowe Boatwright. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Carolina Squares, and retired from DuPont SRP.
Surviving are his wife Doris Hurt Boatwright and several nieces and nephews.

He had at least 2 sisters and several brothers. His sisters visited the child one time when she was young.

His father went to prison for killing a man.

I've no idea how to look for this information.
I haven't been able to find anything in census records that match up. I have so little to go on.

I am looking for cousins that live in Florida. I have a picture of my Dad with a man named Clyde Boatwright taken about 1924 - 1926, that he said was his cousin. I have found an Alford Waltis GORE that married a Mattie Mae BOATWRIGHT. Not sure if this is Clyde's parent's or not. Dad's Mom was Hattie Jane GORE, she married first "?" BEACHARD, and they had Dad and Uncle Eddy. Then she married THORNTON, when Dad was about 5 years old. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Need information on Joe Ben Boatwright and family. He was my paternal Great Grandfather married Elizabeth Taylor about 1894. They had two children, Mary and Walter Levi who was my Grandfather. Walter was born 09/15/1898 and Joe Ben died when his son was about two years old. My Great Grandmother then married Jonathon Gaff and had 5 sons Thomas, William, Joseph, Azor, and Monroe. Her mother was Allie Tobitha Taylor who died when Elizabeth was 9 years old. Fathers name may have been Dan. She had a sister Mary, a sister Sophonie, and a brother Daniel.

I think this couple might have gone to Monroe Co. TN per marriage record there [1838, Susan MURPHY to Isaac WOOD]. A Susan MURPHY was a member of the Pond Creek Baptist Church in 1835 and was dismissed from the church 1840 as "Susan WOOD, late Murfee."

Any information in this regard or addresses of any contacts who you feel might be knowledgeable about these people will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Isaac WOOD b c1815 TN married c1830s to Susannah [BOATRIGHT?]

The probable son of this Isaac WOOD b c1815, Joseph T. C. WOOD b c1848, was an affiant in the military pension application papers of my Thomas L. MURPHY b1826 and had land dealings with Thomas L. MURPHY 1875 Polk Co. MO.

Does anyone have evidence of the parents of any of these parties [Susan BOATWRIGHT m1826 or Susannah BOATRIGHT]??
