John P. Bobbitt b. 1789 Warren Co. NC

I am descended from John P. Bobbitt, b. 1789 in Warren Co. NC. He moved to Orange County Indiana and is in the 1850 census there, with wife Nancy. There are many versions of his information on the trees as given on Ancestry, Rootsweb, etc. Some show his death as Orange County Indiana, which seems likely. Many show his death as Muhlenberg Co. Kentucky, which seems odd. Does anyone have incontrovertible proof of his actual place of death, and, hopefully, place of burial? I will appreciate very much any help in clearing up this puzzle. The date of his death is usually given as 1866, by the way.

Thanks.

Jane Wells Sarles

Two William Bobbitt Immigrants From England
The first William Bobbitt (spelling was Will. Bobbett) October 27, 1673 Land Grant in Charles City County, Virginia. "This is William Bobbett chr 12 Aug 1647 Saint Mary, Woodbridge,Suffolk, England." -- Marsha Berry

The second William Bobbitt (spelled Wm Bobett) indentured April 8, 1674 to Thomas Batts in Henrico County, Virginia.
"This indentured William Bobett arrived in Henrico County, Virginia much after 8 April 1674 to work off his debt for 3 to 7 years." -- Marsha Berry

I have received several emails during the past several years from people who can not complete their family trees back to their immigrant ancestor. They say their tree begins to fall apart with a great great grandfather (or another ancestor)... that a census report has the head of household listed correctly but the wife and/or children are not.

The finding of this second William Bobbitt may help solve some of our family's research problems. Much more research is needed.

All of us can help further Bobbitt Family research by having a DNA test and then contacting others who have the same results. The larger the base of information, the better we can understand and know our genealogy.

Check out the following link for up to date information...
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=grosscu...
Bobbitt Funeral Home Family in San Bernardino, CA

In 1911 George M. Stephens opened Stephens & Sons as an independently owned Funeral Home. In 1926 James D. Bobbitt (great, great grandfather to our current President) went into business with Stephens & Sons, forming Stephens & Bobbitt.

Stephens & Bobbitt built a new funeral home for their business in 1928 on the west side of North F Street just below Baseline Road. The Stephens purchased the property from George N .Voss, an established local developer/contractor who designed and built the Spanish Colonial Revival style mortuary.

The public opening of the new mortuary was on Sunday, October 14, 1928. The event spurred an almost entire page of articles and illustrations in the San Bernardino Daily Sun newspaper. As stated in the article: "The modern work of a funeral director is to comfort as well as to bury and with these ends in view George M. Stephens and J.D. Bobbitt...have embodied in their new building an atmosphere of home rather than an office or business building.

The building reflected all the conveniences associated with a new funeral home during the first quarter of the twentieth century. It featured a second floor apartment for the undertaker's family, slumber rooms, offices, casket display room and chapel.

George Stephens died in August 1935, but his wife Kathryn continued as owner of the mortuary that carried the family name. In 1937, James and Lulu Bobbitt bought half interest. By 1964, the Bobbitt family had full ownership of the business and renamed it Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, dropping the long time reference to George Stephens.

Funeral Home Information:
1299 E Highland Avenue
San Bernardino, CA 92404

(909) 882-3761
I was looking through the Southeast Missourian, New Madrid, Co. Mo. newspaper dated Thursday, 12 April 1900 and read, 'Bud Killion of Lake County, Tn. has rented the Carter Farm and is farming on a large scale.' It was actually Como that I was searching.

Something else I found intersting was, the Southeast Missourian, New Madrid Co., Mo dated 14 April 1898 says, "Hayward Happenings", John Carter died last Friday at the residence of Susan Barnes of congestion."

jo.carter.baker@gmail.com

I am just beginning the search for my fathers father (aka my grandfather). I understand he passed away in the late 70's early 80's in La. Perry Bobbitt, once married to Vera Kilgore had three children (2 currently deceased). After that marriage failed her remarried a lady by the name of Eugenia and they had one daughter. She may still be living... no idea on a name. I believe Eugenia died in the Denton, TX area. I would appreciate any help. THANKS
I have wondered what connection there was with that family since they only had boys that I'm aware of.
After the Civil War Dicey and, I think, two of her sons went to Iowa and then on to Missouri. Dicey lived to be about 100 yrs. old.

This will seem like an odd request, but does anyone know of any family secrets or bad things we have done? My great-great-grandmother refused to talk about the Bobbitts, which in retrospect doesn't make much sense, since she was married to a descendent of one. Anyway, is anyone aware of the "big" secret or of something that would keep someone quiet like that? This refers to the Bobbitts in Virginia, the Grayson County, Carroll County, and nearby counties.

Bobbitts in East Texas

I've been searching for the branch that ties me into the family tree. I was born Ryan Henry Bobbit in Sept. 1978 in Mother Frances Hospital, Tyler, Tx. My father is James Henry Bobbitt, born in April 1952. I'm not sure where he was born, but I suspect Texas. His father was Henry Bobbitt, unknown birthdate, died in the late 70's early 80's (after I was born, I have no real memory of him). He died from TB. My grandmother is Sadie Bobbitt, one of two Sadie Bobbitts in the Gallatin, TX area if what I'm told is correct.
I have 3 or 4 uncles and 3 aunts, but I've been out of touch with them for some years now. I saw them briefly in '99, but had not spoken to any for the previous 13 years.
If you know my family or myself, and can help me trace our lineage past my grandfather, please reply! Thanks!

I am looking for information about my ggg grandmother, Eliza Ann Bobbit.

Hello Folks,

We've added an upload feature to http://www.thegenealogists.com

If you have any digitized old family pictures, you might want to visit us and upload a couple photos. You will also be able to write a good description about each photo you upload. Make sure you mention your name as the uploader. The photos will be available for your friends and family to see.
The address is http://www.thegenealogists.com/cgi-bin/CSUpload/CSUpload.cgi

"The Bobbitt Family In America" by John W. Bobbitt is also online for your reading and research pleasures. The address is http://www.thegenealogists.com/bobbittbookmed.htm
Joseph Rosser Bobbitt III has uploaded several pages of the book in .PDF format. These are the pages that include his family line. This format is great for printing. Rosser has also uploaded some old family pictures you might be interested in seeing at the above address.

Has anyone found any long lost relatives lately? Glad to see that Josh is back. I hope he puts his database online. I found my family link on his database two or three years ago. Until then, I was trying to climb over the brick wall... so to speak.

Keith
Susan Bobbitt-Kentucky

I'm looking for information about my great grandmother Susan Bobbitt, who apparently was the youngest daughter of William and Mary Bobbitt. I believe that she was born in 1846 and I know that she died in 1885 soon after my grandfather was born. She was a Civil War widow with one child when she married her second husband, Gabriel Kuebler, my great grandfather, in Livingston Country, Kentucky, which is on the Illinois border. Is anyone out there a descendant of another child of William and Mary?

The reproduction of "The Bobbitt Family In America" by John W. Bobbitt is coming along nicely. The first sample will be finished in about two weeks. All 870+ pages look like the original book. The hard bound cover will be a medium dark blue, simulated leather, with gold lettering. It really looks sharp.

We are hoping the book will be ready for distribution by the end of November.

I am trying to locate a Miss Bobbitt that was living in Holly Springs, Ms. in 1875. An "Album" was given to her by a Willie that apparently was very fond of her. I have no idea what her first name was or what Willie's last name was. Also am seeking information on Robert Bobbitt who reportedly tried to kill Abner Jones, Jr. but killed himself in Holly Springs. This incident was written up in the "Album". Does anyone know anything about either?

I know that Jacueline had/has Grandparents on her mothers side named Charles & Bertie Bobbitt.

From what I can tell Jacquline could have married in 2002 to a James Robert Kimbrough II

Any and all information that anyone has please email me at
IM4THELORDTOO@MSN.COM

Stephen W. BOBBITT, b). 15 Jul 1843. m. Isabelle J. VANLANDINHAM at Howard County, MO on 14 Sep 1870. Sometime in 1890 Stephen was waylaid by a highwayman, robbed, shot and killed,in Howard County, MO. His tragic death left a widow and four young children. I am attempting to ascertain if anyone might have a book, article or whatever that gives the accounts of that fateful event.
Missing links

In looking over the Bobbitt book written by John W. Bobbitt I noticed that my family wasn't listed. For anyone doing research on the William Bobbitt (1649) from Wales; here are some missing relatives. My great, great grandfather was William I. Bobbitt married to Ophelia Thompson. His father was Milton Bobbitt (1807-1852) and his mother was Elizabeth Davis. He was a 2nd Lt in Kentucky Militia in the Civil War. William and Ophelia Bobbitt had three children-William T., Betha O., and Elizabeth R.. William T. Bobbitt was my great grandfather. He was born 2/11 1868 and died 12/11 1911. He married Mary Eleanor Murphy. They had ten children-John Arthur (my grandfather), Howard, Ophelia,Elsie, Mary Virginia, Isabelle, Charlotte, Irvin, Earl, and Eleanor. John Arthur married Nettie Ann LaVear June 3, 1919 in St. Louis, MO. They had 2 children-Isabelle (my mother), and Irvin. Also, living with them was Nettie daughter from a first marriage-Irene. Isabelle Bobbitt married James N. Brice August 10, 1941 in St. Louis, MO. They had three children-James, Pat, and Shirley (Me). This was just a brief description of my family. I have very detail information on all of these. If anyone is interested.
