Trying to find out if my GG Grandmother Emma Bobbitt (b. May 1881, d. Jan 1951)is one of the 9 children of James and Malinda. In the 1900 Census, it says that they had 9 children and all 9 were living. 7 of the children were living with them at the time. The only thing that I really have to go on to link my Emma to James and Malinda is that in that same census, Emma and her husband James Allen were living very close to them. James and Emma Allen are on page 2, while James and Malinda Bobbitt are on page 4. Bobbitt wasn't exactly a very common name. Its just speculation, which is why I'm looking for something a little more concrete. Can anyone confirm or deny that Emma is one of the 2 missing children. That missing 1890 census is the bane of my genealogy research.

I have sent out inquiries to old email addresses but all have came back, but I am looking for a Bobbitt descendent who has a certain document. Through a fellow genealogist who had contact around 2000 with a Marilyn Brown and a Linda Crews who were researching the Bobbitt/Hill line, one of them said they knew or had talked to another descendent of John & Parmelia Bobbit who had either a christening document for Parmelia or one of her children, that showed that Anne Overton was the mother of Parmelia. The reason I am searching for a copy of this document is this seems to be the only link that shows or leads to the fact that the wife of James Hill was actually Anne Overton. If anyone out there knows who this person is could they please contact me by email at tennacjim@hotmail.com

After moving from North Carolina to Alabama to Tennessee John P.(?Person) Bobbitt finally settled in Orange County, Indiana. Check this link to Marvin Beatty's Genealogy Report on Rootsweb

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&...

Marvin was the authority on the Bobbitt and other families in Orange County, Indiana. Our family suffered a great loss when he passed away.

Henry Bobbitt, one of John's sons, moved to Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. He raised his family there and is buried there. However, no proof has been found of John P. Bobbitt ever moving to Muhlenberg County. Another link to Marvin's work...

http://www.keithbobbitt.com/pafmarvinbeatty/pafg05.htm#57

If we follow the strick rules of genealogy, then more research should be done to find definite proof of John P. Bobbitt's resting place. However, John's wife is buried in Orange County and some of his children are buried there and in neighboring counties. Census reports place him in the county near the time of his death.

Personally, I have no reasons to doubt that he is buried somewhere in Orange County, Indiana. A good researcher would also check records in Crawford County, Washington County, possibly Dubois County, and other counties where his sons or daughters are buried.

Two William Bobbitt Immigrants From England
The first William Bobbitt (spelling was Will. Bobbett) October 27, 1673 Land Grant in Charles City County, Virginia. "This is William Bobbett chr 12 Aug 1647 Saint Mary, Woodbridge,Suffolk, England." -- Marsha Berry

The second William Bobbitt (spelled Wm Bobett) indentured April 8, 1674 to Thomas Batts in Henrico County, Virginia.
"This indentured William Bobett arrived in Henrico County, Virginia much after 8 April 1674 to work off his debt for 3 to 7 years." -- Marsha Berry

I have received several emails during the past several years from people who can not complete their family trees back to their immigrant ancestor. They say their tree begins to fall apart with a great great grandfather (or another ancestor)... that a census report has the head of household listed correctly but the wife and/or children are not.

The finding of this second William Bobbitt may help solve some of our family's research problems. Much more research is needed.

All of us can help further Bobbitt Family research by having a DNA test and then contacting others who have the same results. The larger the base of information, the better we can understand and know our genealogy.

Check out the following link for up to date information...
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=grosscu...
John P. Bobbitt b. 1789 Warren Co. NC

I am descended from John P. Bobbitt, b. 1789 in Warren Co. NC. He moved to Orange County Indiana and is in the 1850 census there, with wife Nancy. There are many versions of his information on the trees as given on Ancestry, Rootsweb, etc. Some show his death as Orange County Indiana, which seems likely. Many show his death as Muhlenberg Co. Kentucky, which seems odd. Does anyone have incontrovertible proof of his actual place of death, and, hopefully, place of burial? I will appreciate very much any help in clearing up this puzzle. The date of his death is usually given as 1866, by the way.

Thanks.

Jane Wells Sarles

Bobbitt Funeral Home Family in San Bernardino, CA

In 1911 George M. Stephens opened Stephens & Sons as an independently owned Funeral Home. In 1926 James D. Bobbitt (great, great grandfather to our current President) went into business with Stephens & Sons, forming Stephens & Bobbitt.

Stephens & Bobbitt built a new funeral home for their business in 1928 on the west side of North F Street just below Baseline Road. The Stephens purchased the property from George N .Voss, an established local developer/contractor who designed and built the Spanish Colonial Revival style mortuary.

The public opening of the new mortuary was on Sunday, October 14, 1928. The event spurred an almost entire page of articles and illustrations in the San Bernardino Daily Sun newspaper. As stated in the article: "The modern work of a funeral director is to comfort as well as to bury and with these ends in view George M. Stephens and J.D. Bobbitt...have embodied in their new building an atmosphere of home rather than an office or business building.

The building reflected all the conveniences associated with a new funeral home during the first quarter of the twentieth century. It featured a second floor apartment for the undertaker's family, slumber rooms, offices, casket display room and chapel.

George Stephens died in August 1935, but his wife Kathryn continued as owner of the mortuary that carried the family name. In 1937, James and Lulu Bobbitt bought half interest. By 1964, the Bobbitt family had full ownership of the business and renamed it Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, dropping the long time reference to George Stephens.

Funeral Home Information:
1299 E Highland Avenue
San Bernardino, CA 92404

(909) 882-3761
My line is (James) Madison Hill (B:1776) son of William Hill (B:1742) both of Amherst. James Hill/Overton was born (ca:1758) in Amherst. I believe that these two men were very closely related. Now, we have established the Y-chromosomal DSNA pattern for my line. If you know of any living MALE descendant in your line who has the Hill Surname who is willing to submit DNA for analysis, we can PROVE or DISPROVE such a relationship. I am willing to sponsor anaylisis. Any interest? Any Candidates?
(The Amherst County Will Book lists the sons and daughters of James Hill/Overton.)
My John Henry Pratt's children would have been born in the 1880's. Wrong line I guess. Thank you anyways. Dawn
