Beth,

How are you doing, I believe that I might be of this line. I have little to known contact with any Bockenkamps except immediate family.

My Grandfather was Richard Edward Bockenkamp, born at the turn of the century. I believe he was born in South Saint Louis. Grandfather was married to March Lee, not sure of the date.

Also I believe that we are related to the Bockenkamps in Southern Missour, while Cape is in this area, I believe that is a different county that what I have heard in the past.
I one time met a Brittany Bockenkamp. (I believe that was her name as it was over 20 years ago) Some where a Missouri State Representative was a Bockenkamp and he was a cousin of my Fathers. My father was Richard Lee Bockenkamp born in South STL, around 1930.

Message for Hans Bockenkamp:

My family is the decendent of Peter George Frederick Bockenkamp believed to come from Hamberg. We do not know who his parents are. He stowed away on a ship in the 1800s. His uncle is Julius Bockenkamp. Any information you can provide is appreciated.

Thanks,
Linda Bockenkamp
(Missouri)

Not sure if you are still looking; but check out the Bockenkamp/Strong messages. If my information is correct, that would be your ancestry -back to Fred and Caroline Stiney.

I'm not sure how Fred is related to Julius, but you can bet the relationship exists.

Beth

Beth,

Yes, that is correct. My grandmother is Lena Gay Province and my grandfather is Charles Lee Bockenkamp. I'm very pleased to hear more about my family and their roots.
David,

I have your grandma as Lena Gay Provine. Is my information correct? Anyway, I have Charles Lee as the s/o Andrew William Bockenkamp (1914-1938) and Alberta Blanch Sullivan; Andrew is the s/o Carl Herman Bockenkamp (1888-1963) and Fannie Mae Strong (1895-1985); Carl is the s/o Fred Bockenkamp and Sophia Caroline Stiney.

I'm not sure how Fred is related to us either; I have that he was bon in 1854 in Germany. I suspect he is the nephew of Julius Bockenkamp who was born c1822 in Germany and immigrated to Texas c1848. Julius and family then moved to Missouri just before/at the start of the Civil War. Several of his descendents are still in Missouri also.

Would be very much interested in sharing information. My email is bethpainter@yahoo.com

Welcome aboard.

Beth

I'm not too sure if/how I'm related to you people here, but I did a search for my last name, Bockenkamp, and came up with this board. I thought it was pretty neat, so I checked it out. The furthest I know as far as how back I go is my grandparents, Lena Gay and Charles Lee Bockenkamp. I believe my grandmother has traced us further back, but I'm not sure. The majority of them are located in Missouri.

Hans,

Thanks for writing. It would be interesting to see if there is a connection. I haven't had any luck finding the ship Julius came to America on; so I can't go backwards on his ancestry.

He married at least a year after his arrival, so I'm not sure if the in-laws were connected in the old country. He married Wilhemine Don(n)erberg. I'm not sure of her ancestry.

Thanks
Beth
My family tree goes back to 1648 and we all came from the Watzum area.
Apparently there is a Julius Bockenkamp (1850) from this area also in this country.
Any connection ?

sincerely

Hans Bockenkamp
Hello,

My name is Hans Bockenkamp and I came to California about 100 years later than your Julius Bockenkamp, but also from the same town, Braunschweig. My family tree goes back to 1648 and it shows several Julius Bockenkamps, but it does not indicate any Julius that left for America.

Is there a link? Please get back to me, for there are no Bockenkamps left in the State of Lower Saxony. we are it here in California.

Sincerely

Hans Bockenkamp

Ruth,

I'm really not sure exactly where Julius came from. I haven't found him on the ship's manifest. I haven't personally seen his naturalization records.

Family lore states he came aboard the Bark Suwa, which normally departed from Bremerhaven, so that's no help. Family lore also states that he and his father-in-law "worked" their passage, but jumped ship in Galveston, Texas.

I also have a reference to Niedersachsen, Germany but I'm not sure where I got that information.

Thanks
Beth

Hermann m. again and had five more children.

Herman is one of eight children born to Julius and Wilhelmine Donnerberg.
