I've read a lot of the info you gave to Andrew Bockhorst on the message board at Ancestry.com. I believe that my line of Bockhorsts are related to yours in some distant fashion, but I have not been able to find the link. My great(5) grandfather was Johann Heinrich Bockhorst, born about 7/4/1798 and came to this country in 1841 from Branishe, Hanover, Germany. He came to this country with his children Johann Rudolph, Margaretha Charlotte, and Casper Heinrich. The children were 15, 13, and 11 when they arrived. I cannot find any info on his wife, so I assume she did not make the trip (dead?). If you can be of any assistance to me I'd apprecate hearing from you.

Bob Bockhorst

Hello to all of you Bockhorst family researchers. I'm a bit late to this party but I'm responding to a message that has me excited.

I have been trying for years to link my Hedemann family (who immigrated from Oldenberg area ~1834 to Washington County, IL to Dedrich Hedemann, whose daughters Mary married a John Bockhorst and Emma married a Henry Bockhorst. I figure the link will be found back in Germany somewhere.

Up until now I had no way or clues to trace the Warren County MO Hedemanns back to Germany, and so was at a dead end. Not only does Grace's original message hopefully provide this lead, but it also mentions the Massman family name, whom I also have in my family tree. (I have a Wm. Massman born in 1825 in Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany whose decendants intertwine with my Hedemann, Borrenpohl, and Dankmeyer roots in Washington Co IL.)

I just know (OK, it's still just a theory, but my heart tells me it's true) that I will be able to someday solve this puzzle and link our families together. Now I have to go back and re-read all of the messages in this thread for more clues.

If any of you are still out there doing research on any of the family names mentioned in this thread, please let me know.

Happy hunting, everybody!

-Phil Hedemann

My grandfather, John Henry Bockhorst, owned a farm in Wright City in the 30's and 40's. Wife was Josephine Stuve Bockhorst and son was John Raymond Bockhorst. Their main residence was in St. Louis County, MO. Walter Bockhorst would have been a nephew to John & Josephine. In our family, Walter's mother was Lulu, sister to John Henry.

My g-grandfather's name was Johann Heinrich born in 1818. He was married to Bernadina Grote. I know of three sons: Heinrich, my grandfather, Theodore and Joseph. All settled in Cincinnati. Any possibility of a relationship? I have been unable to find a connection in Germany. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, Cousin Diane. Pleased to meet you. I met your mother when I was a little girl and visited my aunt (your grandmother) Segie. I would love to share information with you. First, I will give you a few bits and pieces that come to my mind.
My grandfather was Florence John Bockhorst. I presently live in his home in High Hill, Missouri. Your grandmother lived here, at one time, as her father managed a butcher shop that was about fifty feet outside my window. I am typing this to you in the dining room where the family shared their meals on special occassions.
His father was John Florence Bockhorst and I have no information about him other than the fact that he remarried when my grandfather (Florence) was 10 to a woman named Lena Lindhorst. Florence would later name one of his daughters after her (my aunt, your great aunt Lena).
Florence married Louise Feuhring, as you probably already know. I have tons of photos of the entire family. My mother, Pearl, was the youngest of all of their nine children.
Pearl married Virgil Kleeschulte and they had me and my eleven brothers and sisters. She passed away in the same room in which she was born, in this house, on 19 November 1995.
That is a real quick recap. I hope you can do the same for me. My email address is jbushart@npwt.net. Drop me a line.

My mother was Pearl Bockhorst, daughter of Florence John Bockhorst, son of John Florence Bockhorst, all of Warren/Montgomery County, Missouri. Do you have any information on any of these people? I would like to hear from you.

Bockhorsts

Frank,I'm afraid I haven't traced the Bockhorsts very far back -- from what I've been able to find, my particular branch may go back to Groenloh, Hannover sometime in the 18th century, but I haven't been able to get much further than that (and that's sketchy). I only started looking recently (I haven't even spoken with my grandmother at length yet). I have heard that the name may go back to the Netherlands.

Andrew

Boekhorst genealogy

Since 1990 I am looking for my ancestors in Dutch Archives. Boekhorst is a Dutch name and I can image your name having the same roots. My family still lives in the village Loo near Arnhem. (Bridge too far). It's quite possible that your name stems from the old farm with the same name. It's also possible that it is a family which stems from 'de Veluwe' a region north of Arnhem. When you send me a mail we could sort things out.

Good luck,

Frank Boekhorst

Looking for information on the Bockhorst family name -- I'm the grandson of Roland Bockhorst of St. Louis, prof. of architecture at Washington University.
Please let me know if you have, or know of, any extensive genealogical work on the Bockhorsts. Thanks a bunch.
