A self described polygamist was convicted Wednesday of charges that he starved,tortured and abused his two wives and many of his 19 children.
A riverside County Superior Court in California found Mansa Musa Muhummed (Richard Boddie) guilty on 25 counts including torturing seven of the children, abusing 12 of them and falsely imprisoning the wives. He faces seven life sentences.
Muhummed, 55, shook his head as the verdict was read, prosecutor Julie Baldwin said.
Muhummed, whose birth name is Richard Boddie, told authorities that his Muslim faith gave him the right to take multiple wives. He was arrested in 1999 after one of his wives, Laura Cowan, managed to slip a 13 page letter to a postal service worker describing the abuse.

Hi Everyone,

I'm searching for any information on the Boddie family in Frome/Mells area of Somerset in the late 18th early 19th Century. I have got as far back as George and Susannah Boddie, however have no birth dates or anything! I know they existed as Ive found records that they have had their children christened and married there. Their daughter Susannah Boddie married a Thomas Horler in 1823/4, with witnesses being Anne Nicholson Boddie and William Boddie. However that is all. Any tips or pointers would be great!

I understand the frustration that you are feeling. But imagine my frustration when I began researching African American Boddies only to find out only two generations removed that I have to change my line of thought. My Boddies were WHITE Boddies, so not only am I researching African American Boddies but my white ancestors also. We can not limit ourselves or we will never reach our goal. I have come to realize that we must keep an open mind and be open to all things.

I am most concerned about some aspects of the published BODDY (and spelling variations) PEDIGREEs which connect the American line with the Norfolk & Essex (UK) families (and the collateral lines claimed). I have reason to question the veracity of some of the claims. That being the case I would be most pleased if someone could point me in the direction of some proof of the links. The published connections provide links to virtually every royal house ever created and I, for one, would like this to be true (it makes research so much easier!), however, being a doubting Thomas, I must first have proof before claiming the descent.
I would be most grateful for any assistance which you can provide.. it is in the interests of all to determine the veracity of the claims.

I am a descendant of the Nash County Boddies. I have seen the family tree on Meet The Boddies. I trying to link them to the family members I do know. My grandfather is Alvin N. Boddie. His parents were Astor Boddie and Bessie (Richardson, maiden). Astor Boddie's mother was Isabelle Boddie (some of her siblings were Julia, Tassie, Louis- not sure of spellings). Isabelle's parents were Robert Lee Boddie and Sara Mitchell. I can't seem to find any info beyond this. Can anyone help me?

I am not researching the Boddie surname; however, I have come across an abstract of a Land Patent issued to William Boddie in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. The patent was issued 26 Apr 1684 in Patent Book 7, page 394. I found this abstract in "Cavaliers and Pioneers; Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents and Grants, Volume Two." Most libraries have this series of books. Happy hunting!

I am looking for James Blackmore Boddie, III's family, I am the daughter of one of his first cousins. I have had a hard time locating much on the Boddie family after Jim's grandfather,James Blackmore Boddie, SR.

We are researching for any info on who the true parents of Henry McCARTY b. 1825 AL. mar., Huntsville, Madison
Co., AL. Aug 1861 to SARAH E. BRANNON b.18 Feb 1842. She was born Augusta, Richmond Co., GA.
Came to Arkansas in 1881-1882 by wagon train. They settled in Faulkner Co.,AR.
Family tradition and grandchildren of Henry & Sarah all claim his father & mother were immigrants to the U.S. "He was
an Irish catholic & she was English protestant & their parents opposed their marriage" They settled in Charleston, S.C.
before moving to Huntsville, AL. Her maiden name supposedly was LUCINDA BODDIE.
However, Henry's death cert. states that "his father was JOHN McCARTY born in AL. & his mother's name as JANE
HOWELL, also b. in AL. The informant on the death certificate 14 Nov 1915 was WILLIE FLEMING, Henry's oldest
grandson at the time of death.
I am wondering if John and Jane Howell were 2nd generation in the U.S. (and not the immigrants) and one of their
mother's name was LUCINDA BODDIE.
Henry & Sarah Brannon McCarty's children were:
Samuel Henry b.1863 - AL; Jimmie Brannon b. 1865 AL; Mary Eliz.(Molly) b. 1867 AL; Lucy Carolin b. 21 Nov 1869

I am looking for family of Margaret Boddie who was born in SC in 1811. She married Leroy Day, born in 1802, also in SC. The Alabama census shows them in Lowndes Co., Ala. from 1840 through 1860. On the 1850 census they lived close to Abijah Boddie. Who does Margaret belong to? I also need to know who Leroy Day's parents/siblings were.
