Hi Jess,

Just came across this link. I do not know how old it is, but I am a descendent of Susannah Boddie and Thomas Horler through Martha, their daughter. I got back as far as Susannah's parents, George and Susanna but few details. I can go forward to today from there with Martha Horler's line. I can pass on the info I have if it's a help.

Scott
Nora (may have also been known as Manora) was my gg-grandmother. I believe she was born in Nash County, but settled in Enfield around 1910. Her parents were George and Bandie Boddie. She eventually married Lawrence Whitaker, but took the name Whitley prior to that.

She had at least seven children. Elias Whitley, Fred Douglas Boddie (my g-grandfather), Pearly Boddie, George Boddie, Addie Boddie, Earnest Boddie, and Lloyd Whitaker.

I'm interested in connecting with anyone researching any of those lines. Looking forward to chatting!

1861 UK Census - Michael and Elizabeth Addyman were living at Warsill Hall with children. I think Elizabeth was born Boddy and all these children were baptised at Bishop Thornton RC church near Ripon. My great grandmother was Elizabeth Addyman, daughter of Jane Addyman, daughter of John Addyman of Brimham Hall by his second wife. Michael Addyman may have been a brother of Jane Addyman. I'm still sorting the Addymans out. John Addyman had 11 children by his first wife and 13 by his second wife so there are a lot of Addymans to sort out. There were quite a few Boddy baptisms at Bishop Thornton.

If you Google 'Brimham Hall' there is a Rootsweb site of this branch of the family.

Is this any help?

BODDIE OF MELLS/FROME,SOMERSET, ENGLAND?!

Hi Everyone,

I'm searching for any information on the Boddie family in Frome/Mells area of Somerset in the late 18th early 19th Century. I have got as far back as George and Susannah Boddie, however have no birth dates or anything! I know they existed as Ive found records that they have had their children christened and married there. Their daughter Susannah Boddie married a Thomas Horler in 1823/4, with witnesses being Anne Nicholson Boddie and William Boddie. However that is all. Any tips or pointers would be great!

Thanks!

Jess

If I could link a sister Priscilla/Poly Perry to them, all with the same Jeremiah as the father...whala! it would make sense, my Warren Co., GA info would then fit. Anyway, I'll email direct and send some bits I know, may be helpful. Stan

Hi, Stan --- You and I are struggling with two aspects of the same problem. I don't know the answers to your questions, any more than I know the answer to mine.
Here's what I know. My 3-great grand-father was Burrell Perry (one of 18 men born prior to 1850 with this name -- all of them related in one way or another!). He was born 16 Feb 1767 in NC, probably Franklin County. On 11 Dec 1789 he married Hester (or Esther) Bird, in Franklin County. Some time later he moved his family to Georgia before finally settling in Williamson County, TN in the early 1800s.
His father was Jeremiah Perry, and I understand that his mother's name was Jane, but I have not been able to learn her identity. He was the youngest child in the family, and was left an orphan at a rather early age. He had several brothers and sisters, but the only one that I have any knowledge of was a brother named Willis Perry. I don't know any of his sisters names.
There is an informal e-network of Perry researchers who keep in occasional contact with each other who are researching this extended Perry family. If you'll e-mail me directly at petehamilton@hotmail.com, I'll put you in contact with them. Maybe one of them will have some information on your line.
Saw your message and I've been trying to ID Jeremiah Perry and Jane Temperance Boddie as the parents of a Priscilla Perry (maybe a sister of Burrell & Willis Perry?). Priscilla Perry is alleged to have married a Charles Baker and had a daughter Priscilla Baker, who married James Collins. James Collins is the father of Willis Septimus Collins. The migration seems to be VA?, NC, GA. I have very little confirmed info on the Perry & Baker lines, I do have some later Collins info beyond Willis. Maybe it fits with what you have, possibly you can share more info...sounds like we might be looking at the same Perry line coming together in the 1700's. Thanks, Stan

San Gabriel Valley Tribune Thursday June 12 2008 page A5.
A self described polygamist was convicted Wednesday of charges that he starved, tortured and abused his two wives and many of his 19 children.
A riverside County Superior Court in California found Mansa Musa Muhummed (Richard Boddie) guilty on 25 counts including torturing seven of the children, abusing 12 of them and falsely imprisoning the wives. He faces seven life sentences.
Muhummed, 55, shook his head as the verdict was read, prosecutor Julie Baldwin said.
Muhummed, whose birth name is Richard Boddie, told authorities that his Muslim faith gave him the right to take multiple wives. He was arrested in 1999 after one of his wives, Laura Cowan, managed to slip a 13 page letter to a postal service worker describing the abuse.

I'm not sure where and if my line ties into the one of which you wrote. I've been desperately searching for Lucinda Bodie (Boddie). This elusive woman was married (it may have been one of several marriages) to a Frank or Franklin Childress (Childree). This Lucinda would have had a daughter named Amanda, Eudora (or Dora), Genara? (sp?) and John. Although some of the girls names may be nicknames or middle names used as first. Mine are from Alabama also. I would be SO appreciative if you could give me any information that you have on any Lucinda Boddie's you have recorded. This is the first time that I have been able to find her name mentioned anywhere!
Thanks
Rhonda

I am a descendant of the Nash County Boddies. I have seen the family tree on Meet The Boddies. I trying to link them to the family members I do know. My grandfather is Alvin N. Boddie. His parents were Astor Boddie and Bessie (Richardson, maiden). Astor Boddie's mother was Isabelle Boddie (some of her siblings were Julia, Tassie, Louis- not sure of spellings). Isabelle's parents were Robert Lee Boddie and Sara Mitchell. I can't seem to find any info beyond this. Can anyone help me?

The patent was issued 26 Apr 1684 in Patent Book 7, page 394. I found this abstract in "Cavaliers and Pioneers; Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents and Grants, Volume Two." Most libraries have this series of books. Happy hunting!

BOGUS BODDIES????

I am most concerned about some aspects of the published BODDY (and spelling variations) PEDIGREEs which connect the American line with the Norfolk & Essex (UK) families (and the collateral lines claimed). I have reason to question the veracity of some of the claims. That being the case I would be most pleased if someone could point me in the direction of some proof of the links. The published connections provide links to virtually every royal house ever created and I, for one, would like this to be true (it makes research so much easier!), however, being a doubting Thomas, I must first have proof before claiming the descent.
I would be most grateful for any assistance which you can provide.. it is in the interests of all to determine the veracity of the claims.
Please make contact via crowcombe@hotmail.com
I saw your posting and was wondering if your Aunt has any oral history regarding Bennett and Elizabeth Boddie of Waverly Hall, Harris Co., GA. Bennett was the eldest child of Nathan Van Boddie and his wife Elizabeth (nee Williams). Ben's wife, also named Elizabeth, was the daughter of William Whitehead of Harris Co. I'm primarily interested in any stories about children Bennett may have fathered with a woman of color. Thanks

There is also a World Family tree I found at Ancestry.com-entry #21396 by Larry Gatlin that has a lot of the same info. Do you know anything about Wm Henry Key's ancestors?
