Frank A Bodkin of Indiana killed in South Pacific in WWII

Frank A Bodkin of Indiana was killed August 10, 1945, in the South Pacific during World War II. He is officially listed as missing or buried at sea. His name appears on the “Tablets of the Missing” at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life.

I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information about servicemen from your county killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines.

http://fizkid.tripod.com/

My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date.

If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us.

Zenas5@yahoo.com

Sincerely,

Dave and Apple Dwiggins
San Pablo City, Philippines

The Bodkin families in Tuam

I read with interest Elizabeth Blazaks note on the different Bodkin families around Tuam. I will now throw a cat in among the pigeons. Among the guests at my maternal grandparents wedding in 1904 were Judge M. Bodkin & his wife. They were the parent of the famous Proffesor Thomas Bodkin & Fr. Matthew Bodkin S.J. Judge Bodkin was a brother of the grooms mother and son of Dr. Bodkin in Eastlaand house Tuam. My grandparents lived in Headford Castle which was burned down in 1906.Under the newspaper article describing the fire was another story of a John Bodkin of Tullinadaly who was home on holidays from the U.S. after 39 years. He was a leading member of the press in San Francisco and uncle of Drs. Thos. B. Costello Tuam, M. B. Costello Dunmore And ? Mahon Ballinrobe..He was remembered for his part in the local drama production of the 1860’s.A half sister of my grandmother married a Henry Gordan and lived in Kilclooney house which was built and previously occupied by a John Bodkin M.P. One of his sons was a major in the British army and another, a famous Jesuit ,who was dean of Stoneyhurst. There were also Bodkins in Annagh. There should be enough information there to keep some researchers happy for years.

Stephen Bodkin Family - Sanderson Texas early 1900s

According to a published history of Terrell County, TX:
Stephen Cecil Saunders Bodkin and his wife and family came to Sanderson, Texas in 1908. He was born in Maidston, Kent, England on December 9, 1871. He came to America when he was 18. He married Ida Belle ROBITSCH on August 2, 1894. She was born June 23, 1876, in Leipzig, Germany, and was living in San Antonio when she married Bodkin.

Stephen and Ida Belle Bodkin are buried in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Sanderson, Terrell County, Texas (far southwest Texas).

S. C. and Ida Belle had 4 children - 3 daughters - Ethel, who married first, around 1912, Walter M. Raysor of South Carolina who owned a mercantile store in Sanderson, TX. After his death in 1924, Ethel married J. H. Brown ; Ione, who married Tom E. Bryan; and Cecile, who married Horace E. Fletcher. Their son Martin (Bull) Bodkin married Clara Bode.

I have found some information about Martin and Clara Bode Bodkin which I would be happy to share. However, I am really interested in Ethel. Her first husband, Walter Raysor, was my grandmother's brother. I believe they had at least one child together, Tom Raysor, but he may have died young.

Walter Raysor was killed in Cedar Key, Florida in July 1924. I have photos of Walter and one portrait of Ethel. Just as a matter of curiosity, I would like to tie up some loose ends on this family.

Thanks for any clues.

Pat
Bodkin Family, Co. Galway Ireland.

My connection to the Bodkin family comes through a marriage between Mary Ann Bodkin born about 1817 at Menlough, Co. Galway and James Moon born 1822 at Ashford Hill, Hampshire, England. Mary was the daughter of Thomas Bodkin a carpenter and Elizabeth (maiden name is unknown). It was recorded on the shipping papers when they arrived in Australia in 1853 that only her mother was still living at Menlough, her father had passed away by that time. I have no other information on this family (bits and pieces of other Bodkin families in Galway but they don't seem to tie in with mine).
I would love to hear from anyone who is connected with or who may have information on this family.
Kind Regards,

I have been doing Bodkin research in Lancaster Co, Pa, Harford Co., Md., Frederick Co.,Va., And Shenandoah Co. Va this summer. I found a Charles Bodkin in 1763 in Little Britain Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa along with Robert Bodkin who then appears in Harford and then Shenandoah . The Charles born in 1738 Bull Pasture Va ?????? Is there any documentation as to when he got to Bull Pasture?? I'm thinking the one in Lancaster and Bull Pasture could be the same, and he might be the brother of Robert????

Mary Bodkin m. Michael Hoover-- in 1821 in Pendleton Co., VA (WV)

I am trying to find the ancestry of Mary Bodkin b. Sept. 27, 1800 in (Pendleton Co.,?), VA and died March 08, 1871 in Mercer Co., IL. She married Michael Nicholas Hoover (1800-aft.1880) in 1821 in Pendleton Co., VA. Michael was the son of Michael Hoover, Sr. (1753-1842) and Mary (?) of Pendleton Co., VA. Their children were as follows...

1. John b.1823 in VA
2. Mary b. Dec. 02, 1824 in OH
3. James M. b.1828 in OH
4. Margaret A. b.1830 in Madison Co., IN
5. Rachel b.1834 in IN
6. Ansel (Ancil) B. b.1837/1838 in IN
7. William Williamson b.Dec. 02, 1839 in Delphi, IN

I have found two John(s), one William, and one Thomas Bodkin (Botkin) in the 1810 Pendleton Co., VA census. In 1820, I found a Capt. John, George, and Thomas Bodkin (Botkin) in Pendleton Co., VA. However, only Capt. John or Thomas were old enough to be Mary's father.

Which Bodkin (Botkin) is my Mary's father?

I would very much appreciate any and all assistance regarding this dilemma. Thank you in advance!
I am searching for my biological father, who I have never met. His name is Jerry Bodkin or Bodkins. He was in the Air Force and stationed in Maryland in 1963 when I was conceived. He left shortly after my birth in 64'. He has blonde hair and blue or blue-green eyes. He would now be in his very late 50's to mid 60's. Believe he lives somewhere in the south. I do not want to upset his life. If for some reason a relationship is not wanted, then none is needed. I do need medical background and to also know that at least, I finally found him. Please contact me with any info you may have.
Thank You
Brenda
P.S.
I did not want to post on this kind of board, just incase he never told his family about me.But I'm running out of options.I'm truly sorry if I hurt anyone.

Research help/links for English Bodins, circa 1700's?

Hi everyone!

I see alot of information about the Bodkin Clan of Ireland, but my particular line is traced back to Kent, England.

Right now, I have my line confirmed back to Richard Bodkin, born 1746 in Kent, England.

Unconfirmed is that I think he is the son of Thomas Bodkin and Mercy/Macey Martin who married 1731 in Tonbridge, Kent and may had lived in Marden, Kent.

Richard married Mary Fisher (born 1749, Yalding, Kent) on April 30, 1749 in East Peckham, Kent.

I have searched the IGI records at the LDS website and have come up with a very good sketch of Richard's descendtry (of course with the usual holes here and there). But would like to be able to go back further, and also fill in my question marks.

Any help appreciated. Please email me at either GenJunkie@Yahoo.com or MC289@Aol.com. Sometimes my AOL mail is unaccessable for some UNGODLY reason!!

Thanks to all!
Mary
