Katherine Ott's (née Boehm) death notices were published in Milwaukee's German newspapers and possibly in the English language papers too (they're not necessarily the same). There are 260+ Ott and 175+ Boehm / Böhm entries in the growing data file.

"Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950).
Gary Rebholz, compiler/editor
Milwaukee Wis.
gary.rebholz@gmail.com
Indexing Milwaukee's German newspapers continuously since 2007... helping family researchers collect evidence of our historic German-American culture.

Hi! My name is Katie and I have been doing research on my g-g-grandmother. Her name was Mary Boehm(b 1876) and was Wendelin and John's niece. She came and lived with John when she came over in 1896. I have hit a brick wall in finding more information and I was wondering if you knew John and Wendelin's parents names? Or possibly their brother who may be my Num num's father? No one seems to remember either of her parents names. If you could provide any help that would be great. You said the noodle company split into 2? Any more information on that? Thank you!!

They are definitely the same. I have John being married at least twice, if not three times. His first wife was Mary Louisa Barclay, with his second wife being Carrie Magee. He seems to have had four children with Mary Barclay (including my ancestor), and then likely three children with Carrie (your husband's family). Would love to talk more with you or your mother-in-law about our shared family!

Louise: We are definitely but distantly related. Here is an excerpt from my Fleck Family History:

Mary Schwendel Fleck had a cousin whose maiden name was Magdalena Schwendel (not to be confused with Mary’s mother, Madge, whose married name was also Magdalena Schwendel). This Magdalena (1807-1890) was the daughter of Pancratious Schwendel, mentioned above in our dialog with the German genealogist. Magdalena married Francois Pierre Boehm in Rheinhessen, Hesse, July 27, 1830. They had two children born to them in Darmstadt: Francois Joseph (born 1831) and Lisette (born 1837). They immigrated to America, and their third child, Peter, was born in St. Louis in 1842. At some point, Magdalena and the three children relocated to New Orleans, where all four lived out their days, while her husband went to California. Perhaps it is a coincidence, but the California gold rush was in 1849. Francois Pierre Boehm died in Oroville in the Gold Country in 1858. Their daughter Lisette married William Siebold and they lived in New Orleans.

My Dad, in his Commentary on his Genealogical Table of the Fleck Family, told of a visit to the Siebolds when he was twenty years old. He was convinced there was

"… a very definite relationship [to] the Siebold Family, located in New Orleans, LA. This was brought to light in 1921, by Raymond A. Fleck, Sr., at the time of his personal visit to their home … where he was greeted as their “Cousin.”

The elderly couple, mother and father of the Siebolds’ three daughters, were referred to by Raymond A. Fleck, Sr., as “Aunt and Uncle”. This elderly couple was well into their 90s and were senile. They were taken care of by a powerfully built, tall black woman, who had been a slave, and a retainer in the family since that period. There were also one or two sons, who did not live at home with the family.

The elderly couple was probably William Siebold and his wife, Lisette Boehm, granddaughter of Pancratious Schwendel. In the same Commentary Dad noted

There is a letter to the writer from my cousin Lucille [Roesch] Stapleton which is part of the genealogical files, which has a bearing on the Siebold branch of the family. The letter is undated, but was received in the 1950s. It says in part:

“I am laboriously making copies of the family genealogy, most of which information was gathered by Dr. Herman Siebold, one of the New Orleans cousins. His mother was related to grandma Fleck. Incidentally her [grandma's] name was Mary Schwendel.”

------

Louise, I would be interested any of the particulars about Francois Pierre Boehm's intinerary from St. Louis to Oroville. Did he go with his wife and three children to New Orleans before going to California? Your post indicates the Gold Rush was his motivation for leaving them. What do you have on his experiences there? You mention his death in a fire. -- I beienve I can come up with a picture of his father-in-law Pancratious Schwendel and his wife's cousin Mary (Anna Maria) Schwendel Fleck.

Raymond Fleck, Jr. (Our Ancestry account is in my wife's name.)

Hello, Erna
Recently I have red your comment (7 Mar 2011) on portal ancestry.com, concerning Tauchen. I also try to find out more about my ancestors. My great-grandfather Johannes Hanzman was born 1814 in Tauchen. Later he moved to Neustift. I have looked trough some microfilm copies of church registers in the National Archives of Hungary. (I live in Budapest). I have found some entries of Hanzman and also some Ofenbeck. If you are interested in these entries, I could write them to you in e-mail. (My e-mail address: janos.hanszmann@gmail.com ) I would be interested in data or any information about Hanzmans in Tauchen, in Neustift.
Janos H.
The census says that Lorenz b. abt 1830was born in Germany - Bavaria. He was married to Elizabeth Nuemerich b. abt. 1845 who was born in Hessie Damstadt, Germany. Looks like she was born in the same place as your ancestor. She and Lorenz were married in the US.

Thanks for replying

Matthias Boehm and Catherine Miller 1850s New York

Greeting fellow Boehms!

I requested and received the marriage certificate of John H. Boehm to Mary L. Barclay in New York on Feb 22, 1867. On this marriage certificate John H. Boehm's parents are listed as Matthias Boehm and Catherine Miller. Does anyone have any information about his parents? The same marriage certificate lists John H. Boehm's birth as being in New York about 1846. I can't find anything on his parents other than their names. Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Re: Boehm family history

Hello, my name is Erna (nee Ofenbeck)and I just read your query. I too am trying to find out more about my Dad's people in Tauchen, Burgenland, Austria. He was born in 1907 in Tauchen (which is not too far from Neustift) and emigrated to Canada in 1929. His father was Samuel Ofenbeck, his mother Rosina (nee Hansman, Hanzman?)both of whom are buried in Tauchen. He also had a sister Karoline (Linnie) with married surname Kalchbrenner who lived with her family all her life in the family home in Tauchen. That house still stands but has since been sold.
I know there were one or two Adam Ofenbecks in Tauchen in the 1800's, and assume they are my Dad's forebears.
If any of those names mean anything, I hope they are a lead for your search.
