John Gordon Boehmer March 17th 1918 Sept. 30th 2005 John passed away peacefully at Saskatoon City Hospital with his wife and family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife Edith and his nine children, John (Linda) Boehmer, Gilda (John) Hamilton, Judy (Jim) Dowler, Barry Boehmer (Karen), Lavana (Hannes) Heel, Jane (Tom) Dietrich, Philip (Marnie) Boehmer, Edith (Andy) Kent, and Penny (Pat) Longworth. As well, he will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Chris (Christine), Tammy (Scott), Cary (Linda), Paul (Coral), Patrick, Thomas, Morgan, Robbie (Krissy) and Britany, Charlene (Darcy), Dawn, Shawna, Bradley, Johnathon, Angela (Myles), Candice, Kristen (Kim), Nicholas, Andrew, Dustin, Brady, Madison, Christian, Aiden, Libby and Joey. He will also be sadly missed by Pam Boehmer, his sister in-law Dottie and his surviving siblings, Trudy (Ewald), Luther (Janice), Flora (Ralph), Harold (Faith). He was predeceased by his son Edward, his brothers, Karl and Fritz, his sisters, Mary and Dorothy, and his parents John and Mary. John was born in Kronau, Sask. to John and Mary Boehmer. He grew up in the community of Walpole, Sask. where he attended Bethany school. One of John's early jobs was helping his dad in the blacksmith shop on the farm; he would turn the crank on the forge. When he finished school he worked on the home farm while his dad ran the blacksmith shop in Carlyle. He married Edith Preston from Kelso, Sask. on Feb.6th, 1943. They then moved to B.C. where he was enlisted and began training when their first son was born. In January 1945, John was called up to serve overseas on active duty in World War II. Before returning at the end of the war, he served as an interpreter in Germany. While in the forces he worked as a barber to make some extra money. John often remarked that when he returned home from duty, he was "so glad to be back in Canada! " John and Edith began farming near Walpole, Sask. in 1946 and nine more children were born while they lived on the farm. John was very involved in all of his children's activities, including 4H clubs and driving to their many sports activities. He always had such patience, tolerance and kindness in all his relationships with his family. At the same time he kept busy running a mixed farm as well as doing all the butchering to keep meat on the family table. John took great pleasure in meeting and socializing with others and loved music, dancing, and especially playing the harmonica in the last year of his life. He enjoyed rounding up cattle on his horse `Queenie' and was a skilled rider. His active lifestyle included sports, family activities, and of course his many grandchildren. Throughout his life he was a true gentleman and always saw the goodness in others. The family gives special thanks to the palliative care nurses and doctors at Saskatoon City Hospital, as well as Donna and Corrine, for their love and compassion. An evening visitation and viewing for family and friends will be held at Saskatoon Funeral Home on Tuesday Oct. 4th, 7:00 9:00 PM. The funeral will be held at Wawota United Church Thursday, Oct. 6th at 2:00 PM, with lunch to follow at 3:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
