What country do most Boens come from?
Germany?
Ireland?
What?
I am looking for Ann Boen (Bone? Bowne?)who married my gggrandfather Hiram Cornelius about 1837.
In a 1920 census of Guthrie County, Iowa, Hiram's son, also named Hiram Cornelius and my ggrandfather, who was born 10 Feb 1847), claimed his father was from Ireland and spoke English and his mother was from Germany and spoke German. According to family records, his mother's surname was Boen, so I am wondering whether Boen is a common German name.
