Enlisted men in 16th lancer

I am trying to trace the Boer war activities of my Grandfather William Charles Brett. I know he was a trooper in the 16th Lancers and that they fought in the Boer War. Can any one suggest how I trace enlisted men as to the best of my knowledge he was not an officer. I know he had two medals (recently stollen by house burglars) but do not know whether they were for specific actions or for the general campaign.
