Surnames: Mendyka, Bogacki, Blecharczyk
My grandfather, Antoni Mendyka (1892-1970) was born in Golcowa, Poland. His father's name was Jan Mendyka and his mother was Agata Bogacki. They had three children, Andrezj, Wictoria, and my grandfather, Antoni, in that order. Agata's mother (we have no name) also lived with the family. Agata and her mother were mid wives and also seamstresses (from what I understand they were artisans at their craft). When Antoni was three or four years old his mother died while giving birth to another child. The baby died also. This left the grandmother to care for the family. She passed on not long after also. In 1907 and 1909 my grandfather and his sister and brother came to the United States and settled in Waterbury, Connecticut. We are interested in finding ancestors of Jan Mendyka and Agata Bogacki. There are some extremely artistically talented people in our family and we are interested in finding out the connection where this ability comes from if possible. Please e-mail me at cmendyka@gowebway.com if you have any information or if I may be of any service to you. John Mendyka
