My family settled in Annona, TX which is a small town in extreme Northeast Texas near Clarksville, TX and the Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana borders. My grandfather's name was Minnigan Bogan and he was married to Viola Washington. They had a total of 6 children.I would like some information on the name and ,if at all possible, what part of the country we may have migrated from. My family is the only Bogan family, black or white, that I've ever come in contact with. Any information would be appreciated. Thank You.

Isaac and Easter [Esther, Hester] Farrar Bogan

Okay, I am t-totally confused! I have been doing some confirmation research to back-up things that I have researched about the Bogans. I am starting to find a lot of information that says that Easter [Esther, Hester] Farrar, wife of Isaac Bogan, was NOT the daughter of Thomas Farrar and Elizabeth Howard, but the daughter of James McElroy. This is supposedly proven in McElroy’s will. If this is true, it blows about ten years of research out of the water. Does anyone have any absolutely correct information on this subject either way? Moreover, if it is true, how could I have been following the wrong information for so many years? This is very discouraging.

She was my great great grandmother. She married Jeremiah Kerns. They lived near Hume, Missouri in Bates County. She had other siblings in the area. My mother called one, Uncle Thomp. Samantha died March 21st, 1940. I don't know her birthdate. I don't know where the family originated from. If anyone knows anything about this family, please let me know. I don't know anything about the Kerns family past Jeremiah Kerns either. I don't know his siblings or parents, where the name originated, or anything. Now that everybody on my Mom's side is dead and gone, I don't have anyone to ask.
I'm trying to find out about my great grandmother Mary Bogan. As far as I can find out she came from England in the early 1900's to Pennsylania. I think around 1917 or 1918. I think her maiden name was Green. I don't have very much information on her so if anybody out there knows of the Bogan name from England I would appreciate it. Thanks

Castlefinn, County Donegal, Ireland

Rev. William Henry, Rector of Killesher, Co. Fermanagh, travelled through the area in 1739.

He describes Finn Water as "a large river, for its stillness and size, somewhat like the Boyne." He traces it from Lough Finn to the 'small market town of Ballymafey/Stranorlar; past Cavan, the seat of Lord Mountjoy, where there is a beautiful oak wood with remarkable straight stems.' Donaghmore, where Cairnes Henderson had a beautiful seat with well laid-out garden. Castlefin where there was a ferry. Clady Bridge - 'Where the Derrymen in 1689 were barely betrayed by their infamous Governor Col. Lundy, who having sold them into the hands of their enemies, sent them out with no ammunition.'

The story against Lundy had not improved with time! Rev. Henry seemed to think the country was in a good enough state, but a survey of Castlefin Manor, carried out in 1750, reads-

"Though it is nothing at present but a heap of ruins - having scarcely either house or tenant in it worth taking notice of - it is exceedingly well placed for trade. It lies in the middle of well planted country, by the side of a navigable river, by which they may go every Spring tide with boats or lighter of ten tons, to and from Londonderry.

The whole country about it is as remarkable for flax and yarns, as any. Would the proprietors get a bridge built over the river, which could be done for less than £400, or lay out land in the adjacent farms to accommodate the town, with the town tenancies being set in long leases - to traders of substance - it would turn to great advantage to both town and country."

Apparently, the countryside had recovered well - but the village of Castlefin was a bit of a mess!

http://www.finnvalley.ie/people/maryagneselliott/siegeofderr...

Boggan History

The Yola People

It was in the South east of Ireland, at Baginbun, on the 1st May 1169, that a small company of mercenaries led by a group of Anglo-Norman knights landed. They sailed from Wales at the invitation of Dermot McMurrough, the Irish King of Leinster*. These were soldiers not of the King of England but of the Earl of Pembroke, known as Stongbow, and were only in pursuit of wealth and land.

Strongbow married Dermot's daughter and intermarriage between the invaders and the indigenous Irish became common, as did the exchange and interchange of languages, laws and customs, until they became "more Irish than the Irish". Hence the Yola People with their own unique language and customs. Numerous attempts were made by successive kings of England to prohibit this, and in Kilkenny in 1366, the Irish parliament legislated against the invaders wearing the Irish dress, hairstyle, language and laws - but their efforts proved unsuccessful.

The Yola People have roots of French, Flemish, Danish, English and Welsh origin, mixed with indigenous Irish and have names such as:

Barry
Devereux
Keating
Scurlock

Boggan
Doyle
Kinsella
Siggins

Bolger
Druhan
Lambert
Sinnott

Browne
Duff
Larkin
Stafford

Bryan
Fitzgerald
Meyler
Sutton

Busher
Fleming
Neville
Talbot

Chivers
French
O' Brian (Breen)
Wadding

Cloney
Furlong
Parle
Walsh

Codd
Godkin
Power
Whitty

Colfer
Grace
Prendergast

Condon
Harpur
Roche

Connick
Hay
Rochford

Cullen
Hore
Rossiter

Cusack
Kavanagh
Scallan

* Leinster (in the East) is one of the four provinces of Ireland, the rest being Ulster (North), Munster (South) and Connaught (West). Ginger and his son S.W.P. are mentioned in this handwritten copy, but I can't find documentation that they are Andrew' s descendants. My branch stayed in Bath county while others went to Ohio and Indiana. Can you help me? Hopefully, Jan Bogan.

Many people have mention Walter Bog(g)an, sometimes with brother Patrick, sometimes linking him to Benjamin Bogan, sometimes with John or William or a sister, et al. Sometimes Walter is listed as Sir Walter Bogan. I have been unable to find him in any contemporary, (17th or 18th century) document.

I am descended from Andrew Bogan, who died about 1820 in Rockbridge Co, VA (born c 1750, place unknown), through his daughter Lucinda Bogan (born 1800, married Jesse B Smith, 1825 and died in Pike Co, IL, 1866).

I am seeking any primary evidence in the form of a document which mentions Walter Bogan, who by several people is claimed to be the progenitor, or brother to many Colonial American Bogans.

Can anyone give a cite to a document (either Irish or American) giving Walter or any of his siblings which would establish their relationship to an Colonial American Bogan family?

I have worked on collecting Bogan family records since 1955, and toward that goal I have found much "Bogan documentation", BUT I have been UNSUCCESSFUL in my search to link my Andrew Bogan to the Patrick who moved from PA to VA to NC between 1740 and 1756; or to the Benjamin who served in the American Revolution from Frederick Co, VA; or to Captain Patrick Bog(g)an of Anson Co, NC; or to John or William Bogan of Colonial SC.

Can anyone provide any documentation toward connecting these people?

I just came into possession of a High School English grammar book c.1895 that belonged to a Charles.C.Bogan. It seems that the initials of the High School were T.C.H.S. I found it in an antique store in Pendleton, Oregon although it could have come from anywhere. There is also a photo of a young person in the book labeled with the name D.Peters and a drawing of a woman named Edith. It seems Charles was an artist. Do these names ring any bells with anyone?
