vanden Bogaard (various spellings) and Verhoeven families in / near Brown Co, WI

Looking for any Verhoeven's or Bogard's who lived / still live in the Brown or Outagamie County areas. We descend from Albert Vanden Bogaard (various spellings) and Wilhelmina Verhoeven. 3 of their children left Wisconsin and settled in Larimer County, Colorado around 1902+-.

We know very little about the earlier generations or those who stayed in the Depere / Brown Co. area. Both families originated in Uden, Noord Brabant, Netherlands.

Would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about these families.

LBogard
Colorado

Re: Eugene Bogard

I have traced my family of Bogards back to the year 1630. One of my direct ancestors was Cornelius Corneliszen-Bogaert who was born in the Netherland in 1630 and died on July 28, 1665 in Albany, NY. He had a son whose name is shown as Cornelius Bogaert who lived in New York from 1664 to 1751 and he had a son who lived from 1700 to 1778 whose name was Gysbert Bogard (the first one I have found to use the Bogard spelling).

I hope this helps you. I read several years ago that all of the Bogards or Bogarts in the US are related if you go back far enough. I don't know if there is any truth in that or not.

I have found some additional information on the Bogards and based on the information I read in an old family bible a few years ago, I believe that most of it is accurate.

Cornelius Bogard (who was my great-great-grandfather)died on April 2,1917 in Avoca, Cass County, NE. His father was Gasper or Gaspar (it is spelled both ways in the family bible) Bogard who died on Dec 13, 1890 in Forest Home, Powesheik, IA. His father was Cornelius Bogard who died in Jefferson, Ross County, OH in 1814. The father of that Cornelius was also Cornelius Bogard who died in 1800 at Jefferson, Ross County, OH. Then his father was Gysbert Bogard who died on May 1, 1778 at Hampshire, VA. The father of Gysbert was Cornelius Bogaert who died in 1751 in Coxsachie, Greene, NY and his father was Cornelius Corneliszen-Bogaert who was born in the Netherlands in 1630 and died July 28, 1665 in Albany, NY. I do not have an exact burial location for any but the most recent generations.

There are so many with the name Cornelius that it is difficult to keep track of them.

Please let me know if this information helps you or not or if you have any information which I do not have.

Hi Matt: I was just looking at the Bogard listings on this website because that was my maiden name. I ran across this posting from you back in 2002. Your Grandpa is my uncle. My dad was his brother John Richard Bogard. He helped your Grandpa build their first house in Long Beach. We use to go and visit them often. Your Great Grandma was Johnnie Evelyn Ashford and your Great Grandpa was Wilson Boyd Bogard both from Mississippi. Hope this will help you on your search.

Searching for George A Bogard b. 1788 VA and Elizabeth Stringer b. 1785 VA.They were my ggg grandparents. My line comes from their daughter Edna R. Bogard b. 1834 KY who was married to Henry Wigginton. (Edna was his second wife) I have a lot on the Wigginton's - back to 1630 England, but not much on the Bogard's or Stringer's. I found them on the 1850 Bullett Co. KY census, and a KY marriage date of Oct 24, 1812.

Hello Beverly - I was so excited to see that you listed Eliza Bogard b. 1852 in your list of Clifton and Eliza Bogard's children. My gg grandmother's maiden name was Eliza Jane Bogard and she was born in 1852 in Vermillion County, IN. The census shows her father was born in KY and her mother was born in IN. I would love to find out if my Eliza and the one you list are the same person.

My Eliza married Sanders Monroe Rice (son of Jefferson and Druscilla/Pricilla Fuqua Rice) of Fleming County, KY (probably around 1873) and the 1880 census shows them in Piatt Co., IL. My great grandfather William Henry Rice was born in IL and the whole family was in Lamar, MO by 1885 as their youngest child Ethel was born there. Eliza was listed by the the name Eliza J. or Eliza Jane on the one birth record I have as well as census records but the few family references I have and her tombstone call her Lydia. I figured this was a nickname since I know Sanders only had one wife. Possibly she picked up the nickname if her mother's name was Eliza as well.

I would love to hear from you and see if you have anymore info on this family.

Thanks,
Chris Stratman

Ida Adaline Armstrong Smallwood Bogard

I hope someone reading this long exchange from several years ago will be kind enough to help me with my research, if possible, into the Smallwood connection here. The 1900 Oil Township, Perry County, Indiana, census shows Ida Bogard, born July, 1866, age 33, head of the household, married 4 months, with 5 children, 3 still living, namely, Luella Smallwood, born December, 1885; Jessie Smallwood (son), born June, 1887; and Delphi Smallwood (daughter), born September, 1891. Delphia, age 9, attended the 2nd grade in November, 1900, in Union Township of Crawford County, Indiana. Perry County marriage records show Ida Armstrong married George R. Smallwood October 18, 1885, and she married Henry Bogart in Crawford County, Indiana, in 1900. I am looking for members of the Smallwood family and believe this George was a brother of my great-grandmother Sarah J. Smallwood. Can anyone tell me anything more about George, or about the children he had with Ida? I will appreciate any help with the Smallwoods, especially if someone knows when/where George lived/died, and where he is buried. Are the Armstrongs his only connection to Washington County? Thanks!
