My Bogdan ancestors were from Bukovina (Romania). My great grandmother Rosa Bogdan married my great grandfather Wilhelm Galinski in Siebenbergen (Transylvania) in 1904. She was born in Jakobeny, Bukovina in 1887. They left Romania for Canada in 1912. I am trying to find out what happened to the Bogdans that stayed in Romania. Do you know the name of the father of the four brother and what are each of the four brother's names. I have 24 Bogdans in my family tree. Some of them may be yours. Terri

Hi Maye,

I have looked thru my records, and I can't find an exact match to your information from what I have. I managed to get back as far as 1767 and then forward. But there are a few holes. Let me do some more research on my records and get back to you.

Anita

HI; My name is Maye Bogdan-Thacker. I do not know who you directed your contact post to, but I have been searching since 2004 for any information at all on my grandfather Stanislaw Valenty Bogdan. I do know that information I have ties him to Pyzy, Grodno, and the Biaystok area. (my spellings of the areas are off only because thats the way they came to me). His parents were Josef Bogdan & Alexandrea Suta.(Sutowski? ). May be of Russian Spelling.I know of only one brother, Bruno, but I am sure there were more family members. I am pretty sure that Stan left Europe via Hamburg on the ship Patricia on 8/17/1907 arriving in New York on the same ship 8/30/1907. Pretty sure that is my grandfather, but not 100% sure. I also know that Stan was born in May of 1890. Can someone help me find the family. I am most curious as to if the family was Polish or Russian. I thank you for any helpthat can be provided. I have run into stone walls fr years. Most Respectfully Maye B-T

My Grandfather was Alexander Bogdan but his name was shortened to Bogdan he was married to Anna Bogdan. Doubbt that helps but if you came accross anything that might help me it would be appreciated. As far as I know, Alexander came here in the early 1900's, his only brother went to France. Alexander shortened his name to Bogdan before marrying Anna.

David

I am looking for anyone who knows anything about Stanislaw Valenty Bogdan and his family. Born 5/25/1890 in Pyzy Poland. I have an application for SS# that says place of birth was Gonione BiacoSeok, Poland. I tried to do a search, but I am sure it is misspelled. Stanislaw's parents were Josef Bogdan & Alexandrea Suta/Suita. I know he had a brother Brunno and possibly a sister Josepha. I believe Stanislaw came to the US in 1907. He married Feliska/ Felicja Mankowski in Chicago IL Jan 24 1914. He was in Milwaukee WI for the 1920 & 1930 US census. Stanislaw died Nov 4, 1941 in Chicago IL. death certificate says place of birth was Pyzy. If anyone out there knows anything about Stanislaw aka: Stanley Bogdan please contact me.
Thank you, Best Regards Maye B-T
This is my grandmother. Names on this side are sometimes recycled. On my dad's side recycling is the norm. I discovered a Bogdan on Ellis that was staying with 'Bil A Zlotorzynski' in New York. I never knew they lived there. Grandpa worked in the shipyards in "Joisey" where he learned his ninth language. He worked briefly in the coal mines in PA, then for Ford in Detroit where he retired. We have had no contact with Bogdan's in the US. I didn't know there others

Hello Teresa, I have good news for you!!
Found another missing Bogdan brother(Nicolae) and in mean time, the BARSAN side of your family, that you was looking for.
Ucea de Jos= ALSOARPAS, in that time, so, ii was a big BARSAN family who imigrated after 1900.
Exemple, Nicolae Bogdan and Nicolae Barsan came an the same ship, in 1912!! from the same village-Alsoarpas.
Nicolae Bogdan (his father was Nicolae Bogdan from Alsoarpas) went to a frend in Lorain-OH. Nicolae Barsan went to his brother in Youngstown-OH.
If you tape BARSAN in Ellis site you'll have almost all Barsan family tree, from Alsoarpas.
And something more: in "whitepages.ro" there are a BARSAN
MARIOARA(nickname from Maria) in UCEA DE JOS.
You have to phone her, have big chance to be from your fam. side. His tel: 402-68-244-824
Good lock and keep me in tuch!
Bye

My wife's maiden name is Bogdon. However, we believe her grandfather changed it from Bogdan after he came from Lepindia, Romania (which is near Sighisoara). So I happened to be reading the Bogdan messages and found your question about the location of Dargas. I could not find Dargas; but, I did find Dorgos. It is a small village about 10 km southeast of Lipova, which is 36 km southeast of Arad, which is on the far western edge of Transylvania near the Hungarian border.

Also, the village of Ucea is about 68 km west of the city of Brasov, which is on the southeastern edge of Transylvania.

I purchased a great map of Transylvania from Amazon.com. If you want the details, send me an email at jhohman1@home.com.

Jim Hohman
