The Mary Blount chapter of the DAR has lots of good documentation about this, including the # of the land grant awarded to Samuel McMurray after the Revolutionary War. You might want to contact them. An excerpt from one document is: "The records proven from the land office in Nashville that Samuel McMurray was given land grant along with William McMurray, North Carolina land grant number 1120, dated Jan. 12, 1793, for 640 acres, registered in Knox County 1794, Blount County 1802."

I received a copy of a news article about the McMurray homestead (with a photograph of their house!) from another distant cousin discovered through this site. if you would like me to forward it to you, please let me know.
