I will continue to look too. I did contact Familytreedna abou the Middle East connection. According to them North Africans can be considered in that group. Or it does not shut out Africans. My connection to this family is pretty far back. It is an interesting note and i am intrigued.

Mona

Charlotte,

Yes! You can benefit if you use 23andme.com. It is a reputable site used by authorities on genealogy. It uses the dna that is passed down through both parents. Get on the site and read about how it works. It's too complicated to explain here.

By the way, I'd love to know how your line fits in with mine. Is yours a public tree?

Candee

I've been following this thread and highly interested, since my grandmother was a Buchanan and descended from this line.

I have a question on the DNA. It is only MEN who benefit from this or can a woman still get some information from taking the DNA test. I guess I had the impression for women, we're not going to come up with any particular 'line' but only general background. Is it worth me even doing it?

Thank!
Charlotte

Mona,

There is a gentleman who knows quite a bit about the archives on Barbados, but I have yet to find out if her parents are mentioned anywhere. I've seen a Thomas Cullmore listed on Ancestry. He was listed as having been "transported" to Maryland after Duncan and Cecily arrived. Transported could mean several things.

I will certainly let you know if anything turns up. I wish I could give you my e-mail address off from here, but then everyone would have it. : - )

Cheers,

DL

No, no. Not likely. More likely she was Scottish, or she was the daughter of a slave and a slave owner. There are both black and white Collymores on Barbados, and there is a story about the ancestry of Frank Collymore (famous Barbadan theatre director) being "tainted" so that his parents almost didn't get married. A slave ship captain, Robert Collymore, may have been that ancestor. Who knows? I think that part of our ancestry is lost to time. It's a mystery I've been working on a long time, and I'm going to keep at it.

Hi. You probably have as much as I do and the same mystery about Cecily. I have three different birthplaces for her: Scotland, Barbados and Nimba, West Africa. It's that last birthplace that has me stumped. Where did that info come from. My surmise is that she may have been a mulatto. That's not out of the question as I had a dna done from 23andme.com recently and found out that I have some African blood. Another of the relatives found a census with one of the ancestors having an "m" by her name. I need to pin that down.

Known facts are that she married Duncan Bohannon on Barbados. There is a record in the national archives there. They sailed for America in 1658 and landed in Delaware but later had land near Gloucester on Mobjack Bay in Virginia. So then we have the birth record for John Bohannon in Barbados, then Henry and another Henry, who fought in the Revolution and is buried near where I live here in Tennessee. I've seen his and Amelia Shotwell's grave.

What else do you need, and I will try and get it for you?

Candee

Variations of his name include Bowles, Bowls & Boals.

They were in Roane & Rhea Co.'s at various times.

New info has surfaced stating her name was Vinia Bohanan.
searching for relatives of Robert Leo Bohanan, of Maryland

I'm the son of Bob Bohanan, in search of any other family members related. I know he had brothers. One named Mike! His mother had remarried to a man named Vernon, and resided in Astor, FL for many years after. I have two half sisters, Karla and Melody who live in Maryland as well!
Overall, I'm just looking for info dating back our family origins and to possibly get in touch with any existing members!! Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Contact E-mail: emailj6@gmail.com

Cecily Collmore

Does anyone have an info on Cecily? She is listed as having been born in Nimba, West Africa. Some records say Liberia, but it didn't exist officially as Liberia until 1847. She was most likely taken to Barbados as a slave. That was a connecting point and buying point. It is very interesting that she married Duncan Bohannon there and moved to Virginia. Virginia at the time was still prohibiting mixed marriage. This has been fascinating me since I discovered this record. I am related to the East Tennessee Bohannans of Sevier County.

William Bohannan/Buchanan, lvd. Richmond Co., NC 1800

A William Bohannan is listed in the 1800 census for Richmond Co., NC at age 45+ (he would have been born in 1755 or before). Listed in his household were one male, age between 10 and 16; one male, age between 16 and 26. Also listed were four females: 1 between 10-16; 1 between 16-26; 1 between 26-45; and one 45 or older. Listed on the same page are several Graham families: Archibald, Duncan, Dugald, and John. Also listed is Dugal Blue. Dugald Graham married Flora "Peggy" Blue and their daughter Effie married a James Buchanan in Richmond Co., NC. I'm trying to identify James' father. Can anyone provide any further information about the William Bohannan who was enumerated in Richmond Co., NC in 1800? A William Buckhannon is listed in the 1810 census in Richmond Co., NC. Is he the same as the William Bohannan of 1800 in Richmond Co.? I'll be grateful for any help.

Yet I can't find the link to tie them all together.Maybe you can help. Not sure where William and Patsey fall into all this I am running on memory after taking a very long break in my search. Need to gather all my info. and get back to the drawing board.Somewhere down the line I will find the link to bring all my info together and figure this thing out.

I've tried over and over to e-mail you. NO response. Did you get my e-mails? Lyman Bohanan was a son of Betsey Anderson Bohanan and William Bohanan Jr. My gr.gr.gr. grandfather Ellis Bohanan was a brother to Lyman. I think it was Rueben Anderson or Joseph Anderson's testimony for the net proceed case that they made the statement. It was a shock to me becaue I have wondered many years too how Lyman fit in, now we know. So that would take your line back through William Bohannon Sr. and Choctaw wife and back through Daniel Anderson and Michou Jenny Battiest.
