Looking for birthdate and birthplace of my Grandmother's parents. My Grandmother is Jennie Grace Boice who married Charles Daniel Growcock in Omaha, Nebraska. All I have of her ancestry is an obit that lists parents as Tom and Sarah, two brothers, Burl and George and one sister as Mrs. Fred Growcock, no first name listed. My Grandmother received her teaching degree at Pontoosuc, Illinois. I believe Tom and Sarah may have been born in Illinois and lived there prior to moving to Nebraska.

BOICE, Jean Fennell

The Green Bay Press Gazette, Green Bay, WI, April 08, 2007

Jean Boice passed away peacefully Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Scandia Village, Sister Bay, Wis. She was born on Aug.17, 1913, in New Rochelle, N.Y., to Edward and Grace (Bowden) Fennell. She graduated from Briarcliff Women's School. In 1937, she married Hugh Kendall Boice Jr. at Quaker Ridge outside of New York City.

Because Hugh was an owner and executive in the radio and television business, the couple moved many times years during the course of their 46 year marriage. In 1947, Jean and Hugh moved to Milwaukee where they raised their two sons. In 1967, they moved to Green Bay. The family first visited Door County in 1953. Hugh and Jean became part- time residents in 1972, when they built a home near Juddville. Jean's ability to adapt, and her enjoyment of others proved that wherever they landed, she garnered friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Called "Birdie" by family and friends, Jean enjoyed the outdoors where she spent her time fishing, hunting, golfing, and bird watching. Her prowess as a cook and hostess was widely known and modeled by many. She had a strong, humble faith and was an active member of the Episcopal Church for most of her life. She had a distinctive affinity with birds, children, and dogs, and has been called an "other mother" by many younger adults who knew her well.

Jean is survived by sons, Hugh Kendall Boice III (Bonnie), Cleveland, Ohio; Edward Petrie Boice, Ellison Bay Wisconsin; and grandson, Orrin Kendall Boice, Los Angeles.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sister, Grace Curley; brother, Edward Fennell; and niece, Anne Curley Fassett.

Jean's grace, courage, compassion, and cheerfulness will continue to be a model for all she touched. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Christ the King — Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Scandia Village Sister Bay, Wis.

A memorial service is planned for August in Door County.

The family extends great appreciation for the kindness of care to Scandia Village, Unity Hospice, Reverend Barbara Sanja, and Casperson Funeral Home.
Isaiah Bartley "Bart" Boice (& vt. spellings)

Bart was born 1854 to Josiah & Margaret Louise Cotten Boice near Council Bluffs, Iowa and grew up in Blair Washington County Nebraska area and is in h/h of widowed father at 1870 census time. An undated photo of Bart was taken at "art studio of T. E. Johnson, Jr., Provo City, Utah" - Bart wearing moustache, clean shaven appears age twenties.
Reportedly Bart died "April 1, 1886 - Montana Territory" by family tradition. Can't find him on any census after 1870 Nebraska or census that would include of states that would have been part of Montana Territory at one time. Any one with info this individual? An oddity about this death information is that it was recorded in a journal of an aunt (by marriage) and this aunt lost to death (as recorded in her journal) 5 blood relatives between 1 April 1886 and Nov 1 1886 with no other info recorded. One would think this many deaths in that short a period of time and especially on the the first days of any month would cause more comment in a journal or in stories that would be passed on. Thanks for any input on this dilemna.

William F. Boice was killed in the South Pacific during World War ll and is buried in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. I am a retired American living in the Philippines. Recently my wife and I visited the Manila American Cemetery and the cold thought of families never being able to travel so far to visit their loved one bothered me. Since then I have taken a few photographs and attempted to unite the photos of the gravesites with the families. So far of the first photos I am pleased to announce there is one thrilled family in Gary, Indiana. Attached is a photograph of the cemetery. Please help me locate the family of William F. Boice.

T.R. Boice marriage to Mary Boice and ? Adoptions by T.R. Boice

Looking for Information...

My grandfather, Guy Boice, was adopted. On one of the documents the Mother's maiden name is "Orchard" but, I'm not sure if this is the biological mother or the adoptive mother.

My grandfather had a brother, Royal Boice and the birthplace and dates coincide of all documentation I have located on Royal Boice thus, I have concluded (maybe incorrectly) that Royal Boice's parents are the adoptive parents. Also, my oldest brother said that my great-great grandfather came from New York again, a match. The ?adoptive parents are:

T.R. Boice (but I don't know what the T.R. stands for), a farmer, who married Mary Boice (middle name unknown) and had 10 children but, I can only find 7 biological children so the other 3 might be adopted. Mary is 20 years younger than T.R. but the 1880 census clearly has her as wife and T.R. Boice as head of household. I found the Baptism record of one of their children, Hiram Boice, but the mother's name is not listed.

So, I am attempting to find the marriage certificate of Mary Boice and T.R. Boice so I know Mary's maiden name. I found a newspaper article from 1908 of a family reunion at the T.R. Boice home in Chickasaw, Iowa, but unfortunately did not reveal anything new it just confirmed all their children.

I have been unsuccessful in finding adoption records for my grandfather, Guy Boice. I would like to trace his roots once a last name is found.

Thus, the search continues. If anyone can assist please email me at:

greenemts@aol.com or emtparamedic6@hotmail.com

Thank you in advance

Boice/Boyce> PA/NY

Hello all, My name is Linda Fair and as all of you, I am tracing trying to trace my family>Not an easy thing! I am looking for a Clara Boice/Boyce, she was my Grandmother on my father's side. This was here maiden name. She was born in 1897, I believe. I seen in the 1920's census that she was born in PA, as were her parents. I do not know when her and my grandfather were married but, believe it was around 1917 to 1919. In the 1920 census in NY she was married to my grandfather and they had 1 child, my Aunt Jessie. They ended up with 2 girls and 2 boys. I can't find them anywhere after the 1920's census. Believe my grandfather died in 1929. Found 3 children living with the grandparents in 1930, still in NY. Clara went from Boice/Boyce to Fair and then to Barrett. Do know that she died in Chemung Co, NY in 1969. My father never knew her, he was told that she ran off and never came back. Would love to know anything about her and her family. Thanks

I'm looking for information on my g-g-grandparents, George W. Funk and Catherine Emoline Boice who came from the area of
Germantown, Columbia County, NY. I don't have any other birth / death data but I do know they were parents of my g-grandfather Gilbert Funk who was born November 27, 1868 and died January 31, 1960. Gilbert married my g-grandmother Ella Decker on January 11, 1890 in Germantown, Columbia County, NY.

Any leads you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I am researching, with absolutely no luck at all, Sarah McLeon Boice (my ggg-grandparents) who married Edmund Pitt Tileston in Dorchester, MA. October 23, 1825. I have been unable to locate her parents at all.

It is possible her maiden name is McLeon and she married a Boice first and then her second marriage was to a Tileston, however I have been unable to find any records except her marriage to Edmund and her childrens births.. in these particular records she is called Sarah McLeon and/or Sarah McLeon Boise (Dorchester VR) Does anyone out there have her in their line who can lead me in the right direction?

Thanks
Pat Thayer
