My Great Grandfather was John Gideon Boiles/ Boyles. I think it was originally Boiles, but I know that my Grandfather George changed the spelling from Boiles to Boyles when they lived in Baylor County Texas because of a mail mixup... So I guess your Daniel and my George were Brothers ... Janie .. <a href="mailto://catcarson@xanadoo.com">catcarson@xanadoo.com</a>

I'm curious if my ancestors are the same as everyone else who keeps spelling the last name as 'Boiles.' I have a census record in which Daniel L. (whose father is John Gideon Boyles) and Alice (Daniel's wife), and children list their last name as 'Boyles.'

My grandmother was Lula Permelia Boiles. Not sure if it is the same person you are speaking of. Her maiden name was Brown. She married William Lafayette Boiles. She lived from sometime in 1880's until about 1930. She was a very petite pretty lady, around 4'11" and 95-100 lbs. She was originally from Tennessee, but moved to Western Kentucky when she was about 20 years old.

Great Grandpa Aaron and Great Grandma Maude Boiles of Ada

I am posting from Montreal. Aaron and Maude of Ada, Oklahoma were my great grandparents. Genevieve and Vivianna my twin daughters also live in Montreal, my sister Paloma lives in Chicago. Recently David Boiles my father's 1st cousin contacted me to let me know that his grandparents were Aaron and Maude. I was happy to hear from David. He is related to all my Ada family! I would appreciate more info on the Boiles family tree. I do not understand where Alice fits in or who John Gideon or Daniel are. It caught my attention that in one of the threads here, my grandmother was mentioned. Her name was Pearl Webb Boiles wife to Charles L. Boiles, (my grandfather),or Dutch as many people knew him. The origin of the Boiles name is still of interest to me. Although, Lafette may be thought to be a French name by many, I know for a fact that the name Lafayette is a very old French name. Is Boiles shortened from Boileau or Boileseve, or what, I still do not know and would like to. There are over 100 Boileau in the Montreal phone book, (Montreal,Quebec is a province in Canada and its 1st official language is French), and we in Montreal or Chicago and in Ada are not related to them. Thank you for your attention.

Boiles in Oklahoma, Texas, Chicago, (U.S.A.), Montreal (Canada)

I am most assuredly related to these families. Still I have found no definite trace of a Boiles family Tree to which my great grandfather who lived in Ada, Oklahoma and was named Charles Lafayette Boiles is connected to or a branch off. I know his wife's name was Maude and that they had 4 or 5 sons. I do remember visiting my great grandfather and great grandmother while they were still living in Ada, Okla. in their home. I remember that my grandfather whom also was named Charles Lafayette Boiles and nicknamed "Dutch", (by friends and community), had a brother named Damien and a brother who lived in a nearby town called Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. I also remember my own father Charles Lafayette Boiles JR. having a 1st cousin who had moved to Florida, I believe his name was Gene Nelson Boiles which is not to be confused with my father's brother Eugene or Gene Boiles of Ada, Okla. I wish I could remember my great grandfather's other son's names. The origin of the family surname has always been a source of mystery and frustration for me. There do not seem to be that many people that use this surname out there. Also, it would be great to see if the Boiles family tree is one singular tree with many known and unknown branches or if there are separate family trees. For example: the surnames Smith or Jones originate from more than one family tree. Hoping to get some feed-back on my Boiles family tree of which I know exists here in Montreal, Chicago, Texas, and Oklahoma for sure. Further, it would be wonderful to find if the surname is the actual original or shortened from a previous French name. I add this as an important note; because why is there an apparent insistence, (for 3 generations of Charles Lafayette Boiles). The 2 first and middle names can most certainly be seen as French names: Charles Lafayette and then Boiles. So what is the surname's origin. Thank you for any interest or information or feedback on this.

Re: Mary Ann Cook md. John Gideon Boiles

Jeraline Boiles Dunn gave me a picture of James Lafette Boiles. And his name is spelled Lafette on the back of the picture. She took me to the Fort Graham cemetery overlooking Lake Whitney and showed me the site of the old home place there. His oldest son who was my grandpa ran off to OK so Burleson took care of James Lafette in his home near Lake Whitney. They had a sister named Ora, you can see her headstone at the Fort Graham cemetery and also two more brothers: Marsh and Benjamin who was called Bennie. I posted this picture of the old home place on Saline Pioneer Families. You can see Delilah and JL in the picture, also Bennie and Aaron who was the oldest born in 1880. He got married in Indian Territory (OK). He was a 32nd degree mason and worked for years for Wilson meat packing company per Uncle Damon. He was also an elected judge. He loved to move lots just like John Gideon Boiles did. My father said they had to move all over OK and he got tired of it but then Dad joined the Army Air Corp and moved us all over the place too. (very restless) I have a letter that Aunt Pearl Webb Boiles wrote about M. Delilah Holley Roberts (or Robinson) Boiles that she came to TX from TN and the train was robbed by Jesse James and she saw him counting his money by a campfire! She did lots of research. When I met Jeraline who was born about 13 June 1903 she told me that Delilah was called Grandma Molly Holley. Jeraline wrote me for several years. She was an artist like me. She was the oldest daughter of Burleson the second son. Her youngert brother was still alive in San Antonio last I heard. <br> Well, hope my ramblings are of interest to someone. That is all I can remember for now.<br>Alice Boiles

I am trying hard to figure out which side it came down. My mother's ferritin in only 14 so she doesn't have it but might be a carrier. Soon we will be doing genealogy by genetics. I donated some of my saliva to the cause. Its free, they even pay the shipping. <br> As you now know I knew Uncle Dutch well, he was a saint IMO. <br>Alice

Rebecca: Wondered if in the intervening few years you have learned more about Daniel Boiles of Hill County, TX. My g.g.g.grandmother's sister was Nancy MacKey, who first married a Boiles, then Augustus Foreman. Nancy had a child, Amanda, by her Boiles marriage. Because of the proximity of their land holdings (near present-day Whitney in Hill County), I believe the Boiles that Nancy married c. 1847-1848 had to be related to John G. Boiles or Daniel Boiles - I'm thinking she may have married one of Daniel's sons??<br><br>Deven Lewis

There were two sets of twins you are correct.<br>In fact, somewhere along the line I recall<br>triplets (must be Stapler side). I know I'm<br>doomed whenever I have kids. I remember "Red"<br>vaguely at the family reunions. The name<br>Tommy comes to mind.

My mother is a Boiles. Her name is Opal Elmary Boiles Long. Her father was Willie Aquilla Boiles. He was born Aug. 10, 1878. He was born in Williamson County, Texas. He married Millie Pearl Mayhall who was born Dec. 24, 1886. Besides my mother, there were 4 sisters...Bertha Maud Boiles, Johnnie Dee Boiles, Naomia RosieLee Boiles and Verna Lee Boiles. There were 3 brothers...Elmer Virgil Boiles, Albert Leroy Boiles and Henry Eugene Boiles. I have been trying to explore this further but because the records I have are so old and repetitious, I am having to piece things together. Willie's father was Holly Boiles and his mother was Minnie Gibbs. Their childred were Retiss, Otis, Ora, Jessie Leah, Truman, Eddie, Velma, Jerry, Holly B., Ollie D. and Dorthy. Otis and Holly B. were twins. My records all indicate that this Boiles family had mostly Texas connections. But, I have found some indication of Alabama Connections. Maybe this will help you. If you have any information for me, please email me. Thanks...Joyce

Yes, I suspect his father is named Daniel also. I also found some Revolutionary War Records in the genealogy library in Albuquerque that there were about 12 Boiles families involved at that time. There was a Daniel there too! I was very excited and sure hope to find a good link.
