Do you happen to know the name of his daughter in Jamaica or his third wife?....I'm looking up information on a Zillah Virginia Boland, She was married and lived in Westmoreland, Jamaica, West Indies around early 1900's I'm guessing she was probably born around 1899-1901 due to her first child being born in 1918.

Attempting to find the connection between John Boland Thayer who was lost in the April 14, 1912 Titantic tragedy and my Thayer line. I believe both lines share Ferdinando Thayer, from England in the 1600's. Ferdinando was the first settler on the land that later became Mendon, Massachusetts. Thank you!

That James is not of my family, but I did track him for a bit. You're right about the address though, he lived there for several years:

I had found him in the 1900 census at some point, too, hoping he was "my" James but eventually ruled him out.

1885	The Trow City Directory Company	Boland	James	1157 Second	Candy
1886	The Trow City Directory Company	Boland	James	1157 Second	Candy
1887	The Trow City Directory Company	Boland	James	1157 Second	Varieties
1888	The Trow City Directory Company	Boland	James	1157 Second	Candy
1889	The Trow City Directory Company	Boland	James	1157 Second	Stationer
1890	The Trow City Directory Company	Boland	James	1157 Second	Stationer
1891	The Trow City Directory Company	Boland	Jas	1147 Second	Stationer
1892	Trow Directory Printing and Bookbinding Company	Boland	Jas	1157 Second	Stationer
1893	Trow Directory Printing and Bookbinding Company	Boland	Jas	1157 Second	Candy
1894	Trow Directory Printing and Bookbinding Company	Boland	Jas	1157 Second	Stationer
1895	Trow Directory Printing and Bookbinding Company	Boland	Jas	1157 Second	Stationer
1897	Trow Directory Printing and Bookbinding Company	Boland	James	1157 Second	Stationer
1898	Trow Directory Printing and Bookbinding Company	Boland	James	1157 Second	Varieties
1900	Trow Directory Printing and Bookbinding Company	Boland	James	1157 Second	Stationer
I started this project over a year ago and am not sure where all my notes are, but the James Boland I am referencing is *possibly* my GGgrand father, Irish born about Oct 1858, brother to Phillip, Roderick (b. 1844), Mary (b 1854), and Ellen (b 1860).
If this is the right James Boland, he was father to James Vincent Boland(b1888), my Ggrand father.

one address i saw pop up repeatedly is 1157 or poss 1151 2nd ave(1900 census). Also, on the 1930 census, 4511 40th st James Vincent & wife florence and 2 sons james j(b1913) (my grand father)and joseph e(b1920)..

the 1870 census shows a John Boland and wife Bridget with 6 kids including a James, age 12 of irish birth.. but no kids named roderick or phillip..

The problem is there are several James Bolands and possibly 2 born in or around the same year (1858ish) but of different families(one citizen, one immigrant), and the vast majority of the tree is built from records found here, not from family members info.

i need to figure out how to manage and weed through the information better..

Cccerberus: there could be a connection. I have tracked the Bolands a bit farther since writing that message several years ago but James and his two brothers have continued to evade me. Of the one you're searching, do you have any addresses where he may have lived? I have a lot of vital records that I have pulled in the NY archives on this surname and may be able to assist.

I know st least one married a Margaret.

Looking for information on the Boland family from Mitchelstown in County Cork, Ireland. Great granfather was William born in 1871. 5 brothers came to US - John, Patrick, Thomas and Peter. One may have gone into the priesthood. Also, looking for relatives of Patrick Lyons born in 1856 and possibly emigrated in 1864. Married Alice Harrigan. Daughter was Mary, although I don't think she was their "blood" relative. All of the above settled in Connecticut. Am travelling to Ireland soon and would any add'l info would be helpful. Lost the trail once they emigrated to US.

Thanks for the reply, I just thought if there was any connection, i could get this old book to the family if they wanted it. It does say "Larence Boland born 18th of May 1849" and the writing is kind of fancy. It also mentions"Henry" but the last name is not complete, it starts with Foll...born in June maybe 1869.
Anyway, just a thought, I'm really not even sure he was a priest, maybe it was just a family member writing dates in this prayer book that seemed to belong to a priest.
Gloria.

My GG-grandfather was Lawrence Boland of Troy NY. He was from Co. Westmeath Ireland and had several brothers. In the 1820s tithes, Lawrence's father Patrick was listed in Ballymore in Co. Westmeath, and there was one other Boland in Ballymore, a Henry Boland also. Lawrence lived 1835-1909. Lawrence was not a priest however. Lawrence migrated as a boy in 1847 to Troy NY with his brother Bernard. Lawrence parents were Patrick Boland and Katy Kelley. There were a few other Lawrence Bolands around the northeast US however. One in Ontario, One near Syracuse. Best, Michael

Mercy Boland Beecher, d. 1903 Kearney, Nebraska

Kearney Daily Hub, May 26, 1903, pg 2

"OBITUARY: MERCY A. BEECHER
Tribute to the Blessed Memory of a Christian Woman
Funeral services for the late Mercy A. Beecher were held on Monday afternoon in the Baptist church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. H. C. First. The church was literally banked with the most beautiful floral offerings, a tender and beautiful tribute showing the high esteem in which Mrs. Beecher was held in the community. The service was simple and beautiful, from the most appropriate text, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth; yea saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."

Obituary
Mercy Ann Boland, daughter of P. D. Boland and Lucinda L. (Allen) Boland, was born in Parisville, N. Y., March 10, 1837. At the age of twelve years she was converted and united with the Baptist church of Parisville, during the pastorate of the Rev. Mr. Maxley.
September 24, 1857, she was married to Mr. B. J. Beecher. Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Beecher came west to Galva, Ill., where they made their home for a number of years, and where four children, two sons and two daughters were born to them. In 1888 they removed to Kearney, Neb., where Mr. Beecher die in March, 1888, and where the subject of this sketch lived until called up higher Sunday morning, May 24.
For several years Mrs. Beecher had heart trouble and during the past two years had been practically an invalid, though seldom confined long to her bed. Only the day before her
death she sat on the porch for hours and went to the table for her supper. At six o'clock the following morning she quietly passed from earth to heaven.
For fifty-four years Mrs. Beecher was a most faithful and consistent member of the Baptist church. She was a woman of remarkable faith and of unfaltering loyalty to the God whom she loved to serve. Quiet, unostentations and reserved in manner, but strong and beautiful of character, hands never idle, a heart brave and true always, she was a constant inspiriation to her pastor, and the silent influence for good wrought upon those who knew her in her life can only be known in eternity. Mrs. Beecher's children all survive her, and all save the elder son, Howard Beecher of Peoria, Ill., are residents of this city. Rev. Allen Beecher is rector of the Episcopal church; Rosa, the elder daughter, is the wife of Mrs. John Wilson of this city; and Miss Mittie is a teacher in the public schools. In their bereavement the family has the deepest sympathy of the enitre community."
Martha Boland

Looking for any information on a Martha Boland. We think she was born in 1864 as long as her marriage certificate was correct. I have nothing except she married my great grandpa William Marion Henderson on November 8 1883 in Conway County Arkansas. She lived in Solgohachia AR or that is what is on the marriage certificate. They had one daughter(my granny) Minnie Evelena Henderson on July 24 1885. No one knows what happened to her, an older aunt before she passed thought she had seen her in Texas. Would like any information at all on her. I also found out she had a sister named Molly and a cousin named Edna and I think they lived in California. Thanks for any help at all.

A daughter of the late George P. and Katherine Reddington Boland, Sister Rosemary entered the Congregation from St. Veronica Parish in Ambridge. Sister ministered as a teacher in the Pittsburgh, Greensburg and Altoona-Johnstown dioceses for more than 30 years. She taught for 16 years in the elementary school before serving as a high school music teacher at Bishop McCort High School, Johnstown, from 1959-1968; Bishop Carroll High School, Ebensburg, from 1968-72; and Quigley High School, Baden, from 1972-75. Sister Rosemary had a love for music, and many high school musicals were produced through her tireless efforts. After attending St. Louis University, Sister worked as pastoral minister at East End Cooperative Ministries, Pittsburgh, and Sequoia Residence in San Francisco, Calif. Her concern and care for others was most evident as she ministered as a personal caregiver at Action Inc. of Gloucester, Rockport, Mass., from 1983-1997, and also as home caregiver in Seal Beach, Calif., from 1997 until her own health began to decline. Sister is survived by two sisters, Kathryn Hamilton, of Seal Beach, Calif., and Georgeann Ursprung, of Seattle, Wash.; nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews; a cousin, Sister Winifred Reddington, a Sister of St. Joseph; and all the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden. A town or village of Clare. Not County Clare. My son took me to Ireland last summer and I was always search for Frank Boland I thought they were from the Sligo area. I spent 3 days there. The ladies there told me that many Boland's also came from Clare. My email address is emeraldboann@yahoo.com. I would love to hear from you, Vicki

Boland was a significant name in Scranton, PA, which was a gateway eventually to other areas since it became a major railroad center. My own family father went to DePew, NY. The whole Lackawanna Steel Company went from Scranton to the same area when the cost of iron ore shipping would cut out the cost of transfer to rail and shipping. A Peter J.Boland was an assistant priest at St. Peter's Cathedral and married my grandparents Patrick F. Godwin and Annie A. Kelly in 1898. Both families came from Donegal. Later my father was a "homeboy" in the Boland family on Irish Hill in Warren Township, Bradford County, PA.

I realize this post is really old, but hopefully you all are still out there. I am researching a Patrick (b: 1824)and Honora Dwyer (b:1836)from Ireland who ended up in Indiana. THe Honora/Dwyer/Indiana connection is interesting. Have you found out anymore?

They are my husband's gggrandparents. I don't know if they married in Ireland or Indiana or somewhere else. They began having children in 1861 in Indiana. 10 kids from what I gather: Charles, William, Julia, James, Frank, jennie, Maggie, Richard, Patrick Albert, and Harry Ambrose.

Conrad Boland was my great, great Grandfather. He was born in northern Hessen (kurhessen) in what today is Kassel Germany. He married Catherine "Winnie" Weimer on 20 Jun 1837 in Pensylvania. Lewis was one of their children. Catherine died in 1857 and Conrad married Sarah Stambaugh on 12 Apr 1860. His son Lewis was my gradfather, Joseph Bernarad Bolan's father. Joseph and Emma (grandma)lived in Lincoln, Nebraska. My grandfather Joseph decided to drop the "d" and we became the Bolan's. I can see from info on the ships manifest that Conrad was with his parents in 1837, but I haven't been able to find out any information on who his parents were. If you have any info I would be happy if you could share it.
