Henry Bolinger, born 1799 in Dauphin County, PA. Appears to be the end of line. No full name nor parent info. Would love to trace it back to Europe. I will look into DNA thing one of these days.

Take care.

Thanks anyway.

Interesting though. My brother is William Henry Bolinger, and both William and Henry names show up several times in my line.

By the way, has anyone (male) in your family had a genealogy DNA test? I did at familytreedna.com, but so far no decent matches. I would like to encourage you to do so if at all possible. It may show that our lines are connected somewhere in the past and solve our 'roadblock' problem.

I don't think so. Henry married Mary Magdelene Carmoney around 1818 in Dauphin County PA. They had 8 children, some were born in PA, some Ohio. They eventually settled in Huntington County, Indiana. John H. Bolinger, the line that I am a descendant from, was their second oldest son.
John H. Bolinger/Martha Leonard chidren are as follows.....

Augustus Bolinger,
William Henry Bolinger,
David A Bolinger,
Byron Bolinger,
Ellie Bolinger,
Charles Bolinger,
Leander Franklin Bolinger,

Byron was my GG grandfather

Thanks for the response.

My GGG-grandfather was Nicholas Bolinger b 1780 in PA married first Margaret Snyder/Snider. He had a son John b 1810 in PA married Elizabeth Shong. Both John and Nicholas then moved to OH before 1817. John later moved to IN between 1836 and 1850. John had a son Henry b 1836 in Ohio who also married an Elizabeth and later moved to IL.

My GG-grandfather was Peter Bolinger b 1823 in Ohio married, in turn, Lydia Ann Robinson, Caroline Cragle, Catherine Eva Zentner (my gg-grandmother), and Mary Saylor.

Any connection? I have been unable to find any information farther back that Nicholas.

Jim

My grandmother's parents were Mischael Pugh Diddle and Ann Eliz Bolinger. b 1819 in Botetourt County VA. Her parents were William E. Bolinger, b 1776, and Rebecca Shearer, b 1778-79. They came to Monroe County Va fromBotetourt Co., VA about 1824. Their children were Philip m 1830. John m 1832, Caterine m 1839, Mary Jane m 1843, Ann Eliza m 1845. The above marriages are proved.

My Grandmother always thought that her mother said the Bolingers and Shearers were from Lancaster Co., PA but the 1850 census says they were born in Virginia.

Rebecca died at age 94 and William at age 104. At 97 he was healthy and walked a mile into town to get the paper (Border Watchman of Union, WV, Vol 1, No 2, Feb 8, 1872))

Opal Bolinger was born 27 February 1913, in Williamson, Illinois. She died Opal Bolinger Hand on 7 January 1994, in Michigan. She gave birth to a child (Betty Rose), on 29 January 1929, in Marion, Illinois. She married Everett Hand on 12 July 1933. She had 3 more children with Everett. I have the most amount of info on Opal. The following is all I have on her siblings.

Imogene was born sometime between 1914 and 1920, these dates are just an estimate, of course, as I can find no records for her. My mother has told me that she died young, around mid 40's, with a brain tumor. She is not sure if she married or had children.

Mildred is thought to be the youngest girl, born somewhere at or around 1920. Again, I have found no records for her either.

There were also 2 boys in this family, JD and Uwell (pronounced yule). I have no info on them at all except that JD might have been in the military at one time.

Their parents names were James and Eva(Nicholson)Bolinger.

Any info that anyone has would be greatly appreciated, also if anyone else is researching this family, I would be happy to share any info I have as well. Thanks!

I hadn't found much more on the William and Rebecca; I I hit somewhat of a brick wall at the time and hadn't found much else since then.

One thing; probably not overly helpful. But I believe I found William and his wife on the 1870 census in Union City, Monroe, West Virginia, USA. Living in their household is a Lucy Bolinger. That might be Philip Bolinger's daughter Lucinda Catherine Bolinger (who I believe married John Conover). He's indexed under William Bollinger on ancestry on the 1870 census.

I'd love to hear what you found in your files.

Karl

Am interested whether or not you found any more info William & Rebecca Bolinger. I did go to W. Virginia and spent some time in the archives. I also think that James, John and Philip were brothers. Marriage records show that William's signature is on at least one (Will have to dig through my records as I did make copies while I was there). Philip's name is on (I think, John's and perhaps James' (Monroe COunty). Will check and get back with you. Found a few land records, not many, though.

As far as I know, there is no Elizabeth Bolinger related to either by great grandfather, Simon or his brother Jacob. This family came to the US in 1852 with four sons and four daughters. Perhaps one of them had a daughter Elizabeth. I only know of my great grandfathers children and one of his brothers, Jacob's children. (no Elizabeth there) Some of Jacobs children were born in Kansas between 1880-1898. Hope that this can be helpful.

Their parents had ten children, My Simon was the fourth born, along with his twin, who was stillborn and your Jacob was the ninth born on 9/26/1850. Do you have any info. on where they landed? Which port? I agree that Jacobs children were born in Kansas, some in Dubugue, Holyroad and Ellsworth is that what you have? Let me know and where do you live? I am in California.

Patty, My Jacob Bolinger (bro of Simon) was born in the Canton of Schaffhausen, Switz. on Sept 26, 1850 therefore a bit younger than your Jacob. Maybe they were cousins? My Jacob's parents were Johannes and Agnes Schwyn. They had ten children. My Jacob had three children at least that were born
in Kansas. Their first four children were born in Authur, Ill. Jacob married Rosa Bell Hughes. Good luck and Merry Christmas.
