I see that you have Lorenzo Dow Bolling as your grandfather. If it's the same Lorenzo Dow that I have in my tree then he was born as Lorenzo Dow Worrell. His father, Wesley J Worrell, died when he was quite young and the Samuel Bolling family of Perry County, Alabama took him in and he later adopted the Bolling name.

Wesley J Worrell was my great grandfather and, based on the 1930 census, Lorenzo must have been the child of his third marriage to Samantha Jane Smith (adopted name was Moon). My great grandmother was Wesley J's first wife, Catherine Dunkin. They are all from Perry County, Alabama. I had my brother to do the Y-DNA test for our Worrell side of the family so if you ever take the test and we are from the same famiy then your DNA and my brother's should come up as a match since male DNA changes very, very little from father to son.

Lorenzo Dow is to be found on the 1880 census listed as a name that looks to be "Howen" Worlds. He's living with S.M. (Samuel Milton) Bolling and Nancy A (Dobynes) Bolling and their children.

Later Lorenzo married Alice ?, but I haven't looked her maiden name. It seems that they moved to Mississippi between 1910 and 1930.

Lee (Worrell) Hermes
leehermes@bellsouth.net

My Mother's Grandfather was Johann Dietrich Bolling of Fayette Co. Texas. J.D. Bolling was the son of Mary Catherine (Bolling) Meyer. He was born to her in Oldenberg Germany, by a man to whom she was not married. Mary Catherine Bolling Meyer was the first Bolling in the US.

We also have Oedings in our tree. I have it on paper, but not in the computer. Hopefully, I'll figure out how.

Regards,

Elizabeth

Oh, my goodness! We are Davenports and have for GENERATIONS claimed Pocahontas as our ancestor based on this William Bolling-Amelia Randolph union. So now I am to understand that Samuel Bolling made up these 2 people???? You mean no William Bolling died in the American Revolution in 1776? Amelia Randolph was not the daughter of Richard Randolph and Anne Meade?? I am dumb-founded! So who exactly were Samuel Bolling's parents? His father was called William Bolling but his dates are not 1731-1776 and he was from Orange County, VA, right? So what were his real dates and who was the mother? I am just in total shock! When my family finds out they are giong to be in total disbelief, as am I. Clydia Davenport

blue bolling ancestors?

If their ancestors aren't Pocahontas and John Rolfe, where did they come from?

My great-grandmother was Lilly Mae Bolling, her father was Marion Francis Bolling. From what little research I've done, his father was Enoch Wesley Bolling who was the son of John Bolling and Mary Tarpley and that's where I stop because William Bolling and Amelia Randolph aren't supposed to exist...

It doesn't matter to me whether I'm descended from Pocahontas or not. I care very much about truth. I'm not going to perpetuate a lie to make me feel better because it usually ends up hurting people in the end.

So where do I come from? :D

Tracking my family history back to Pocahontas was fairly easy. I went to rootsweb and typed in my father's name. When it came up, I hit the parents link and it went back to his father, then I hit the parents link for his father and it went back to his father's father. After going back 13 generations, I finally hit Pocahontas, thereby establishing my direct ancestory. It is too difficult trying to trace starting with Pocahontas. This other way only took me about 30 minutes. Be sure to print each new page when it comes up as it is much easier to recreate later.

Thank you for your response. I tried to send this answer to you directly but it bounced back so I am responding here. I have found out that Callie WILLIAMS b 5 Mar 1874 d 17 Mar 1961 married Alexander Moseley BOLLING and after he died she married John Benjamin TAGGART. I have that she was a daughter of William WILLIAMS and Emily Jane GUTHRIE. And that is where I connect. Emily Jane GUTHRIE was a daughter of John GUTHRIE and Elizabeth AYRES. I descend from them via their daughter, Nancy Catherine GUTHRIE (sister to Emily Jane GUTHRIE) who married Willis Wade NEWTON. Nancy Catherine GUTHRIE & Willis Wade NEWTON were my great grandparents. Any information on any of these families will be greatly appreciated.

I need to know the parents of (or any info you may have on) Richard Hausber Bolling/Bowling of York County, VA (1832-1871) m. Lavinia Anne Russell (1844-1916) of Poquoson, VA. They were married in York County on November 12, 1863. The Bollings had their roots in the state of Virginia. The paternal roots extended along the eastern side in Prince George and York Counties and in Hampton. The maternal roots were deep in the rugged country in and around Staunton, VA.

Richard H. Bolling son was the Reverend Richard H. Bowling (1864-1913). His grandson was the Reverend Richard H. Bowling, III (Jr.) 1891 -1961 pastor of two Baptist churches in Virginia, 1885-1887, and for two years at First Baptist Church in Steelton, PA. He was then the pastorate of First Baptist Church, Bute Street, Norfolk, VA (1890-1913).
Hello again GA;
I was mistaken with my recent reply. I have taken a closer look at my previous research and I believe you are right. The Elijah on the 1880 Census is My GGrandfather. Now, I have to figure out, who the Alsie, Samuel, Mary, Wiley and Frankie are. This is making a lot of sense to me now.
A little history is that the Bowling, Bollins married into the Row,Walters families from Magoffin co. and I had often wondered how in the world did the two families get together. My Grandmother was the grand daughter of Alexander Row from Magoffin co. We knew absolutely nothing about her, not even who her mother was. But with consistant research, I am happy to say that we have a history now of many generations. Hopefully this will end with the same result.
I was born and raised in Perry co. Ky and moved to Wolfe co. Ky not knowing anyone here or that anyone in the family history came from this area. Thus far I have located so many family graves nearby where I live, Two of my GGG grandparents graves are within 5 miles of my home. Getting a little spooky, Ha Ha!
You have certainly be so very helpful. It is so very kind of you to research this. Thank you so much! May I ask if you are connected to the Bowling, Bollin family?
Connie sue Bowling Rice

Gaframer,Thank you for your help. That is the path that I have traveled also except When I found them in Magoffin co. I wondered if I was on the right path. I remmembered my father saying that he had an aunt "annie" and referred to her as being related to his father, WP or William P. Bowings relative. Also, I notice that in several census of William P. their is an older man "Rober Bollin or Bowling" living nearby, which makes me think he is related. So, now I am wondering if I am actually following the right Sam Bollin. Dad alway said his grandfathers name was Elijah S. Bowling, the s. standing for Samuel. I am unable to locate an Elijah S. Thank you so very much. Looks like this going to take some back tracking.
Connie Sue Bowling Rice
connie sue b

Debbie, Hi; No I cannot connect the names. Most of my research is leading me into Wise co, virginia and N. Carolina. Then into Letcher co, ky and the Magoffin, Morgan co. area of Ky. I am digging deeper, and deeper, finding new evidence of relatives frequently. If your names appears, I will gladly contact you. I posted back in 2005 looking for a grandmother's history and who was her mother. I now have that information, which led me to a whole other family. Now I am looking for the brothers and sisters of william P. Bowling AKA Wp Bowling. Exciting isn't it.
Good luck

DNA for the females in the Bowling/Bolling/Bollin line

My family line is suppose to come down through Justice Bowling. I would like to obtain informatin regarding the process of females having the DNA done for a lineage to the Bowling family. Have had different opinions on this matter. Want facts. My brothers will not do the DNA, so I will do this. Do I need a male in the family to do DNA also before I can. I have a son that possibly will have it done.
I am told that there is only one Bowling family in Ky that actually links to Pocohantos and they are in Boyld Co. Ky
Can anyone shed some light on this:
Thanks
CSBowlingRice

My father had a half sister names Frances and a half brother named Cecil.
My father's mother was Jennie Holloway, while Frances and Cecil's mother's name was J. Rowena Dunning. There are still quite a few members of this family in Texas. Any relation to your kin?

I have hazy remembrances of Great Uncle Dewey. I was born in 1946 and grew up in Sapulpa. In the 1950s I can remember a couple of trips to Buffalo to visit relatives. Amanda Bolling, or Granner as she was called, lived with Roy and Iva near Haskell and then Skiatook. Iva died of cancer when I was 9 or 10 and Granner died a few months later at age 94. Roy lived to about 86.

Their daughter Iva (not Eva) married Roy David Miller and they moved to Oklahoma Territory in 1904. My father, Chester, was born in Stillwater OK in 1905, the eldest of 7 children. Amanda Bolling lived with Roy and Iva in Skiatook, Oklahoma when she died in about 1955.

The majority of my family had lived in Erath County my whole life. My fathers name is Lewis W Bolling and was born and raised in this area. Do you have any clues as to where in Texas your ancestor moved to? Don't know if a picture will help but I will attach some photos of my dad, myself and my uncle Richard and see if you can see any family resemblence. BTW does anyone in your family have freckles lol..seems to be a family trait with us. :)

Connie; My apologies for taking so long. I saw your original posts back in 2005 but it's taken this long to put all the pieces together. This may take more than 1 post, bear with me. I concur with your outline of your family tree. I start with Justice Bolling and Martha Baker; then Andrew Luscious and Temperance Johnson; possible/accepted kids:Rebecca; William; Andrew Jr; Lucy; James Madison; Thomas; Rhoda; Eli; and Samuel.
Samuel first shows up by name in 1850 census in district 31, Lee Co, VA in brother Eli's household. He is listed as Samuel Bowlin, 28, b in NC. He follows his mother Temperance and is followed by a John, 9, b in Tennessee, ?son; no wife listed. In 1860 he is listed in Scott Co, VA: Samuel Bolin, 38, NC, blacksmith; Lydia, 38, VA; Mary A, 14, VA; Rody A, 12, VA; Lydia, 8, VA; Lettie A, 6, VA; Elijah E, 3, VA; and Not(f), 1, VA. One might guess that at least Mary and Rody are step daughters. In 1870 Samuel is in Magoffin Co, KY: Saml Bolin, 50,blacksmith, NC; Tabitha, 30, VA; Elijah E, 12, VA; Nancy, 9, VA; Salena, 5, KY; Amanda, 2, KY. John is also in Magoffin. In 1880 Samuel is in Menifee Co, KY: Samuel J Bowling,58, farmer, NC; Tabitha, 43; Selina, 14; Mandy, 12; Sallie, 9, KY; Fanny, 7, KY; Samuel J, 4, KY. I believe Elijah is on the 1880 census in Magoffin. He is listed in the Household of Samuel Collinsworth, son of John and Nancy Hale Collinsworth. John and Nancy do not have a son Elijah. Next door is William and Louisa Collinsworth. They do not have an Elijah either. The next entry is Abner Salyer. Elijah's entry is Elijah, 25, KY,VA,VA; Alsie, 23, KY,VA,VA; Samuel, 10, KY; Mary, 8, KY; Wiley, 4, KY; Frankie(f), 1, KY. Hope this helps.

You are more than welcome. On that 1880 census I believe that 'Alsie' is your ggrandmother Sarah Walters. Maybe the census taker heard 'Sallie' and wrote something else, he was obviously having a bad day anyway. Sarah and Elijah were married in May 1876 in Magoffin Co. And that would make 'Willie' William Pearson, your grandfather. You and my wife are 5th cousins.
Donald

I am looking for information on my great grandmother's Virginia Lucille Bolling's parents. She was born about 1821 in Virginia. Married James Henry Potts 1839 in Marshall County Mississippi and lived the rest of her life in Tennessee and passed away in 1897.

I don't find these names among my data. You might try the Bolling Family Association at: http://www.bolling.net/
They have an extensive database.

My ancestor, John Alexander Bolling (1803-1900) was born in VA and moved to Jackson Co., TX via MS. They had a ranch near Edna, TX. He had 3 sons (Thomas, John) and a daughter (Margaret Ann) who produced descendants. I believe the sons' families are still in TX, although when Margaret married, she moved back to VA. I don't have any Lewis' but do have a number of Richards. Let me know if this rings any bells.
