I have the bolling genealogy book. I am turning it into an electroinc family tree. If anybody needs info, please feel free to e-mail me. I am about 1 percent done(About 110 people so far). I am calculating that their are about 4000 people in the book. It has not been updated since the early 70's though. If any body has info that they would like int the family tree please send it. I am going to try to make it as large as possible. It would be nice to have it as the most complete family tree in the world.

Thanks,
Jeremy Leesmann

need help finding info on Tolly Ray Bolling, Sr.

Hi,
I'm trying to help my friend find information about his father and his father's ancestors. His father is named Tolly R. Bolling Sr., we're guessing he was born 1915 to 1925, he served in the US Army during WWII. Tolly Jr. was born in 1945 in Penn. We think Tolly Sr. was born in Kentucky and that his mother lived/lives in W. Va.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Grover
woodgc@gforcecable.com

Bolling-Lewis Marriage Crawford County AR & Whittier CA

I found a 1937 letter to my grandfather in Watts,OK from a Mamie Lewis Bolling in Whittier CA. She is married to a Con(Conrad?) and she is the daughter of Martha Jane (Kennedy?) and William(Bill) Lewis who I think was a tenant farmer near Van Buren. She mentions (sisters?) Bessie in Van Buren and Ida in Mountainburg. Does any Bolling researcher know about this family?

BIG Bolling Problem

I am having a big Bolling problem. I am descended from Katherine Bolling (176-1850 m. Wiley Horton, John Amis, and Robert Baker).

I have her father as James Bolling b. 1756 and mother Sarah Blevins. I have always found James' father to be John Bolling (b. abt 1700) and mother Mary Blair.

However, after looking at the DNA testing, there seems to be an issue with James being from this line.

I am also now finding him to have but one brother: Rev. Jesse Bolling. He married Mary Pennington. However, I also have a lot of evidence of Jesse being the son of Benjamin Bolling and Patsy Felts. Benjamin did have a son named James. But John did not have a son named Jesse.

Do I and a lot of other researchers have the wrong father for James or Jesse? And Benjamin is the son of John Bolling b. 1700, so if that is *his* father, then he can't be the father of James if this DNA test is accurate.

http://www.bolling.net/bfa_dna_participants.htm

I seek information on the married name and details of Mary Collins, b 1827, Achonry, Sligo, Ireland, daughter of Michael Collins and Catherine Davy (or Davey). She came to Australia in June 1853 aboard the "Malvina Vidal" and is believed to have married in Sydney, but I have no record of her marriage, children (if any) or death. I have plenty of information about Mary's siblings John and Bridget, who came to Australia in June 1855 and Feb 1860 respectively and both married into the Blanchfield family. Any info appreciated.

I am trying to verify info on Bolen/Bolling family. The only thing I am certain of is that my gggrandmother's name was Adriana "Add" Bolin, born in Tennessee and died in Mo. From Ancestry.com family trees her father's name was William Reeves Bolen, b 1818 in NC;died 1864 in TN. His parents were John Bolen(b 1795 in NC;died 1839 in TN) and Martha Mangum(b 17? in NC). I never hear anything of these Bollings, Bolens. John's parents were supposedly John Bolling and Mary Jefferson, whom you do hear alot about. Can anyone help me verify the connection. The Ancestry.com family trees seem to be well researched but I see nothing about John & Martha, or William Reeves in Bolling history. Thanks.
Great grandmother cousin of Edith Bolling Galt Wilson

Hi everyone. I have been trying to find the names of my great grandmother Elizabeth Bollings parents but have run into a wall. One of my Aunts told me that she remembered her grandmother (Elizabeth Bolling) being the cousin of Edith Bolling Galt Wilson and that she even had a picture of the two of them together at one time long ago. So I of course thought "cool! All I have to do is find out Edith Bolling's parents names and then find the names of each of her fathers brothers. I figured since bother Edith and Elizabeth had the same maiden name that surely Elizabeths dad was one of Ediths dads brothers. Unfortunately, William Holcombe Bolling only had one brother that died in infancy, so he couldn't have been Elizabeths father. So I am at the end of my rope with trying to find Elizabeths father with the last name of Bolling and is also a cousin of Edith Bolling Galt Wilson. Does anyone have any ideas? My husband said they may not have been regular cousins but more like second or third cousins which really confuses me...lol Anyway, My great grandmother Elizabeth was married to George Wright and she was born in 1871. Outside of that I am clueless. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Yelle/Yelly/Yearly/Early Bolling/Bolin/Bolen/Bowlin

As you can see from the subject line, I've been having a bear of a time tracing the forebearers of my gggg grandfather, a Yelly Bolen b. 1801 in VA, married Lucey E. Saunders (b. 1808 in NC) in 1824 in Giles Co., TN, then family relocated later to MO, where both Yelly and Lucey are buried at Cape Fair, Stone County, Missouri.

I've been told Yelly's father was also named Yelly and lived 1750 - 1849, though that seems awfully improbable that he lived to 99 years old in that day in time. Both Yelly and Lucey are listed in the Giles Co. Tenn. 1850 census as being illiterate, Yelly was a farmer, so their inability to read and write might have something to do with the lack of earlier records. Some have surmised that Yelly was of Melungeon descent. Would appreciate any feedback, facts, opinions and ideas.

Samuel was born 1822 in Virginia.
married to a Lydia. Had two siblings. Eli and Rhonda. He had a child named Elijah, whom had a child, william pierson, whom had my father, Sam.
i have been informed that Sam Bowling moved to Menifee co. Ky, and that was where he died.
Does anyone have any info to verify this. If so , Is he buried in Menifee co. I have located all grandfathers graves below him. Would really like to know where he is buried. And if he had other children, thier names.
Apparently, they first moved to Letcher co. Ky , and somehow went into Magoffin co, then Menifee co Ky
any info greatly appreciated
Thanks
CS Bowling Rice

Descendant of Tully Bolling and Mary Ann Smythe Phelps Mimms

This message is to any descendant of Tully Bolling, but in particular to Judith Stokes who wrote a message in 2001 (to which I just replied).

David Henry Stokes (your husband), is my cousin. I too am descended from Tully Bolling (son of Samuel and Abigail Choice Bolling) and his second wife, Mary Ann Smythe Phelps Mimms. (She married three times.) Tully and Mary Ann had three daughters--Abigail Maria, Harriet Matilda and Martha Ann. Abigail married Thomas Henry Stokes. Harriet married Robert Alexander Child. Martha Ann, who married William T. Hickson, is my gggrandmother. Her daughter was Mary Ann Hickson who married Dr. Franklin Pierce Walker who had William Stanton Walker who married Julia Finley Patton who had my mother, Julia Ann Walker who married Marion Toulmin Gaines III. I would love to trade notes with you, your former husband or anyone else interested. I have locations for the graves of the three sisters and some interesting facts about their half-brother Thaddeus C. Bolling, Tully's son from his first marriage to Catherine Gaines.
Sincerely, Julia Patton Gaines
(I'm distantly related to Catherine Gaines and her son Thaddeus Bolling on my father's side.)

Powhatan (Pocahantas) to Bolling

Have noticed a number of inquiries as to the "family story" of kinship with Pocahantas. Here it is. If you can get your line back to the below mentioned Robert Bolling you're in the Pocahantas tree.
................
Robert Bolling, b 12/26/1646 in London Eng married Jane Rolfe (b 10/10/1650) in 1665 (she was 15!) in Petersburg, Indian Territory, (Dinwiddie Co., VA). His parents were John Bolling and Mary Carie.
Her parents were Thomas Rolfe and Jane Poythress. Thomas was the only offspring of John Rolfe and Pocahantas(she died while in England). He was taken in by his Uncle, Henry Rolfe of London and reared to manhood. He returned to VA in 1640 (aged 25), where he was born. Jane Poythress was his second wife, whom he married in VA (where she was born) and it's their daughter (Jane) who married Robert Bolling. There's your connection.

I am just begining to search our family history. My siblings have already located some info but very little.
We are apparently from the Boling family out of Knot co. Virginia. My grandfather; either William Pierson or Pierson William Bowling was born in Knot co. Virginia in 1882. His Father was Elijah Boling possible born 9/26/1832. and Elijah father was suppose to be Sam Boling/Bolin. William Pierson was married several times including my grand mother; Hattie Walters whose father was J.J. (Doc) Walters; My Father: Samuel Bowling spent some time in jail and or Prison in Virginia for something which he never disclosed to any of the children. He and my Mother have both passed therefore as adults we have no one to ask.
Somewhere along the way the family ended up in Letcher co. Ky on Bull Creek/elk Creek.
We are in need of info on on these people also; Met Walters ;Nanny Rawl; Elic Rawl; Sally Walters; Maggie Johnson; Walker Hornsby.
Somewhere along the way there is some connection to a JM Salyers in Salyersville, Ky. Possibly on Hattie Walter"s Side.
any info will be greatly appreciated to help us get started.
e-mail me at csrice@mrtc.com

I am interested in the Bolling Family Book. If you could give any information on this I would be grateful. I am trying to connect the dots from my husbands line to Pocahontas. My father in law was born John L . Bolling in 1898 in either Texas or Alabama. His father was Joseph L Bolling and His mother's name was Betty. I do not know her maiden name. I do know that at some time some of his family lived in Alabama. He had two brothers, Tulley Bolling and Doyle Bolling.

Letter to John and Samuel Adams from Robert Bolling of Dinwiddie county

Thought other Bollings might be interested in seeing this letter

Virginia, December 16, 1774

To Sam, and Jno. Adams, Esqurs. at Boston

Gentlemen,

The spirited conduct which the people of Boston have maintained, in a time of oppression, and their great perseverance in the cause of American liberty, has justly entitled them to the assistance of their fellow-subjects in the other Colonies. Actuated by this principle, the inhabitants of Amelia and Dinwiddie Counties, have sent them a small contribution of grain, to alleviate, in some degree, the sufferings which an exclusion of commerce and want of employment have occasioned among your laboring people. Sensible of the confidence reposed in you by your country, and uninformed of any particular Committee to whom we could address this donation, we have taken the liberty to desire you would order it into such a channel as that it may be productive of the end proposed.

We are, Gentlemen, with the greatest respect, your most obedient servants.

John Tabb, of Amelia
Rob’t Bolling, of Dinwiddie
Jno. Bannister, of Dinwiddie
Am looking for information on Ann/Nancy Bolling b. 1755. She was the sister of Elizabeth Bolling who married Christopher Bartholomew Manlove. Ann/Nancy married Christopher's brother, William Manlove. I need to know the date of her death and any other information about her and her husband, William. I believe that their child, Bartholomew, is my 3x great grandfather, but cannot find documentation to link Bartholomew to Ann/Nancy & William.

Mariann Fisk Laughlin

Hi,
I'm trying to help my friend find information about his father and his father's ancestors. His father is named Tolly R. Bolling Sr., we're guessing he was born 1915 to 1925, he served in the US Army during WWII. Tolly Jr. was born in 1945 in Penn. at a Army post. We think Tolly Sr. was born in Kentucky and that his mother live(s)(d) in W.
Hi there-

I have totally run into a dead end on finding any info out about this Elender Boling. She married in 1827 to Thomas Mccay and died around 1873. I can find nothing about who might have been her father or mother.

There are several Bolings that could possibly be her father namely William Boling or Samuel Boling, who were in the area and at the right age to have been some kind of relative, but I have no proof, only anecdotal evidence. Any facts floating around out there? Thanks-

Lisa

I ran across a book on the Bolling Family in a local (Atlanta area) used bookstore. It's written by Todd Bolen and is a 2nd edition dated 8/2/1997. It covers many spellings of the name. I bought it because I hate to see something like this with so much family history not in use. I would be willing to do lookups if anyone is interested, or if a family member is interested in having it and would be willing to re-imburse me for postage, feel free to contact me.
