Hello,
My name is Marlene Bonaparte (maiden). I have JUST started this and have always heard there was a "Carolina" connection in the Bonaparte side of the family.

My family settled sometime between 1870 and 1880 in Louisianna - Baton Rouge. Both my grandparents had a cast to their English suggesting island, cajun, or New Iberian origins.

My great-grand-father was Andrew Bonaparte (Handy) and listed his home state as Kentucky in the 1880 and 1930 census.

I am a Bonaparte, I am from Cope, SC a small town in Orangeburg County in SC. I happened to see this message board and all of the post about Lousiana South Carolina Bonaparte's. My family is deep in Cope, SC and Cameron, SC which is basically in the Orangeburg and St.Matthews areas. I would love to know more about Bonpartes in all the other areas in SC and down in Lousiana. Here's something interesting I would like to share with all of the Bonaparte family. Sept 2010 I traveled to Accra Ghana West Africa and located and met with the Bonaparte Family. There are literally hundreds of them living primarily in Osu [Old Town] near to the Castle but also spread throughout the country. I am told that they are of the Ga tribe and speak the Ga dialect. They also informed me that they have roots in Nigeria. The information I received from them confirms what I learned from my own dna testting. Fulani, Kunari and Hausa tribes. Large nomadic group covering west to east Africa. Libya, Niger, Chad, Nigeria, Sudan. West Africa to include Guinea, Mali etc. Responsible for the spread of Islam throughout Africa during the time of the prophet. I am unable to find out who were Hilliard Bonaparte parents and grand parents are............

Hilliard Bonaparte was married to Caroline Whaley in the late 1800's or early 1900's

His oldest son Heyward was from another marriage or relationship Frances Amaker......

David Williams 1910 - 1966 & Frances Harrell - Williams 1913- -- is My dad and mom

David Bonaparte born -1910 died -1966 is one of Hilliard Bonaparte's son.

Daivd Bonapatre moved to Baltimore in the 1930s and changed his name to Williams from "Bonaparte". There he met and married Frances Harrell.

Hilliard Bonaparte had several children Heyward Bonaparte, David Bonaparte, Samual Bonaparte, Charles Bonaparte, William Bonaparte, Mary Bonaparte, Rebecca Bonaparte, Carie Bonaparte and more others to name.

I still live in Baltimore, Md. I was born in 1959 and I am the youngest out of nine children born to David & and Frances Williams.

I am trying to find out as much as possible about our ancestors. Stories,
old photos, anything that may help me understand my culture and if anyone can help me in anyway that would be greatly appreciated.

My mother Frances Harrell-Williams is still living and will be celebrating
her 95th birthday this year on November 19, 2008.

In 2008 a friend of mine researched the history of both my mother and father. My mother was Bonaparte, her mother's name was Annie Beatrice Bonaparte, born to Littleton Washington Bonaparte (Dec 25, 1987)Powhatan Co., VA and Fannie (middle and/or maiden name unknown). Littleton's father's name was Lucius Bonaparte (1859)Darlington, SC.

Curiosity led me to your post..It would be exciting to find out more about the history of Bonaparte's.

Emporer Napoleon Bonaparte

I am interested in Emporer Napoleon Bonaparte's lineage. I had thought he was French, but learned his parents were Italian nobility and then discovered the family originally comes from Florence, in Italy. I know about his father, Carlo/Carlos. Does anyone have ancestors beyond Carlo? And places of birth for them? I'm not descended, but find the family interesting. Any help will be very appreciated.

I have written two books, which mention the Baxter and Bonapartes, Notes and Documents of Free Persons of Color, and Pieces of the Quilt: The Mosaic of an African American Family. Pieces of the Quilt has more information than Notes And Documents of Free Persons of Color. There is speculation that J. Edgar Hoovers father was a Bonaparte or related to the Bonapartes. The first person to head the FBI was a Bonaparte and he is believed to be a relative of J. Edgar Hoover.

Hi. I just emailed you. Wow, you will meet a wonderful family. My son lost his father, who is/was Roosevelt Bonaparte, Jr. My son is his child. He was a retired military officer with the Army and is bured in the Florence military cemetary. My son is Roosevelt Bonaparte, III. I retained my former married name. Thank you for your help and interest. I am excited that my son can possibly meet family other than his immediate family. They also have a family reunion of Sparks-Bonaparte.

Hello! My name is Verna Bonaparte-Mitchell, and I believe Hilliard Bonaparte is/was my great-grandfather. My mother's father (died in November 1955) was Heyward Bonaparte, the first. Born in 1895 (August 29), fought bravely in WWI (my Mom told me that), died November 15, 1955. He had four daughters and two sons, the eldest son named after him. My son is a Bonaparte from SC, Darlington. I bet he is somewhere in the family line. His grandmother was a full Cherokee Indian, but because he is my son, the family is not forthcoming with much information. He knows that his great-grandfather's name was Bobby Bonaparte. I think I may be somehow related. My great grandmother was Minerva Bonaparte, who was from Society Hill, SC. There is a high concentration of Bonapartes in that area. She was most likely born in the late 1870s or early 1880s because she gave birth to my grandmother, Sylvia Snipes in 1910. Sylvia Snipes is listed in the 1930 census as Sylvia Gatison, because she married James Gatison. I hope this information helps you find more. If you do, please contact me. Thanks.

I am researching the South Carolina Bonapartes. My great grandmother was "Minerva Bonaparte." She was born in the late 1800s in or around Society Hill, SC. All I know about her is that she gave birth to my grandmother, Sylvia Snipes, who married James Gatison of Darlington, SC. If you find any furhter information please contact me. I believe I have the same manuscript. I've based most of my research on that manuscript, but have been unable to find any proof other than a port of entry in Virginia by someone of the Bonaparte family who was supposed to have changed his name later. Are you related to this family?
