POW/MIA Korean War

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Lancaster County, Pennsylvania as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: WILLIAM ERNEST BONAWITZ
Born: 1928
Date of loss: June 14, 1952

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Henry Bonnewitz of Queens, NY b. 1824

Looking for info on Henry Bonnewitz born around 1824. He and his wife Margretta resided in Queens, New York with their children Henry Jr., Charles H., Mary, Annie, Philip, and William. Its on record that Henry and Margretta are from Hamburg, Germany though I cannot find them both together on a passenger list. I’ve found a Henry Bonnewitz on a passenger list to Philadelphia from Germany in 1855 though their first child Henry Jr. is recorded to have been born in New York in 1848.

I’ve read the Book of Bonewitz and Bonawitz. A book about the Bonewitz/Bonawitz family that settled the Berks County area of Pennsylvania ince the mid 1700’s. I’ve found in Ch 3 a Henry Bonawitz (no DOB given) born to John Bonawitz (b. 1801) in Berrysburg, which I guess is in PA. The book says there were no further records of Henry and his two sisters and that it was possible that all three died at youth. Could it also be possible that Henry left Berrysburg for Queens, NY.

If you need any more info please visit my public tree on Ancestry.com under the name HEUSER2009.

I found where they have the Bonawitz book online. You can try here : http://bonnewitz.org/ or at http://bonnewitz.org/Part2/15-01.htm directly to Daniel Bonawitz and Sarah Ann Greager. This is all I could find as I'm also doing research and on the Matz side. Any info you can share with me would be appreciated. Thanks!
