Re: French Canadian Bonins in TX, LA

I am sorry I haven't responded sooner, but work and travel have kept me busy lately. Since you are interested in general information on the Bonin's in LA, here is a tidbit to help you know alittle about the LA Bonins. The LA line is traced back to a gentleman by the name of Antoine Bonin. According to Gestnair Bonin's research Antoine was born in Grenoble, St Laurent, Dauphine, France. He was in the french army and that is how he came to the US via Mobile, Al. He married a woman by the name of Marguerite Tellier and they settled in the area of St. Martinville LA. It always amazes me how we all trace back to one set of parents. :) If you have specifics you are searching for, please feel free to forward them and I will help with what I can.

Hi Mike, I believe you know my father, Richard Boning. We planning a trip to NS in August and are interested in visiting St. Esprit to look at where Pierre Bonnain settled. In looking at Google-earth views of the area, it is unclear where Pierre's residence would have been. Presumably, there would have been both a harbor and a ready source of freshwater. However, the inland body of water closest to the point designated as St. Esprit appears to be cut off from the ocean. Perhaps this was not always the case. The nearest current harbor appears to be about 2 km west at L'Archeveque. Any guidance you could offer would be very much appreciated.

I finally made some progress on my BONIN line only to find that I have the BONIN line running through my family twice and I am not sure if they are seperate families or the same.

My grandmother was Lillian Bonin Doyle. Her father's parents were Antoine Bonin (b 1828 Ste-Elizabeth, Canada) and Julie Carriere (b.1829 Montreal, Quebec, Canada).

I trace Antoine Bonin's father side (Antoine-Nicolas Bonin b. 06 Dec 1794) back to Nicolas Bonin dit Ste-Marie and Marie Francoise Houde dit Houle in the mid 1700.

I then find out that Antoine Bonin's mother (Marie Elisabeth Dalcour b.19 Apr 1797 St-Cuthbert, Quebec, Canada) who was married to Antoine-Nicolas Bonin (m. 11 May 1818 Sainte-Elisabeth, Sainte-Elisabeth, Quebec, Canada) has the BONIN family in her line. Her parents were Ignace Dalcourt & Marie Anne Frappier dit Sthilaire. Ignace Dalcourt parents were Jean Baptiste Guignard dit Dalcour and Marie Josephe Bonnin (b. 05 Sep 1720 Contrecoeur, Quebec, Canada). This line goes back to the Nicolas Bonin dit Ste-Marie & Marie Esmery (m. 19 Nov 1684). This is the Nicolas that you speak of in your emails who is a soldier. I then go back on this line to Nicolas dit l'Aîné Bonin married to Anne Buchard (m. Abt. 1620 La Couarde-sur-Mer, Notre-Dame-des-Bonnes-Nouvelles, France)

Do you have any of these lines in your research?

Judy Doyle Turner
