Hi. All of the above are the children of Joseph Bonk. Wife was V. Deering/Dearing.
I would like more info. His real name, where his parents came from, brothers and sisters. Please email me directly at rhona999@gmail.com or post here. My Grandmother was Cathryn. I can remember my ggrandmother living in Croyden, PA with my Aunt Mary. Someone said that his name was really Jozef Bak and was the son of Polish Austrian immigrants. Another story is that there was a ski or sky at the end of the last name. I do know that he met my ggrandmother in GA and they moved to PA, probably Wilkes Barre, maybe Kidder St. I think Helen married into the Knight family and they lived in Newark, NJ many years ago.

Hi melissa: This bap. cert. that I have must be from the same family you are talking about because it says Andrew Bak and Francisca Niemczuk are the parents of Franciseus born 21st of I think Nov. 1887. Possibly this child didn't live and so that the Albert Mel and Maria you spoke of came a bit later. What does patrini mean in latin? If it means parents of Andrew then it says that his parent is Thomas but if it means that it is the godparents then Thomas is the godfather of Andrew's son Franciseus and Catharine Niemczuk is the godmother. Tom says he can read latin so I will copy it and send it to him so he can have a go at it. Pat

Hi Patricia: I sent a reply but it does not appear to have been listed. Unexpectedly, the baptismal certificate confirms in my mind that you and Melissa are both looking for the same Andrew.

I am still fairly comfortable with Latin; if you care to send me a copy, I'd be happy to help.

Re the Grande Prairie Bonk: although he is not in the main line, it is probable that he has a cousinly relationship with Andrew's sons.

Because you are both dealing with the same family, I have a package of material to send to each of you that I think you will find useful. Using my email tmwalker@shaw.ca would you send me a mailing address? I have found the ancestry.com route to be unreliable and there are other means of handling privacy.

-Tom

Hi again: I had my friend look at the bap. certificate that I was given a copy of and it is mostly in latin rather than Polish but together we figured out most of it. It seems a son Francisus was born to Andreas Bak son of Gregoru and Theresiselast name we can't distinguish) and his wife Francisca Nicurcrak (dau. of Francisco and his wife Marure Talrush) The godparents appear to be Thomas Bak and Catharine Nicurcrak. The writing is poor so it is hard to make out some letters and so there is likely mistakes in the interpretation. Pat

Hi Patricia - This is negative information but sometimes that can help to change course.

You refer to a Michael Bong who died in Grand Prairie in 1985. The Andrew who fathered 22 children did have a son commonly described as Mike who, however, died in 2001.

The Andrew of Melissa's query came to Canada in 1900 and their Galician origin was much further west than Mostyska.

Hi Melissa: Thank you for your message. I'm unsure as to whether the Andrew Bonk in Sask. is related to us or not. My cousin in Wpg. recently sent me a bap. cert. for a child named Franciscus son of Andrew and Francisca M or Niciucrak which gives the Patrini as Thomas Bak and Catharine Niciucrak. I will have my friend who is Polish tell me what it all means.
This all started when I was on the internet one night and came across the death of a Michael Bonk in Gr. Prairie, Alta who died in 1985 and I think his wife Mary Mackowecki who died in 1991 in Beaverlodge, Alta. I am pretty sure they are related to our branch of the Bonk family. Does your branch go back to Mostiska, Ukraine? My husband's family came to Canada in 1930 from Mostiska and Sokola. We'll keep each other in mind if we come up with anything okay? Albert was born on Apr 23, 1889 in Austria, died on Jan 31m 1971. Albert married Frances Ann Rusinek on Nov 17, 1910 in Melville.

Maria was born on Jan 11, 1884 and died Dec 17, 1918 in Lemberk, SK. Maria married Frank Osiowy on Aug 26, 1902.

Unfortunately my info is next to none on Andrew.
Hi:
The name of Andrew's wife, that I have, is Francis Niemczuk. The names of their children, that I have, are Albert Mel (born 1889) and Maria. With the year that Albert is born, I don't think we have the same Andrew.

I haven't been looking very diligently lately as I've hit many roadblocks and can't seem to find the right resources.

Good luck in ur search.

Hi: I am married to a Michael Bonk so am researching Bonks as well. Do you have any info on the Andrew you are looking for. My cousin from Winnipeg just called and she says that she has written down that a Andrew Bonk born 1887 was married to a Franceska Micurcrak. She is sending me a baptismal certificate of one of their children but it is written in Polish so I will try to get my friend to translate it for me so when you finally read this please get in touch with me. Okay?

Here's what I found in a census, and I think it is him!!

Lucas Bonk born Nov. 1839 In Poland. Married to Mary (not sure of her maiden name yet) born Feb. 1849 in Poland. They had 9 children, 8 of which were still living at the the time. I have 5 of the children's names. Frank, son born Nov. 1880 in IL. Jos (thats how it was written on the census, I believe this to be my great great grandfather Joseph) born June 1882 in IL. Son Mich born Aug. 1884 in IL. Son Stan born July 1885 in IL, and a Daughter named Anastsia born Feb. 1889 in IL. I sure hope this is them! I will keep anyone who is interested posted on my findings :)

I will try to see if I can locate it, but it might take awhile as I just had a baby last week and am moving rather slowly right now.

Sorry... :-(

Jennifer

I had a grandfather in Chicago named John Bonk. He was from Skrzidlowitz, Germany. I do not see a connection to your great grandfather.

I found a death notice for John Bonk, of 2333 N. Damen Ave. It was printed in the Chicago Tribune on Jan. 25, 1951.

father of: Theodore, Walter, and Izydora
father-in-law of: Katherine, Marianna, and Henry Rosman
brother of: Ignatius
grandfather of: 2 grandsons, 2 granddaughters

Funeral was held on Sat., 1-27-1951, at 10:30 a.m., from the funeral home at 2242 N. Leavitt St., to St. Hedwig's Church. Burial was at St. Adalbert's.

Pgsa.org death index lists John's death as 1-24-1951.

I hope this information helps in your research.

Helene
