Re: 10 thousands of Bonner "Lines" in the South

Hi!
By any chance, are you part of the Bonner line that went to AR, and all the generations pryer, was spelled BONNER (including the first census they are recorded in AR); and then for some unknown reason, the 1930 census enumerates them with a totally different spelling (if I remember correctly, it is a Germanic type spelling) and has continued with the new spelling to this day?

There is yet another BONNER that for a brief time was my next door neighbor in an apt. building. His name was James E Bonner, an attorney that graduated Ole Miss Law SChool & while there his roomy was the school's star quarterback, Luther Fagan. This James E. Bonner was a cousin to Robert "Lee" Bonner who married my dad's oldest sister. This James E. Bonner has had a stroke that stopped him from his law career, but he's sharp as a tack when it comes to genealogy. He's the one that informed me that my Uncle Robert "Lee" Bonner was not Lee at all but a nickname. Currently I forget what he said his real middle name was and that 99% of all concerned never knew the real nam...nobody could tell where the nickname came from either.

HAH! He just didn't talk to the right ones because another of my dad's sisters told where the nickname "Lee" came from.

Descendants of this particular BONNER ("LEE") live in Lubbock, TX. All recent ancestors surrounding time frame of "Lee" frequently moved back and forth across county line of Washington Co. AL, and Choctaw Co., AL but some went on over into MS--after all, those two counties are on the St. line next to Wayne Co., MS, and Clarke Co.,MS.

If either of these are your AR people, would you please share your GEDCOM?

Respectfully requested,

Anni Fagan
spypuppy007@yahoo.com

John and R.J. Bonner of Ontario

I am looking for descendants of John Bonner (1832-1908), his son Robert John Bonner (1868-1948), and especially of R.J.'s sister, Mary Ellen "Nell" Bonner (b. 1861) who married Donald M. McMillan, a Scot born 1846, arrived in Canada 1864.

John Bonner's parents, James Bonner and Jane Convery, were immigrants to Quebec from Scotland. R.J. Bonner was born in Ontario, moved to Chicago where he was head of the Classics Department at the University of Chicago.

We have lost track of Nell Bonner's descendants and would like to reestablish contact.

Thanks!

On researching the Roy family, you should seek out the book, History of the Lambert family, with Information on the Bonner, Bright, Carr, and Yokum Families, by Oscar Doane Lambert,Ph.D., Historian Professor @ University of Virginia. Only fifty(50) copies of this book were printed. So it will be hard to find. These families are married into the Roy family at least two different ways.

Sorry, I have no answer on your question.

Certainly there are a lot of Bonner's in Ireland (particularly from Donegal).

I have drawn a blank on where my oldest Bonner relation (Elisha Bonner) born about 1750 came from, he got married in Devon in 1770. There is though a tie up to Old Church St Pancras for later Bonner descendants and possibly ancestors, though I have not made the connection yet.

Cheers

Graham

I am looking for information on my Bonner line, and I was hoping you might be able to assist me. My great-great grandfather was Thomas N. Bonner who came from Ireland to Maine with his wife Sarah Frances Bonner, (I am unsure if Frances was her middle name or her maiden name), and their son, John William Bonner was born in Eastport, Maine, USA May 1, 1850. Wife to John William Bonner was Zoreda Whidbee born January 7, 1856. John William Bonner, my great grandfather, was the caretaker for the Cape Hattaras Light House, North Carolina. My father told me that although my great, great grandfather came here from Ireland, our Bonners lived in the U.S. before then. I do know that we are the same branch as is related to the Tidewater Virginia Hyslops, but Thomas N. Bonner is as far back as I have for information on my Bonner line. Any help would be much appreciated. You may e-mail me at cnslradvisor@gmail.com if you have any information. Thank you.

Benjamin Bonner, Birmingham England, 1850 - 1888

Seeking information about Benjamin Bonner, born c. 1854, married Harriett Green in mid-1870's; had five daughters and a son born between 1879 and 1887 in Tamworth. During this time he had a vriety of occupations: stone mason, marine store dealer, hawker/fish hawker. Benjamin disappears around 1888. Harriett moves back to Birmingham by 1891 and has two more children (without named fathers) in 1892 and 1893. The Bonner children were Ann b. 1878; Florence b.1880; Gertrude b.1882; Rachel b.1883; Leah b.1887; Bernard b.1888 - all born in Tamworth, and Harriett b.1892 and Alice b.1893 in Birmingham. In 1901, Harriet Bonner married Frank Worrall and indicates on the marriage certificate that she was a widow. There is no evidence of any birth, marriage, or death certificates for a Benjamin who will tie in with this family. If anyone has information about this family group, I would appreciate hearing from them. Rachel was my maternal grand-mother.
I will be glad to share with you the information I have. We are definitely dealing with the same family. My sister and I have working on this for several years. Our problem has been not being able to prove that Moses, Sr. was the son of Thomas. Also we don't know where Moses, Sr. was between the time he left Granvill NC and ended up in the Mississippi Territory in 1789. Hope you might can shed some light on this.

Let me know if you need anything specific. We are the descendents of James Bonner who lived in Rapides Parish Louisiana. One of his sons, Solomon, is my grandfather, four times removed. James died on his plantation in Rapdies around 1821. We have never been able to find out much about Solomon who apparently died in his early 30's.

I am looking for information on my grandfather Thomas Henry Bonner who was born about 1903 in Blenhiem, Ontario. He married Dorothy Sheppard about 1938 and has to children with her; Charles (my father) born in 1940 and Richard born in 1942. My father has confirmed with me the names of Thomas's brothers and sisters and as well that he may have been married to Ethel Bell Brown prior to marrying my grandmother. I have also been told that Thomas Henry passed away about the age of 63.

His wife was Zoreda Whidbee. His father was Thomas N. Bonner. This is the same line as the Tidewater Virginia Hyslops. Thomas N. Bonner came with wife Sarah from Ireland, but my father said our line lived in the U.S. before then also. Any help would be appreciated.
James William and Elizabeth CARR BONNER

Yesterday my husband and I met Charmian and Mardelle Bonner, daughters of Coy Ezra Bonner and granddaughters of James William and Elizabeth (Carr) Bonner. We compared notes on our genealogies, and they expressed an interest in meeting their other cousins.
We have the death certificate of Mary C. BONNER BENNETT (http://genealogy.az.gov/azdeath/0233/02330639.pdf) which shows the informant being Zena KESECKER. I searched old mail list messages last night and learned that Zena KESECKER is Mary's daughter.
We also have the death certificate of Mary's son, Lewis Azora Bennett (http://genealogy.az.gov/azdeath/063/10632954.pdf) and his gravestone photo (http://arizonagravestones.org/view.php?id=3891).

Does anyone have information on Raymuth BONNER? They say that their mother said he was also a son of James William and Elizabeth (Carr) Bonner, but I can't find anything on him.

If anyone would like to contact Charmian or Mardelle, please let me know. They do not e-mail but would like contact through snail mail.
If you would like, I can send you one of the books. Did you stay in contact with her after she left the Oakland area? I barely remember her, but she came to my mothers house when I was small.

Ilene (Gank) Veasel

Eleanor A Bonner

Can anyone tell me about Eleanor Bonner?

The only information I have is that she married Albert M Booty in 1924 in Hereford, UK.

I think that she had a son called Eric from a previous marriage and that her first husband had died (possibly in WW1).

Her son however might not have been hers, but a sister's or niece's and that she adopted the child to cover up the illegitimacy of the child.

Also, her maiden name or husband's name could have been Barnes as this name is always thrown around with the story of Eric's birth.
I needed to read the entire thread... I really haven't added anything as to new information. The Crookshank/Cruikshanks are my ancestors: Andrew Sr (from Ireland), Andrew Jr., Andrew J., Martha Ann (md. Henry Miller Anthony). Anyone interested in my research may contact me through my Ancestry account.

Re: Bonner/Boner, Crookshank/Crookshanks/Cruikshank PA

Perhaps this will help the confusion. From one of the Butler county histories: "Andrew CRUIKSHANK died during the war of 1812, on the very day when his son Andrew was to enter the service, having been drafted. In consequence of this affliction, and because his father had served his country so long, the son was not compelled to join the army. Of the children of this pioneer, John settled in Armstrong County. Sarah married Charles FOREMAN and settled first in Westmoreland County, then in Armstrong County. Andrew remained and died on the old homestead. He reared ten children, of whom six are still living, viz., William, the oldest resident of Winfield Township, born in 1810, and living on the old farm; Dorcas (BRUNER), Armstrong County; John, Winfield; David, Missouri; Martha (BRUNER), Armstrong County, and Samuel, Middlesex."

Sarah (that married Charles FOREMAN) is the daughter of Andrew Sr. (born in Ireland), not Andrew Jr. (born in Pennsylvania). The Cruikshank name is spelled Cruikshanks, Crookshank, and Crookshanks in the various census records. Those in the western counties are largely Irish and probably related in some way. I'm currently researching this line as they are my direct ancestors.
