Henry Blaine Bonnett, b1926-d1989

Hi there. Hoping some more resourceful souls come across this thread and can help me out.

I am trying to dig further into my father's side of the family which is fairly scarce of info right now. Both my grandfather and grandmother on his side are gone and I have no way of getting a hold of my father or his siblings for any known information they might have.

Grandfather was a Henry Blaine Bonnett born on December 1926 in Paradise/Lancaster, Pennsylvania and died on September 1989 in Champion/Warren, Ohio. Any farther back is a total blank.

Thanks for any help. :)

Thanks for the quick reply and the additional information. To be honest, I am at a brick wall with my Bonnett(e)'s. I had gone to Barnwell several years ago for one day and didn't have much time to research. I know I found a few Bonnett's in Orangeburg District - but couldn't determine if they are mine or not. Here is my direct line:
Edna Taris Bonnett(e) married Oscar C. Dyess
Clifford Morgan Bonnett(e) married Lola Alice Lewis
Jasper Morgan Bonnett(e) married Adalaide Rougeou
John Bonnett(e) married Matilda Murrell

That's as far back as I can get. I know these are right because they are all in the Central Louisiana area and are buried in cemeteries right here.

The census say: SC and NC as places of birth

Some say they are coming in at a southestern port of La but I cannot prove it.

Do any of the above names mean anything to you? Thanks so much!!!!!
Carolyn Dyess Bales

Re Eli Allen, here's what I put in my notes:

On the 1850 and 1860 Barnwell District census in the household of Artemissia Adams Bonnett is this Eli Bonnett. He then disappears from Artemissia's household on 1870 and 1880 census records.

Interestingly, on the 1870 Windsor, Barnwell, South Carolina census, for the first time at age 23, there appears an Elisha Cadle in the household of Artemissia's daugher Rebecca Ann Bonnett Cadle and her husband Willie. I believe that Eli Bonnett, first in the household of Artemissia, is the same person as Elisha Cadle who is later in the household of her daughter.

Washington Bonnett b. circa 1820, per my info, is actually David Washington Bonnett per two Bonnett family members. He shows a son Washington Bonnett on the 1870 census. I suspect, that his son was also a David Washington Bonnett, but I have no confirmation of that.

Are you a descendant of either of them?

William H. Bonnet (1822-1884) and Mary A ??? (1837-1902) in Iowa

I'm looking for information on the second wife of William H. Bonnett (born 12 Oct 1822 in Lewis Co. West Virginia, died 15 Apr 1884 in Marion Co, Iowa) and Mary A. ??? (born 22 Feb 1837 in Indiana, died 2 Apr 1902 in Jackson Co., Oregon). I think that they were probably married in Iowa or Indiana about 1863.

Mary is also known as Mary A Brittain, Mary Ann Britt, Mary Britt, Mary Reed, Mary Burnett and Mary A Bonnit.

Mary married Daniel Proctor Brittain (b 25 Jun 1825 in Indiana, d 11 Mar 1910 in Jackson Co., Oregon) in Jackson Co., Oregon around 1890. She was the second wife of Daniel, his first wife was Mary L. Garrison. Daniel and Mary appear in the 1900 census for Jackson Co, Oregon.

I think her second marriage has caused confusion regarding her last name, hence many references to her as Mary Ann Britt.

I have a photo of "Grandmother Bonnett and her father great-grandfather Venator". The notes are on the back of the picture appear to be written by my great grandmother Hazel Gladys Bonnett.

I think that Mary is the daughter of Benjamin Venator and Ann Maxwell. The family is found in 1850 Census for Knox, Illinois. I have not been able to prove or disprove the idea. I'm looking for information about Mary and her parents.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The children of Samuel Bonnett and his wife Elizabeth (her maiden name
is unknown) can be found in "Settlers of Salem West Virginia" by Susie
Nicholson Davis on p. 403. This is a source that is accepted by the
DAR. This source gives son Samuel as marrying Martha Radcliffe.
Hope this helps you.

I found a lot of information on Nicholas Linger Bonnett and his family on Ancestry.com from a posting by Charles J. Peterson (petersonC@missouri.edu)...I've also traced various census information on him and some of his descendants. My great-grandfather Erva Bonnett was a child of Nicholas's second wife Isabella (Per the posting I mentioned about...His first wife Hannah died in 1865 and he married Isabella in 1868. He died in 1881 and Isabella died in 1906. My great grand father was born in 1883 or 1885 from various records I've found...so I don't think he could have been Nicholas's child but I haven't found his birth certificate to see what it says. I've got lots more info than I could put here...so feel free to contact me (bcbarrington@gci.net)

Re: information on ERVA BONNETT

I have an Erva Bonnett in my family tree. Family records/memories list him as being born 2/8/83 to Isabel Adams and Nicholas Lee Bonnett - the problem with this data is that I've found records of Nicholas having died on 1/18/1881...2 years before he was born.

I've pieced several different records together but haven't found his birth certificate. His death certificate #1479 from Washington State (from information provided by his wife-Addie Bonnett) lists him as born Feb 8, 1883. He died in Spokane Washington 1/10/51 and his name was proved as Avra Bonnett. His father was listed as Albert Bonnett and his mother's name wasn't listed.

I found him listed in the Iowa State Census in 1895 in Fayette county. His mother, Isabella (age 51), was listed as the Head of the house, her stepson Sterling (age 39) was living with them, her sons Lee (age 23), William (age 22), daughter Clara (age 18) and Ervie (age 10)...this would mean he was born in 1885...not 1883...

I also found him in the 1900 federal census under the name Irvin (age 16), living with his mother Isabell and his brother William...listed as born Feb 1883.

I found his marriage certificate from Schuyler County, Missouri to Roberta E Martin on 10/21/1904...he was listed as Erva Bonnett, age 20, she was listed as 17 (this would mean he was born in 1884)....filed at courthouse in Lancaster, Missouri

In 1910 census he was married to Roberta, living in Fabius township, Schuyler County, Missouri with children Iny, John and Martin (my grandfather).

In 1920 census married to Roberta in Fabius again, children INez, John, Martin, Frances, Wilbur and Maxine

Family records say that Roberta died 1/18/1920 when Harold was born) and that he married Addie Esther Shell on 8/22/1925.

In 1930 census married to Addie Bonnett in Oregon with children Henry (1 yr old), Martin and Wilbur

James Andrew Bonnette of Louisiana & Arkansas

I am trying desperately to track my family tree & have a stump very early - help?!

My great grandfather was James Andrew "Jim" Bonnette born 3/11/1890 in LA (we think Ouachita or Jackson Parish), died 6/6/1962 around Montrose, AR. Census records have the last name spelled Bonnette, Bonnett, maybe even Bonnet. I know he had a relative named Alice Bonnette Cotton (b.June 1881)that we think was his half sister & that he lived w/ her & her family in Ouachita Parish in 1900. James Cotton was her husband w/ 2 children, Bennie (June 1897) & Dovie (March 1900). That record shows James' father as being born in South Carolina & his mother in Mississippi - it also shows Alice's father as the same, but her mother from S.C. Harriet Bonnette (b.April 1842) is listed as the mother-in-law on the census, which should make her Alice's mother. There is also a son of Harriet's named, John H. Bonnette(Jan. 1885), so that should be James Andrew's brother?? So, there is definitely a South Carolina connection here; just need help tracing it!

He married Nora Mae Horn (b.7/6/1897, d.7/17/1936) but find no record of when. She was born in AR, as were her parents - mother named Martha. James & Nora had 5 children: Fay "Cub" Bonnette (1914-1978), Alva (or Alvie) Kenneth "AK" Bonnette(1917-1984), Victor James (1919-1997), Vera Mae (1922) & Lear Lee (1925).

I have no hard info on James' siblings, parents, grandparents, etc. Can anyone shed any light for me???

Julianne,
I believe the Henry Bonnett you are researching was born in Castleton-Rochdale and died there in 1899. He married Elizabeth Whatmough in 1850. She died in 1892.
Henry's parents were John & Ann Bonnett.
According to the 1851 Census John's birthplace is given as Newark-Notts and wife Ann was born Silkstone Yorks.
A John Bonnett was baptised 9-Aug-1792 in Newark - the parents were John and Mary.
A John Bonnett married Mary Toder 31-Oct-1791 in Newark-Notts.
Please let me know if you the above is relevant to your past family.

Ron
Info on descendants of Samuel Bonnett REV WAR

I am trying to prove the my relationship to Samuel Bonnett...died Hacker's Creek, Lewis County, WV in 1789. I believe his son was Samuel Baxter Jr...and then Samuel Jr's
son was John who married Elizabeth Yeager. I have everything from John down to me. Samuel Bonnett is Patriot # A012024 in the DAR records.
