My Bonnette line is from Marksville. I am hoping you have some information that I have been unable to trace!
I have been unable to trace past my great-grandfather, James Lee Madison Bonnette (b 17 Apr 1865 in Red Fish; Avoyelles Parish). In 1895, he married Louise Elizabeth Lindsey (Aldridge-1st marriage) in Pointe Coupee Parish; their children: Alberta, Effie, Agnes (my grandmother) & Lillian.
The 1870 Marksville census (pg 321) shows a 4-yr old Madison as the son of Ibte & Helena Bonnette; his sibs were Ophelia, Cornelius, Alfonso, & John.
I cannot locate "James Lee Madison" or those siblings & parents with any combination of names & spellings on the 1880 census, or on others' websites.
On the 1910 census, I found "LM Bonnette" married to Louise in Jacoby, Pointe Coupee parish (I am certain this is the correct person).
I want to know which Bonnette line James Lee Madison Bonnette descended from; others' website records provide different lines and I cannot decipher which ones are valid.
Thank you so much for sharing your time and information,
Jean Adams Tomei
May 2012

MaryAnn,
Any luck on your question? My Dad moved from MH when he was 6 mos. old in 1914 to Turners Falls MA. His father, from Quebec, was Albert and mother was Alice (Berthiume). I know some work has been done to trace backwards but I have not seen much to date. I would be interested to learn if there is any connection here. I also understand that at about the same same time we moved to NH another brother had moved to Michigan.
Kevin

We are connected through Alfred Duprey - Alfred's brother Arthur married Josephine Masse and left New Hampshire after the birth of the first child - second child Henry Duprey (my husbands grandfather) was born in Canada in 1908. It is believed that Arthur left his family in Canada and returned to the US. I have found a record of death for him I believe in San Diego in 1956. We have just sent away for death registration to see if we can find out any other info. The family of Arthur live in Quebec Canada.

I have not made any progress on this line, don't know if it's because nobody is searching or because of the fact he left his family here and there are hard feelings.

Any info you can supply would be appreciated.
I am trying desperately to track my family tree & have a stump very early - help?!

My great grandfather was James Andrew "Jim" Bonnette born 3/11/1890 in LA (we think Ouachita or Jackson Parish), died 6/6/1962 around Montrose, AR. Census records have the last name spelled Bonnette, Bonnett, maybe even Bonnet. I know he had a relative named Alice Bonnette Cotton (b.June 1881)that we think was his half sister & that he lived w/ her & her family in Ouachita Parish in 1900. James Cotton was her husband w/ 2 children, Bennie (June 1897) & Dovie (March 1900). That record shows James' father as being born in South Carolina & his mother in Mississippi - it also shows Alice's father as the same, but her mother from S.C. Harriet Bonnette (b.April 1842) is listed as the mother-in-law on the census, which should make her Alice's mother. There is also a son of Harriet's named, John H. Bonnette(Jan. 1885), so that should be James Andrew's brother?? So, there is definitely a South Carolina connection here; just need help tracing it!

He married Nora Mae Horn (b.7/6/1897, d.7/17/1936) but find no record of when. She was born in AR, as were her parents - mother named Martha. James & Nora had 5 children: Fay "Cub" Bonnette (1914-1978), Alva (or Alvie) Kenneth "AK" Bonnette(1917-1984), Victor James (1919-1997), Vera Mae (1922) & Lear Lee (1925).

I have no hard info on James' siblings, parents, grandparents, etc. Can anyone shed any light for me???

Hi Russ -

Just began our Family tree & stumbled across this - hope you get it & still have the info.... I am a descendant of the north LA/south AR Bonnettes & am stumped at my greatg-father. Wondered if you might be able to help?! His name was James Andrew "Jim" Bonnette (also saw on census records spellings of Bonnett & Bonnet), b. 3/11/1890 in LA (either Ouachita or Jackson parish we think) d. 6/6/1962 in the Montrose, AR area. Married Nora Mae Horn b.7/6/1897 in AR, d.7/17/1936 in AR. They had 5 children. There is an Alice Bonnette Cotton that we believe was his half sister - he lived w/ her & her family in Ouachita Parish in 1900. Can't get past that... ANY help you'd have would be awesome!

Knapp, Sr., and lived in Concordia Parish. She had one daughter Mamie(which she brought into the marriage), and 3 sons, James C. Knapp, Jr., Ellis Knapp and Mack L. Knapp. I am doing this research for my friend, Betty, and any info would be very much appreciated.

Hi Don,

Can't remember if I answered you or not before when you wrote
back to me on the subject of Stede Bonnet.
Don't know how he is supposed to be related to my line as
a person can only find so much info on the man.

I did find that he was married to someone named Mary or Marie
& had a son named Edward who was christened on Sept 24, 1713.
in St. Michael, Barbados, Caribbean.

Edward married a Martha Ann ? & had a son named Edward
Cornelius Bonnet. He was either born or christened on Aug 28,
1839 in St. Michael, Barbados.

This info, I found on the FamilySearch.Org from the Mormon
church.
This is all I could find. If you look up Stede on the net, it should
tell you when he was killed.

Trudi
