BONNEY -- JAMES "JIM" P. 88, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Monday, December 12, 2012 at the Veteran's Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born August 22, 1923 in Pastura, New Mexico to Santiago E. and Frances Campos Bonney. Jim served in the United States Army, participating in the Normandy invasion, the Battle of the Hedgerows and the Battle of St. Lo. He was decorated with the World War II European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Silver Star, the WW II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his military service, Jim served as a Tax and Revenue Collector for the NM Taxation and Revenue Department, from which he retired. He was also a member of Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church in Dona Ana. Survivors include three sons: Jim D. Bonney of Kennewick, Washington, George Bonney (Ellen) of Kansas City, Kansas, and Randy Bonney of Las Cruces; one daughter, Liz Bonney (Jeff Gardner) also of Las Cruces; siblings Thelma Bonney of Salt Lake City, Utah, Leroy Bonney (Dolly) and Joel Johnson (Bill) of Santa Rosa, New Mexico, Christine Ortiz (Rudy) of Rio Rancho, Bernice Bibiano (Reyes) of Daly City, California, Lee Campos (Maria) of Orange County, California, Guadalupe Campos of California, Joe Campos of Albuquerque, Irma Velasquez (Manuel), Martha Moreno (Jose) of San Francisco, California. Other survivors include four grandchildren: Kelly, Amy, Emily, Melanie; and three great-grandchildren: Shawn, Gavin, and Malcolm. He was also survived by his extended family Mary A. Garza, Lou H. Martinez (Lorraine), Hector Martinez and many nephews, nieces and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emily M. Bonney; and granddaughter, Liberty Bonney. At his request, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cowboys for Cancer in the name of Jim Bonney. Entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces, 300 E. Boutz Road, 527-2222.
