In my search for information on my Uncle Stewart Taylor (related by marriage..but he and his wife, my aunt, had no children), I found this post. Stewart Taylor's grandfather was George W. Taylor and his grandfather James H. Taylor. I am sending a link to the death certificate of James H. Taylor. In the death certificate it lists Richard Taylor as his father. Your posting lists Rolla Morse as James' father. Very curious. http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/r...

I believe I am related to these people too, through John Bonnifield and Ann Duvall, and then through Deborah Bonnifield (b. Maryland) and John C. Rogers (b. Virginia 1792). These last two were married in 1811 in Clark Co. KY, then later moved to Illinois. I have a lot more info about the family in Illinois (and Missouri) than about the Maryland or Virginia families.
--Ken Duffy
I descend from Anzaletta, sister of Ellis. It's great to hear from another descendant. Martha, another sister, is represented by Edward Jackson. Slowly we are making contact with a descendant of each sibling of Rhodham & Nancy.

If you will send your address, I'll send copies of Rhodham's probate and a collection of info that Mary Brill, Verda Baird and other Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa researchers have provided me or that I obtained during a visit. Also will include update on the restoration of their home in the county park.

Then if you have any info that would update or correct this info, I would appreciate receiving it. I'd also exchange family histories.

Our family had an old Bonifield Bible, which seems to have been lost in a move in Oklahoma sometime between 1990 and 2005. Possible names in the Bible on the Bonifield side:

Arnold Bonnifield & Margaret Moss
Henry Arnold Bonnifield & Rachel R. Atwood
Samuel Taylor Bonnifield, Robert Perry Bonifield, etc
possible other inlaws: Malinda Walker? Mary Jane Mahaffey? Alexander Mahaffey?
Matilda Bonnifield

Has anyone any information on Matilda Bonnifield (I have also seen it spelled Bonifield and Banefield).

Indiana (Hendricks County) records indicate she married Caleb M. Embree on 25 Dec 1833 [Source: Family History Library, Salt Lake City, UT
Microfilm:	1316561 - 1316562
Also http://199.8.200.229/db/marriages_search.asp]

This is about the only date I trust in the information I now have! 1850 census records show Caleb M. and Matilda Embree in Monroe Co., Missouri with a batch of kids, but lists the parents ages as 28 and 24, which would seem to imply that they were 11 and 7 years old when married which I tend to doubt.

My connection is through Sarah Jane Embree, whom I believe to be a daughter, born about 1835/1837, who married Benjamin F. Branham in Monroe Co. in 1857 (her name is spelled "Embry" in the extract of the marriage, which is all I have seen to date).

The 1860 census shows Caleb, now married to second wife Mary (James) still in Monroe Co. and aged 41 - not consistant with 1850 census or (probably) marriage date.

I'm confused - HELP!.

Hi,

I just posted an old birth announcement for S. J. BONNIFIELD, Jr. & his wife of Winnemucca, NV, who had a baby girl.
This was scanned from an original issue (NOT microfilm!) of the Gold Hill Daily News (Gold Hill, NV) dated December 6, 1879, and you can see it online here:

http://theoldentimes.com/sjbonnifield79humboldtnv.html

I hope it's helpful!

Barbara
http://theoldentimes.com/births.html
http://theoldentimes.com
I'm a descendant of West Benson Bonnifield. West was one of Nancy and Rhodham's 13 children. In the year 1840 Cholera killed Nancy & Rhodam & 3 of their children during the third winter in the log cabin in Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa. The father died at the age of fifty-two and the mother at the age of fifty. From a grave stone that I visited in the cemetary of the old cabin homestead Sarah & Elizabeth were two of the 3 kids who died. Thanks partially to the helpful nature of members of this group, I have been gifted with pictures of West, Martha, Gregory, Anzeletta and I'm expecting Ellis in the mail shortly. If you do the math there are still some gaps in the collection. The generosity and the knowledge of the value of these images that we share is priceless. If anyone has pictures of Rhodahm's children please pass them on to me, and I'm happy to resipricate for your album. Many thanks to my widely extended Bonnifield family.
Katherine
Arnold Bonnifield and Margaret Tabb Moss

The only information I have for Arnold Bonnifield is was born August 26, 1780, in Frederick County, MD. The year might have been 1786 as I have received conflicting information from family members. He was the son of Gregory Bonnifield and Sarah Henley. I do not know the date or place, but he married a woman named Margaret Tabb Moss and they had a daughter, Rachel, in 1804. Rachel is my 4th great-grandmother and she was married in Shenandoah, Page County, VA, so the her parents probably lived there or near there. Rachel's five youngest children were born in Jefferson County, IA. Of the other ten children she had six were born in Culpepper County, VA, three were born in Zanesville, Muskingum County, OH, and one in Jefferson County, OH. Please let me know if this matches anything you have on Arnold Bonnifield, his wife, or daughter.

Shena M. David

Sue,

By any chance do you have a copy of Abe Bonnifield's diary? This is not his 1856 autobiography, but a journal. A cousin (now deceased) in Florida told me she saw it in the archives of the University of West Virginia, but said that she went back a second time and it was gone. I went there also and had no luck finding it. Also, you mentioned the eight volumes of letters. Could you tell me if tese volumes had names like the Maxwell letters, the Bonnifield letters?

my husband says that the library in W Va may have copies of the 8 volumes. You could look at their site to figure that out- I looked there one day but just looked up books by CJ/s brother, Hu Maxwell. A cousin in Cal. has written a book with photos about the 8 brothers that is quite nice. They cost 25 dollars, I think. we have a bunch of them and she will print one out for you and send it to you if you are interested in starting there. Sue

I did talk to them last year about the possibility of copying them and then I might find a way to do it myself. I think some people in the family have copies but I am not sure who- I know someone in Cal has about half of them. Sue

Thank you for the info Sue. Did you purchases these volumes or where did you get them? I looked to see if perhaps the LDS church had filmed them but it doesn't appear they have. Maybe the Library of Congress has a copy? I'd like to look thru the info. Do you know of a library which has a copy or a place I could purchase them?

Thanks for your help. : )) Linda

These eight bolumes are written by the family of Rufus Maxwell and Sarah Jane Bonnifield Maxwell. It is a typed copy, by one of their sons of all their papers- over 3000 pages- it has poetry, letters, journals, you name it it is in it. I havn't even read much of it yet, but am about to take on the task of reading the entire set. A cousin of my husband has written a book with beautiful photos about their 8 sons. She lives in Calif. and I discovered her after I sent this post. They are totally fascinating people- I can't wait to really dig into it. Take care- Sue

My great grandmother 's name was Jane Parsons my
great grandfather name was Allen Bonnifield, my grand-
mother name is Lydia Bonnifield Kirby Moore. My
grandmother told me numerous stories about the family
history. My parents and grandmother died when I was
a child. I am looking for a book my grandmother had by
Hu Maxwell I believe the name is History of Tucker Co.,
and any other information. If this book is still in print I
would like to purchase several copies and would enjoy
writing to relatives .

I also have copies of all of the descendancy books by CJ Maxwell except for the one on the Bonnifields. I have many of the books he wrote as well as news articles. He typed over 3000 pages of the personal papers of Rufus and sarah Jane ( his parents) , and as I said before, they are bound in 8 volumnes. There is a cousin named Brenda Preston who has writen a book about the 8 sons of Rufus- my hsband's grandfather being one of them ( Cyrus Haymond Maxwell Sr).I would like to keep in touch with all of you. I have some interesting articles about the Bonnifields that i havn't even completely read yet. We have boxes of info that is still not organized- it is taking me a long time. My husband's lineage goes back to Robert Maxwell in Penn- then through his son Thomas, then Levi, then Rufus, then Cyrus Sr and then Cyrus Jr. I feel a real kinship with all of these people since I have been reading about them- but there is alot to read. I am a Maxwell by birth, and believe it or not I found an article about my grandfather in my husbands box of loose family materials. That was a startling and providential find for me. Please include me in your conversations as I want to learn more about the Bonnifields.
