I have not done very much research on my Bono line, but they are from Sale Castelnuovo. Nicola Bono came to Arizona in 1906 and died in Globe, Arizona in 1912. He was first cousin to my gr grandfather Fred Bontempo.
I would be interested in finding out Maria and Cristina's parents names. I have many letters from Italy that talks about Nicola Bono and lists many of his relatives.
Next time I am at the Family History Center I will try to look up Maria's baptismal record to find out who her parents were.
I also have Bertoglio's in my Bontempo family. There were many in Arizona as well.
Feel free to contact me directly at patt32@aol.com
Pat

Maria Bono b 1884 left Sale Castelnuovo in 1906. Arrived in Grundy co, IL and married Ignacio Lucca. Her sister Cristina lived there with her husband Giuseppe (James) Bertoglio (also from Sale Castelnuovo). There were 2 other Bono siblings: Battista Bono and Pietro Bono in Ill. at this time. Any addtional information would be appreciated.

She used to talk about Campobello. We think her Fathers name was Salvatore.
Thanks

My husband is Jon Bontempo and his Grandfather Jacomo came to the USA from Castelnouvo (sp) and went to Arizona and began to mine. He later moved to Detroit and had three children, Dominic, Leda, and John. We have some documents but don't know anyone he was possibly related to. We are just on a trial of a week to Ancestry.com but I hope I may have helped you some degree. We know of no one who changed their last name's spelling to Bono or Bonnie. We live in NE Arkansas and we're the only Bontempo's this area. Just as an aside---when I first married Jon, I would go to pick a prescription at my drugstore and they would call me Bonnie Tempo--you'd have to live here to totally get that but I never changed my name to Bonnie but others may have gotten tired of people calling them Bonnie and just changed their name!!!! Just joking but it took me forever to get the people here to understand that Bontempo was my last name. BJ Bontempo

I saw your messages. I am related to Bono's from Sale, Castelnuovo Nigra, very near to Ivrea. Interested in any information you may have on this surname. I have letters from family to my great grandfather in regards to the heirs of a Bono estate. This letter lists all the cousins.
Spain is interesting because my great great grandmother was from Spain. One line is related to the Stallone and Indelicato's, the other to the Lombardo,Tranchida,Romeo,Pisciotta,Mangiaricina....that is also my family line. If any of these names sound familiar, please let me know. I have my family tree dating back to the 1700's all from Campobello. Thanks,
have a great day,
Lori

Lori: I am poking around for info for a friend of mine. Her maiden name is Cheryl Bono. Her father was Peter Bono. She has been told that her grandparents Peter (Pietro) and Mary (Maria) Bono came to USA through Ellis Island sometime between 1890-1900. Her grandfather died in the 70's at age 70 and was said to have been born soon after their arrival. They were from Sicily. He had an older brother they called Santo or Charlie (maybe both were nicknames). I know this isn't much info, but does it tie into anything you know? She doesn't really know where to start and all the old folks are gone.

Hi Lori. Several of the names you mentioned have been part of our family. However, I'm not sure of how each surname is related.
Bono is my great grandmother's surname. First name Santa. I have no dates or info for her except that she and her husband, Antonino Russo, immigrated to US (St. Louis, MO) in 1870.
Prinzivalli is my brother in law. His father is still living.
Tosto - there is a relative of ours - I think his name was Tony and her name was Nellie.

I am searching for information on my husband's paternal grandparents, Calogera Scirica and Accusio or Accursio Bono who emigrated to the US at the early part of the 20th century. I think they may have come from Sciacca, Scicily, but I have very little info on his parents; I don't even know who his aunts and uncles were and his father, Salvatore Bono, died young, when my husband was 15. They lived in the North End of Boston, I think, and I'm trying to flesh out his family tree for my children. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mary

Re: Bono, Julia

I believe that your Julia is descended from William Bono by way of Benjamin Bono (Bonneau). See this website. Someone (who I have yet been unable to contact) has put together a pretty extensive tree on the Bono's (Bonneau's). My thread on this tree is Benjamin, William, Napoleon, William, William (which is actually Rufus Melvin). I know this because I have personally met all other brothers listed and my grandfather Rufus Melvin is only one missing. I know of no William. Try this link:

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/t/o/Lottie-L-St...
