Hi Ron, When looking on ancestor for the Booher family this is the website that came up. http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/6743950/person/-1233903265?pg...
It has the Booher (Butcher) family back into 1566 in Switzerland. They came from Germany to the US.
Hope that this helps you out if you haven't seen it.
Do want the children of Francis Booher and Julia Ann Wilson?
I have a list of them.
Thanks and good hunting, Doris P.Riggs

Hi Ron,

I am so sorry to say that I haven't been doing much reserch on the Booher line. I was doing it for Diane Louise Curley Lee. She was adopted by her grandprents, Anna B. Booher and Harry Barkley Curley when a small child. So she would be age wise a great grand daughter also. She was raised in Youngstown, Ohio. I will ask her if there has been anyone doing research on the family that she knows of.
Good luck in your research and if we find out anything we will let you know. Please keep us posted with any information that you want to, know she would appreciate it also. Thanks so much for your query, Doris Powers Riggs

Hi I am trying to trace my roots and what I am having difficulty with is my great grandparents were Francies aka Frank Booher and my great grandfather was Ervin Woodby, My grandmother (one of there children was Bessie Woodby) who married my grandfather George W. Widner in Sullivan Co, Tn. What I need to know if you can help is where my great grandmother Frances and Ervin had there children, Do you have any of that information, Was in Sullivan co, carter co, was in VA or NC It is so hard and I need this last part, My grandmother Bessie raised her kids in Bristol But I can't figure out where she was born, What I do know is that the Woodby's that are still in Tenn, didn't go with the rest of the cherokee's to Oklahoma. Does anyone have any information for me on this, please contact me at paulamc59@aol.com, thanks, Paula

Re: Cherokee

Virginia Booher of Butler PA married Abner Dechant of Philadelphia, PA in the 1930's. It was her second marriage, his first. They settled in Western PA and had 4 children: Eileen, Grace, Earl and Maryann. (Carl and Melba were children of the first marriage). Family lore held that a direct ancestor of Virginia had "jumped the fence" with a Cherokee just prior to the forced migration West. The story held that some of the family went west to Arkansas and others managed to stay in the area. Don't have artifacts from the family property (still owned by a Booher relative)to support this, but no one has really poked around to see in more than 40 years. Abner and Virginia moved a few times, but Grace (my mother) was brought up in part on the homestead area: a converted and often rebuilt log cabin of sorts. I played there as a kid. Abner was a mail sorter with the railroad for a long while, and a Silver Beaver Scout Master at Camp Agawam nearby. I learned to hold and shoot a rifle at his rifle range on the property with the stories of the Cherokee ghosts on the property and others of the Union army in the Civ War at "camp-outs" in open pup tents with Life Scout hopefuls back then.

I recently found out there was a Booher cemetery in Sheffield Township in Tippecanoe County. According to findagrave.com and interment.com there are only 8 graves, all Boohers.

However, I can't seem to figure out where Alexander fits into any of the Booher family trees.

There is mention in the history of Tippecanoe Co. of an Alexander and Frank Booher who originally settled in the Laramie Creek area, which fits.

Does anyone know anything more?

Thanks!
Karen, near Tippecanoe County

Does anyone have information regarding Martin Booher's daughter Barbara, she is mentioned in his will dated 1724 and the dispute filed by the heirs. In the dispute she is listed as the wife of George Hughes. The will states that she may have also been married to a John Poe.

"13th: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Babara, her and her heirs forever, twelve hundred forty eight dollars, provided she dont never take up with John Poe; if she ever takes up with him again, it is my desire for her to have one dollar, and no more, to be paid one half two years after my death, and the balance in four years."

I am researching her daughter Catherine and there seems to be some confusion with regards to her father, some trees list her as Catherine Poe while others use Hughes. Daughter Catherine married Christian Christopher Elkins and they had a son George Hugh Elkins. I would like to clear up George Hugh Elkins ancestry. Any help would be great.

Hardin KY Booher DNA Matches Bucks Co. PA Boughers/Buchers

Hoping Bill Joyce will catch this Booher news (Bill, tried your old email but it isn't working)

Bill, we got a Y-DNA test on your Hardin Co. KY Booher line (thanks to descendants Cookie Paulson and Kenneth Booher) and it identifies your Boohers are NOT related to the Peter Booher/Bucher (1735-1807) of Fayette Co. PA as most people speculated in the past.

Instead the Hardin KY Boohers are a branch of the Bucks Co. PA Bougher/Bucher family (see Jacob Bucher of Bucks Co. on my site at http://www.SearchTrees.com/tree/3630.htm )

A Jacob Booher b.abt.1790 sired the Hardin Co. Booher line and matches 35 out of 37 Y-DNA markers with the Bucks Co. family. Therefore the thinking is he is a grandson of Jacob of Bucks Co.

Jacob of Hardin's father is likely Jacob of Bucks' son Isaac Bucher/Bougher, since years back I had found a note in an old research piece at the PA Historical Society Library saying Isaac was never found in Bucks Co. records because he went to Hardin Co. KY. So, there you go! Searching now for evidence of Isaac in the years 1785 to 1820 anywhere along the Ohio River between West Point, KY and western PA where his brother John Bucher/Bougher's descendants became wealthy in the boat/steamboat business transporting people on the river.

It's also possible Jacob of Hardin is the Jacob b.1793 to said John Bucher/Bougher (born 1773 in Durham Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania who died 9 Oct 1855 in Fayette City, PA.)

Summmary: Jacob of Hardin Co. KY was sired by Isaac or John, one of the sons of Jacob Bucher/Bougher of Bucks Co. PA

Your Hardin Co. KY Boohers are in our DNA Group R-002 which is a most curious collection of related immigrants who arrived in America at vastly different times and places:

1) Hans Ulrich Bucher/Booher (1686-1750) of Frederick, VA who spawned many other Booker/Booher lines in the midwest
2) Casper Bucher/Booher (1755-1831) of Huntingdon Co. PA
3) John Wesley Bucher (1802-1868) died Hancock Co. WV
4) Jacob/John/Abraham Bucher/Bougher of Bucks Co. PA
5) John Beecher (1594-1637) who came to CT from Kent, England in 1637 (line of Henry Ward Beecher & Harriett Beecher Stowe)

However, while these are all Y-DNA related in the 1500's or 1600's in Germany, your KY line is only closely related in the 1700's in America to the Bucks Co. line, per the 37-marker DNA test.

We publish our Booher/Bucher Y-DNA results online at http://www.SearchTrees.com/dna and also at http://www.FamilyTreeDNA.com/public/bucher

For any other Boohers who are curious about DNA: Any male with surname Booher, Bougher, Bucher or variant spelling can be easily tested by mail to find out which line they are or are not related to. To date we've tested 76 males and have identified in America 6 different Booher lines and 13 different Bucher lines.

Search The Booher Database for Your Ancestor

If you are researching the Booher surname, a group of family researchers are building a large database with the different Booher family trees that began back in the 1700's in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. That way, we won't mix families up by mistake.

As of 7/2008 the trees have...

3970 Boohers
3926 Buchers (some Boohers were originally Buchers)

http://www.SearchTrees.com is the site.

For those who like using Rootsweb, there's a link on the page to get to our Rootsweb version.

Please alert us to any corrections or additions you have. Getting good Booher data in one place helps everyone make accurate trees.

Chloe Desie Booher b.1909 married Castle Winningham. You can see her line on our Booher research site at:
http://www.SearchTrees.com/tree/24261.htm

That tree is compliments of Booher experts Barbara Grider and Helen Wood, who have been working on Booher genealogy for many years. They are part of our Booher DNA project that is proving which lines are related. We have more than 4000 Boohers in that database now, in all the various Booher lines.

I'll email you and put you in touch with Helen and Barbara, too.

Booher DNA Test Costs Reduced

Using DNA testing we've identified 7 unique Booher lines in the 1700's in America, and having tested about 80 males, we are at the point where any MALE with surname Booher taking the test is likely to discover which Booher ancestor line he is related to and those he is not. See http://www.SearchTrees.com/dna for our Booher DNA results where we have many, many success stories proving and disproving Booher relationships hundreds of years ago.

During September only, the firm we use for our Booher DNA project is having a sale greatly reducing prices, so if you've been thinking about testing, it's time to jump in!

A Y-DNA-37 marker test normally $189 is now only $119 during September.

A Y-DNA 12 marker test now includes a free test for your maternal (mtDNA) as well as Y-DNA paternal lines, normally $189 together, now $99 for both.

See the research site above for a link to the test info and how to participate in the research.

The paternal ancestry Y-DNA test works for males with surname Booher (or variant spelling). If you are a female, get a cousin, uncle, brother, grandfather or any Booher male known to be related to yours to test.

Boohers from PA this thread was originally about.

The Poe/Booher relationships are in the line of immigrant Bartholowmew Booher/Bucher of MD/VA.

If you send me your info, I can help you with your connections.
Frances BOOHER m. Benjamin Stephen TEDDER

Seeking information on Frances BOOHER m. Benjamin Stephen TEDDER

Wise Co., VA Marriage Index as follows: Aug 26, 1907-TEDDER, B.S, Father: William Tedder, Mother: Mary Tedder - BOOHER, Francis, Father: F.P. Booher, Mother: Annie Booher

However, I find no other evidence to prove that Fred BOOHER and Annie VICARS had a child named Frances or Francis. She does not appear listed with them in the 1880 census. According to her headstone she was b. 1874 d. 1957.

According to 1910 census McDowell Co., WV, she is married to Steven TEDER, is 41 yrs old, this is her 2nd marriage and she has had 8children/4living.

Her children with Stephen TEDDER appear to be Bessie age 5; Tebia or Febia age 4; and Lola age 2/12. The other child listed is a step-son to Stephen TEDDER and the name is very difficult to read, could be Ezra or something else, but he is 7yrs old and his last name is listed as BOOHER.

I do not find the family in the 1920 or 30 census and I do not find a Frances or Francis BOOHER in 1900 census which would fit this Frances.

If anyone has information or ideas, it would be most welcome.

Regards,
JC

Hi, thanks for contacting me. Freddy's mother,Nancy M. Henderson was my Greatgrandmother's sister. Their parents, Robert John and Agnes Henderson, took Freddy to live with them when his Mother died, when he was born, I believe. They moved from Illinois/Misouri to Montana and they lived the rest of their life there and are buried in Rygate,Montana. I know my GGmother kept in touch with Freddy, because of entries in her address book when he was in the service...she died in 1969. I have pictures of Freddy as a boy with his grandparents, I thought someone might like to see them. Please contact me at my e-mail address kbailey@grics.net Thank you, Kelly

Isaac Henry Booher, the brother of Don Alonzo Booher, was born in Hardin County, KY in 1818. There are numerous other brothers and sisters.

His parents were Jacob Booher (born in Bucks County, 1790) and Jane Wattles.

Jacob Booher's parents were Isaac Booher and his wife, Margaretha. Jacob's brothers and sisters included George, Henry, Jemima (1782), Sara (1784) and Eleanor (1786). Margaretha and daughter Eleanor later relocated to Tioga County, PA.

Isaac Booher is the son of Jacob Booher (of Bucks County and Boogher Hill) and his wife Jemimah. Jacob's tree is on your site. His brothers and sisters were Ann, Johann, Daniel, Jacob and Abraham (1763). This is the Abraham who married Sarah Heinlien and is included in your test.
