Really, I guess my question is what should I do with this thing? Do Universities or historical societies want stuff like this? If anyone knows the general locality of this family--Connecticut?--I'd like to send it to the local library.
I'm not interested in selling it.

I have 2 very small kids, consequently not a lot of time to really analyze what's in there. Many entries in terms of who owes him for cider or plowing, day to day type stuff which is interesting in and of itself if you're a nerd like me. I've barely looked at it, though.
Joseph Booth ledger book

While cleaning my grandpa's condo, my mom found a ledger book belonging to Joseph Booth, dating from the 18th century. The first page is torn, the second page lists Hannah, Mehitabel, Mary, David, Rebekah, Joseph, John, Eunice, Stephen and Sarah BOOTH and their dates of birth. The book is a list of accounts, last entry being in the 1780s, and there is a lot of doodling and practice signatures.

It must have been purchased at an antique shop or something, as I'm not related to the Booth line as far as I know.

Yes I would love more info. I need to go thru records and find my grandfather's fathers full name, DOB. His mom's maiden name and so on. My grandfather George Franklin Strong had several brothers. One was named Jack Strong. I think he was a doctor or dentist, but believe he was a doctor. George Franklin Strong married Doris Evelyn Allbrooks. They had a Daughter in 1925 named Doris Evelyn Strong, and her nickname was "Charlie". That was my mom. She died of cancer in 1984 in Arlington, Va. If you think you might have info on any of these Strongs please contact me. I have been ill so haven't been able to do alot of research, or been able to go thru paperwork I have. Maybe our Strongs are not related. Because my grandfather swore he was a relative of John Wilkes Booth. If you can find anything out I would appreciate it. Thanks again.

This is what I have Pleasant Strong married Sarah Booth on Nov 28, 1817 in Tn. They moved to Alabama shortly after that. Sarah (Sally) was the daughter of Peter and ELizabeth Booth. Sarah(Sally) was born on apr. 1798 in Va. Her father Peter wasborn in 1764 in Va. died 1826 in Va. Peter's father was John Booth he was born in 1735 in Va. died 1809 in va. John father was Thomas born in 1705 in Va. died 1766 in Va. JOhn's father was George Booth 1679 in Va. died 1763 in Va. George father was Humphery Booth born 1660 in 1660 in Va. I have not found anything about John W. Booth in the family . As for the Strong family Pleasant Strong was the son of George and Mary "Polly" (East) Strong. Pleasant was born 1798 and died 1853 his siblings where Nancy born 1799, Hopson born 1801, Robert born 1802, Charles Waite born 1804. Pleasant and Sarah (Sally) children where: Sarah A born 1829, Penelope J Strong born 1819, Robert H born 1820, Mary P born 1827, George F born 1832. I have more information on the family. If you would like more let me know

Do you know or have you heard of any relation to the Strong family in Alabama whom are related to John Wilkes Booth? My grandfather George F. Strong told us several times thru the years that we are related to JWB. My grandmother Doris would get angry and make him hush. I found relatives down south and we have a Larkin Booth in the family. My Grandmothers sister in law that was married to one of the other Strong Brothers said it is true. She has since passed. The computer that I did all of the research on back in 1996-97 crashed and I lost eveything.I would be very interested in DNA testing. My brother gave his little boy the Larkin Booth name due to the info I had gathered back then. Thanks the link to your website doesn't work

Hi, you may as well add the name Strong into your connection to the JWB family. My grandfather was very proud of his relation to JWB. My grandmother use to tell him to hush his mouth every time he would tell the grandchildren we were related to John Wilkes Booth. She was tight lipped about this info also.I reached some relatives in 1996 in Alabama. We have a Larkin Booth down south, in our family After doing research my brother named his son Larkin Booth ..... I do not want to give my nephews last name here he is just a boy.I was told by my grandfather George Strong, and his siter in law that we are related to JWB. I am interested in getting DNA testing to confirm this. I need to find the name of my grandfathers mother and other decendants on that side. I know my granddad was from Birmingham, Alabama.

Hello Margaret,

I haven't worked on this line in years but would still love to get more on if I even have the right mother (Hannah Beardmore) and John Booth, I really think it is but some of the dates I know aren't really right but that was what I could find at the time. I have what is on his head stone but that would make him being born February 25, 1817 not February 13, 1818 (on the headstone it says he lived 80years 4months and 18days). If you have anything to help I would love to share what I have.

Thanks,
Diane

I am searching a line from the same George Boothe, however my line goes from George, Sr to George, Jr, to Robert who married his cousin Ada(h). Ada(h) was the daughter of Isaac (another son of George, Sr.). Robert and Adah settled in Lawrence county, Ohio between 1816 and 1818. They had a son Flemon (Fleming) in 1819. This branch of the family basically stayed in Lawrence Co. Oh, eventually moving across the river to Huntington, WV.

I'm interested in sharing information. At the moment I'm stuck on Fleming's birth. Ohio has no records. I believe there is a family bible out there somewhere.

Hi all. To those who are researching the John Booth/Hannah Beardmore lines, Sampson Booth is not one of their children. His mother was a Annie Booth. She was never married from what we have been able to put together. Sampson had a older brother names John H. Booth. Annie was b. abt 1772 in England and d. 24 Feb. 1855 in Wayne Twp, Monroe Co., Ohio. She is buried in the Old Conner Ridge Methodist Cemetery, Monroe Co., Ohio.

John H. Booth was b. abt 1804 in Alton, Staffordshire, England d. 18 July 1861 in Wayne Twp, Monroe Co., Ohio. He married Mary Ann Gosling on 20 Nov. 1826 in Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. She was b. abt 1807 in England d. 7 Oct. 1861 Wayne Twp, Monroe Co., Ohio. They are both buried in the Old Conner Ridge Methodist Cemetery, Monroe Co., Ohio. John and Mary had 4 children that we have been able to find, all were born in England.

Sampson Booth was b. 27 Feb. 1814 in Alton, Staffordshire, England d. 21 Jan. 1871 in Jefferson Co., Kansas. He married Ellen Oakden on 4 Feb. 1837 in Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. She was b. 1 March 1812 in Alton, Staffordshire, England d. 25 Aug. 1884 in Jefferson Co., Kansas. They are buried in the Spring Grove Cemetery, Valley Falls, Kansas. They are my gg-grandparents. Sampson and Ellen had 11 children, 2 born in England, 6 born in Ohio and 3 born in Indiana. Annie, along with John and Sampson and their families, came to the United States on June 8, 1840 aboard the Oxford.

For a long time we believed John Booth and Hannah Beardmore to be Sampson's parents because of what is on the LDS site. Family information on the site is put there by people like you and me who have been researching their families, it is not always correct. The census reports and other records seem to be okay to use.

Hi Dianne,Sorry to be so long getting back to you. I have been going over what info I have and have printed off some thing that the site for The Latter Day Saints have checked, I dont know much about them but they seem to go into records, so the info must be trustworthy. Here,s what I have found, John Booth B 2nd Dec 1782.M 25th Dec 1809. D 16th Aug 1860.Belmont, Ohio. Hannah Beardmore B 9th Mar 1782.Croxden Parish, England. D. 11th Aug. 1881. Monroe Co, Ohio. !st born child, Matthew Booth, B 19th Feb 1810 Staffordshire. M, Elizabeth Burcher,1837. but does,nt say where!. The next one I found was Isaac Booth, Christening, 26th Dec, 1813, Sampson Booth, B, England, D, 21st Jan, 1871 Spring Grove Jefferson, KS. M, Ellen Oakden 4th Feb 1837, Stoke upon Trent, Staffordshire. John Booth, B 13th Feb 1818, Staffordshire, Spouse, Jane,? Hannah Booth, B, 22nd Jan, 1824, Staffordshire, M, David Pyles Lowe, D,July 1851. Geoege I Booth,B, 1825, Belmont, Ohio, 1825, D,22nd Dec 1863,Evansville, Warrick In. M, Hannah Lowe 22nd June 1845,Aurelius, Washington, Oh. I think there were other children, but I havent got round to them yet. I think my relationship to Hannah, would be very distant cousins, something like a 6th cousin. Well, i cant think of anything else to tell you, so Bye for now, Margaret,
PS. if this sounds like there is a Link, would very much like to keep in touch, My youngest daughter, Maxine, spent three months in Dayton, Ohio, when she left school, many years ago. Most of the info is on compact disks.

Hello Diane, I have only just seen your request for anyone connected to the Beardmore family. I know that it was some years ago that you posted this, but I hope you are still interested. I am a direct decendent of Hannah I believe. My grandmother was Lizzie Beardmore, daughter of Charles Beardmore and Eliza Charlesworth. They go back to Thomas Beardmore 1744 1831. and his wife Ann Kent 1749 1859. Hannah is born 1782 1881. She married John Booth in Staffordshire, in 1809.Matthew, The first child, was born in Staffordshire, but it seems like all their other children were born in America. I am new to all this so I hope I am getting it right!. my name is Margaret Burrows, wife of Rayboy2, Hope to hear from you soon.
regards, Margaret.

Henry Booth 1893-1943 Nottinghamshire, father ?Colin Booth

I'm hoping someone can assist me in tracing more on my OH's grandfather Henry Booth. We believe he was born 13.3.1893 but he told the family he was born in Dinnington, Yorkshire and we can't trace a birth certificate, nor can we locate him on the 1901 or 1911 census at present. We don't know whether he had another given name. We have been looking at whether he was in fact born in Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire and perhaps spent part of his childhood in Dinnington but can't at present find anything.

We have a marriage certificate from 1915 when he married Florence Ethel Noon in Worksop that gives his father's name as Colin, occupation coal miner. This would suggest Colin should be born in maybe the 1870s when it was an unusual name but again, we're drawing a blank on the BMD side and on the censuses.

He died in 1943 in Ilkeston, and his widow remarried; his children were May, Ron, Lily, Ken and Joyce. Any help would be welcome!

Re: John Wilkes Booth family

Hi Pat,

Everyhing you read is the product of someone's mind and some
times those minds aren't hitting on all eight cylinders. When looking at John Wilkes Booth you really have to throw out everything we learned as children in school; so much of that came from Edwin Stanton who was trying to protect the Radicals in Congress. You have to look at John Wilkes pre- and post-assassination. Before he was the most handsome man on the American stage, maids ripped his bedsheets to shreds for souveneirs. Afterwards, he was demonized and I really believe that Lincoln biographers, especially Carl Sandberg, went a long way to doing that; after all, to deify one you must demonize the other.

As far as a lot of "hints" on Ancestry, unfortunately some of them are not accurate, and from my own experience, once a name/date/place gets entered (even if it's incorrect) it gets copied and spreads like a brushfire. It may take longer but I am inclined to rely on my own research.

If I can be of any assistance to you, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Best regards,
Suzie Nash

Hello Laura, My earliest known Booth was Ruth Booth, born about 1792 in the Tullamore, Ireland area. Her father was George. They were originally Church of Ireland members, then, I believe Baptists - very unusual for Ireland. Any connection?
