Charles Alfred Booth and Ada Isabel Lambert

Looking for anyone who might have information about a Charles Alfred Booth (born 1870 at Tranmere, Cheshire) and his wife Ada Lambert (born 1873 at Liverpool). Charles Alfred's parents were George Henry Booth and Margaret Anne Sharp. Charles and Ada had 2 children: Charles Leslie born 1897 and Gladys Isabel born about 1899. Both children born near Peckham, London. Charles Alfred's occupation in 1901 was a Leather Factory Clerk. Charles Leslie (1897) died in WW 1 in 1915. I would love to hear from anyone who might be related. Or, who knows anything of Gladys.

George BOOTH married Mary Ann LEDIARD in Birmingham in 1835. I think that George was born out of the Warwickshire area (around 1810) and died in Aston during the 1840s. I have been unable to positively trace his parents or county of birth, and I would be grateful for assistance in this matter.

Booth Family Bible

In the mid-70's I purchased a family Bible in an antique store in Montgomery, Alabama. This Bible was presented to Lydia A. Canfield by her father on September 27,1873 or 1878. In the center of the Bible are family records containing the following information:

Marriages:

Elam Booth was married to Sybil Ingalls on December 25, 1828.
R. H. Canfield was married to Lydia A. Booth on January 22, 1873.

Births:

Elam Booth was born May 25, 1807
Sybil Booth was born September 27, 1807
Alonzo Booth was born October 13,1831
Warren Booth was born September 13, 1836
Lydia A. Booth was born Februrary 16, 1847
Ray H. Canfield was born July 16, 1844

Booth Pedigree:

Lydia born 1847
Elam born 1801
Isaac born 1765
Isaac born 1739
Joseph born 1710
Zechariah born 1666
Simeon born 1641
Robert landed at New Haven, Conn 1639

Deaths:

Sybil Booth died August 20, 1872
Elam Booth died November 2, 1882
Alonzo Booth died September 3, 1910
Warren Booth died January 2, 1916
Lydia A. Canfield died September 15, 1933
R. H. Canfield died March 2, 1917

There is also an original marriage certificate which reads as follows:

This is to certify that I have this day united Mr. R. H. Canfield and Miss Lydia A. Booth both of Concord Erie Co. N. Y. in the bonds of marriage.
Hamburg Jan. 22, 1873

B. C. VanDuzee, Pastor of Free Baptist Church of Hamburg

I know with the current interest in family history that someone in the Booth family should really be the custodian of this family heirloom. If you are interested and this is the right family, please either email me or call at (208) 323-8213 MDT.

looking for my great-grandmother whose maiden name could be Booth, according to a memory of it being spoken aloud just once [other possibilities Book, Boone, etc.] with a rather strong Lancashire accent.
She was called Mary Elizabeth born around 1899-1901 [newspaper article gives her year of birth as 1901 but death certificate gives her age as being 67 when she died on 24th may 1966]. Mary married William Edwards before 1925ish [she had three children with Danny Evans sometime after the marriage], but probably sometime after about 1918 [i.e. the approximate year she turned 18]. In the Lancashire or Yorkshire area.
Please help if you can, any information, especially a confirmation of her maiden name, is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sarah [sarahlouise345@hotmail.com]

I'm looking for the birthplace and parents of George Washington Booth, born (according to the California Death Index) on 10 Jul 1861 in Georgia and died 17 Jan 1958 in San Bernardino, California.
I am looking for any information of Col William Aylett Booth. His Booth children are married into Ann Clark Gwathmey children. Ann Clark Gwathmey was William Clark's sister. Catholic William Clark was the partner of Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis and Clark expedition out of Pittsburgh. Some of the Clark family have the last name Booth and some of the Booth's have the last name Clark which sometimes might be spelled Clarke.

There might be a connect to the name Warner as in Warner Hall Lewis family of Meriwether Lewis.

William Clark's son Meriwether Lewis Clark went to West Point with Robert E Lee although he was one year behind. Class of 1830 vs class of 1829 for Robert E Lee.

I am looking for any information on Margaret Booth the chief script writer and head of day to day operations for MGM studios in California during the 1930's. There might be a connection to MGM Studios head Louis B Mayer or his son-in-law David O Selznick from Pittsburgh. Another connection might be through the Riddle family of Glen Riddle Farms in Berlin MD. Louis B Mayer loved horses and purchased a horse from Glen Riddle Farms.

John Hay Whitney financed David O Selznick in the making of several films in Technicolor. John Hay Whitney's grandfather John Hay was Abraham Lincoln's personal secretary.

These people are all in the entertainment industry.

Seeking descendents of Arthur C. Booth, born 11/11/04 in NY, died 5/27/77 in Buffalo, NY. Arthur was the son of Albert William Booth (1878-1906) and his wife Dorothy(?). Albert William Booth died at age 28. Family lore has it that he died as the result of a head injury suffered while working as a sailor on Lake Erie or the Niagara River. I believe Dorothy remarried a gentleman named George Clark and had at least one more child, perhaps named B. Albert Clark (from 1920 Census - Buffalo). Would like to connect with cousins I have never met. I am descended from Albert W. Booth's brother, Orson Shepard Booth. Thanks

JAMES BOOTH from Yorkshire, England to Simcoe Co.

I am looking for information about my great-great-great-grandfather James Booth from Yorkshire England. He was born in Wortley a suburb of present day Leeds on July 29, 1811. James had siblings - Elizabeth, Samuel, John, and Willm. I'm not sure where or when, but James Boorth married Elizabeth Clapham, daughter of William Clapham.

James and Elizabeth apparently met in Philadelphia and married in the US and had 13 children - Israel, Mathew, John, William1, William2, Hannah, James, Joseph, Samuel, Thomas, Mary Alice, Elizabeth, and John Francis. Ten of the children were born in the US before the family moved to Ontario where they settled at Tolldendale, Medonte Twp., Simco Co. James was a bridge watchman and textile weaver.

Elizabeth (Clapham) Booth died and James married Emily Lucy (b. May 2, 1831, d. August 16, 1914) and they had 10 children: Willima, Richard, Martha Jane, Andrew James, Robert Booth, Mary Elizabeth, Jennette, Arthur, Emily, and John.

Many of these families apparently are now settled in the Simcoe County area.

I would appreciate any information regarding births, deaths, marriage dates and burial of James and Elizabeth and their ancestors. Thanks!

Caption John Wilkes Booth

Records at the Versailles cemetery in Pittsburgh shows a Caption John Wilkes Booth born August 11 1835 and died April 16 1907. His wife name was Robin and she was born December 14 1830 and died August 25 1892. Several Brown family members are also buried in this lot.

What is interesting about this is the lot is very near (20 ft) from the McIntyre lot. The McIntyres owned the Iron Works at North Elba where John Brown is buried.

By a Medal of Honor Winner buried at Versailles, records show a connection with this Booth family to the Coopers of Fairle Cooper the granddaughter of Thomas Abthorpe Cooper who was the Father of American Theater.

Thomas Abthorpe Cooper hired John Wilkes Booths father Junius Brutus Booth from England to act in John Jacob Astor's theater in NYC. John Jacob Astor is married to Sarah Todd.

So there seems to be two John Wilkes Booths. One from Baltimore who shot Abraham Lincoln and one from Pittsburgh who is a riverboat caption.

I was wondering if anyone knows about this second John Wilkes Booth. His caption licence is listed on the Web under riverboatdaves/captions. He is also buried with a rather large headstone at Versailles Cemetery in Pittsburgh.

John Wilkes Booth and the Cooper family

In doing more research by cemetery records, I found a connection between John Wilkes Booth and Thomas Abthorpe Cooper the father of American Theater and his daughter Fairlie Cooper. It seems that Thomas Abthorpe Cooper hired John Wilkes Booth's father to act in John Jacob Astor's theater in NYC. John Jacob Astor was married into the Todd's who have some sort of connection to Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. The theater that was remodeled by John Jacob Astor was once a home owned by Aaron Burr. Alexander Hamilton introduced Dolly Payne Todd to James Madison.

The issue I am looking for are the Todd's of John Jacob Astor related to the Todd's of Dolly Madison and Mary Todd? Mary Todd was married to Abraham Lincoln.

This is in addition to the work I am doing on CSA Col John Singleton Mosby who's brother William Harrison Mosby was married to Lucy Booth. This leads to Lewis Thornton Powell from Ft Myers Florida who was a raider under the command of Col John Singleton Mosby. Lewis Thornton Powell was also known as Lewis Payne. He was hung for Abraham Lincoln's death.

Grinnell H. BOOTH Westfield NJ HS Class of 1926

I'm seeking information on, and descendants of, a Grinnell H. BOOTH, who graduated with the Class of 1926 of Westfield NJ High School.

He lived at 553 Prospect Avenue with his parents, Thomas J. (Jackson?) BOOTH and Marguerite L. Booth, during the approximate period 1921-1938, as the family is listed continuously during those years in the Westfield NJ city directories. In the last of these, Grinnell is shown with a wife Geraldine BOOTH. Before 1928, Grinnell is listed as a student, and after that, as a clerk.

The family moved to Westfield NJ from Brooklyn NY, where Grinnell BOOTH was apparently born. Thomas BOOTH was an insurance broker in NYC.

On 07 Jan 1928, Grinnell's grandmother, Ophelia G. (Grinnell?) MARSHALL Booth, widow of Henry J. BOOTH, died in the Prospect Avenue house of her son. She, the daughter of Jackson MARSHALL and Harriet Elizabeth GRINNELL Marshall, was born 04 May 1852 in Oxford GA.
Booth Family Tree

Please help if you can! Am trying to trace my partners side of the family, but got stuck, we know his grandfather was named John Booth (think date of birth 29 nov 1915) passed away sept 1974. During his life John Booth was married to Ethel Hollins, and they had 2 sons David and Bryan. Any information relating to John Booth or further back through that side of our tree (parents and dates) would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks, Emma.

John Wilkes Booth

I am doing research on John Wilkes Booth and his connection to Col John Singleton Mosby and his brother William Harrison Mosby. It's recorded that William Harrison Mosby is married to Lucy Booth. Reports show that Mosby's men helped John Wilkes Booth flee to Southern Maryland after Lincoln was shot. Mosby's men never operated in Southern Maryland before.

The next connection is John Harrison Surratt and his mother Mary Surratt along with Lewis Thornton Powell. Lewis Thornton Powell was in John Mosby's unit for over a year.

Lewis Thornton Powell, John Harrison Surratt and Mary Surratt all were hanged for killing Abraham Lincoln.

So now I am working on the issue that the Mosby's Harrison's Booth's and Powell's might all be related in some way.

The Mosby Society at Leesburg refuses to answer any questions about this so I was wondering if anyone had any insights on this coincidence.

Booth/Wilson of Dublin

The Booth family that I am interested in resided in Dublin. A daughter Martha married a Plewman from Athy. Her parents were James Booth and Anne Wilson of Tullamore. I also believe that Martha may have and a brother Thomas. I also understand that there is a Tapestry about the Booth and Wilson but I don't have access. If any one can help me with the lines of this family I would much appreciate hearing. Thanks Heather

Related to John Wilkes Booth? Probably not.

Many people think they are related to John Wilkes Booth, but the truth is the Booth line that he belonged to was not very fruitful. John Wilkes himself never married, but he was one of twelve children born to Junius Brutus Booth, Sr. Five of those twelve children did not survive to adulthood and two never married. Of the five that did marry, four were male. Of those four men, only one had a son that survived to adulthood and married, but his only son did not survive childhood, so the Booth surname died out for this line.

Richard Junius Booth married Sarah Pearson Ware. They had one surviving son, John Baptist Booth. He married Eliza K Montaden and had 3 daughters and 1 son. Only one daughter appears to have survived to adulthood. (Booth surname died out)

Junius Brutus Booth, Jr had one surviving daughter. She married Byron Douglass and they had no surviving children. (no male survivors)

Edwin Thomas Booth (the famous actor) married (1) Mary Devlin and they had a daughter, Edwina, that married Ignatius R Grossman. They had two children. He then married Mary Frances McVicker, they had a son who died at birth. (no male survivors)

Asia Sydney Booth married John Sleeper Clarke. Of their seven children, only 4 survived to adulthood, producing 3 grandchildren. (Clake surname)

Joseph Adrian Booth married twice and had one son that died in infancy. (Booth surname died out)

Many people mistakenly believe that the family line of the English actor Barton Booth (1683-1733) is connected to the family line of John Wilkes Booth. This is not true. There was also at least one actress that claimed to be the wife of John Wilkes Booth (after he died) and there is no proof that her claim is true. His life has been examined in minute detail and there is no proof that he ever married.

There is at least one actress who used Booth as her stage name in hopes of people thinking she was in some way related to the famous actor Edwin Booth, and other’s may have done the same thing.

As for those with surnames other than Booth that believe they are connected to this line, your odds are higher of finding a connection. The females in the line were more successful in producing offspring that survived. Of course other surnames married into the family also. A great web site to check the surnames associated with the Booth family is http://colacola.tribalpages.com/
Is there anyone here that knows alot on John Wilkes Booths extended family?

If so. . .

I am searching for information on my Great Great Grandfather Milton Bentley Purdy b 29 Aug 1833 d 10 Nov 1925. I have storys or reports that he lived at the same place as JWB for a little while, but my question is more about JWB sister (I don't have a name). Along with living with JWB I am told that he, MBPurdy, worked for a sister of JWB digging for oil.
Is anyone aware of a sister of JWB that was in such a business in anyway and if so could you tell me where and when? Or if you have any information on MBPurdy.

Thank-you.

My Great Grandmother was Lucy Ann Boothe. I have the following data without any sources. I’m told that some of these Booth people were in the Revolutionary Army.

GEORGE BOOTHE, Sr was born 11 April 1737 in Sandwich, Kent, England, and died 1813 in Montgomery County, Virginia. He married PERMELIA CARROLL Abt. 1765. There children included: ABIHAH BOOTHE, born 1771; died Abt. 1882, DANIEL BOOTHE, ELISHA BOOTHE, born Abt. 1766, GEORGE BOOTHE, born 1769 and PERMELIA BOOTHE.

ABIHAH BOOTHE married RHODA ELLEN Howard 29 December 1789. Their children included: AUSTIN BOOTHE, born 1796; died 1870.

AUSTIN BOOTHE married Lucy Harris 13 May 1819. She died Abt. 1852. Their children included REUBEN H. BOOTH, born 1820; died 1904.

REUBEN H. BOOTH married ANNIE E. BURNETT 17 November 1842. He was a Guide to Union General in the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. Their children included LUCY ANN BOOTHE, born 4 February 1845 in Cass County, Missouri; died 28 December 1911 in Cassville, Missouri.

LUCY ANN BOOTHE married GEORGE HENRY MEADOR 24 February 1867 in Cassville, Barry Co., Missouri, the son of NATHANIEL MEADOR and KATHERINE PERDUE. He was born 1 September 1838 in Sumner County, TN, and died 8 February 1904 in Cassville, Barry County Missouri. Their children included JOANNA A. MEADOR, born 3 December 1867 in Hoborr, Barry County, Missouri; died 6 April 1949 in Fayetteville, Ark.

JOANNA A. MEADOR married Alfred Ginsel Henbest 12 September 1886 in Cassville, MO; born 17 May 1862 in Marshall, Clark Co. Ill; died 4 August 1940 in Fayetteville, Ark. They are my grandparents.

I have lots of data on the Pearce, Meador and Henbest families in my Family Tree Maker file. However, my Boothe data was gathered by my late Uncle and I do not have any of his sources or copies of original data.

Do you have sources for this data or more data on the Booth family? I’ll be glad to share anything I have. I can be reached at pearceww@rmi.net

Booths from England to NY, PA, IA

I have so many Booths in my line, and I'd love to make some connections. I am absolutely STUCK on Thomas Booth: I have a digital copy of the 1860 Census from Westfield, New York, which says that he was 82 years old at the time of the census, and his wife was 78. For the life of me, I cannot read the handwriting to decipher his wife's name! My own great-great-great-great grandmother's name is right in front of me and I can't read the handwriting! Grrr! Anyway, they had at least one son named Moses, born in 1817 in Kent. I think they had another son named Issac as well. They came to the States in 1828 (according to an old Iowa historical book printed in 1883).

Anyway, here are some names:

Moses Booth m. Louisa Johnson
children: Isaac, Charles, Mary Ann, John, Caroline, Emily, Harriet, Henry, Ella, Alice, Frank, Fred

Mary Ann Booth m. Soren Christensen
children: Linda, Louis, Luella, Mary, Jesse, LeEtta, Edythe, Frank, Evalyn, Seward

If you have a possible connection, please email me at:

wzrlover@hotmail.com

Vanessa

Thomas Booth (1837-1882) married Mary Ann Wilkes (born 1837) and raised a large family in Birmingham. Since Thomas died relatively young at the age of 46 and I can find no further trace of Mary Ann after the 1881 census, I wondered whether she remarried. If anyone should have any further information about the family I would be glad to hear from them.

Hi

I am trying to trace brothers Thomas & Frederick Booth, both from Little Budworth, Cheshire.

Thomas born 1875 and Frederick 1878 - they are supposed to have gone to USA and Canada - one to each but not sure which way around. I know that my sister did have contact some years ago with someone in USA who was related - unfortunatly no knowledge of who/where!

If anyone has any information I would be pleased to exchange - I do have quite a good tree of relatives over here.

Many thanks

Ed Spann

Betty Lee Booth was married to my uncle Chief John Bush in the 1940's/50's, they probably lived in Norfolk, VA. Robert, her son, would probably be about in his mid 60's now and possibly living in Kentucky. From what I was once told, he is a musician, (guitar?) Robert and I did meet once and I Would love to contact this "cousin". Does anyone know of this person? I have a couple of photos of them.
His step brother John David Bush I believe still lives in Norfolk, but chooses not to communicate. Thank-you. EMAIL address is thumbscat8@aol.com

Booth families buried at Arvonia Cemetery

I am searching for family members of the Booth's who are buried at Arvonia Cemtery, Osage Co., KS. They are: Alfred Ernest, Alice A., Cora Ann (King), Helen, Helen A. (Moore), Ida L., Jeremy T., Joseph C. Sr., Joseph C. Jr., Lloyd T., Onieta Dell, Robert Willis, Sarah O. and Thomas S..

I am working on a book for the Osage Co., KS Historical Society that will cover the people who are buried at the Arvonia Cemetery, located near Arvonia, KS. I would like to include birth-death-burial dates, parents & siblings, cause of death and any interesting family information; such as where they came from, military history, family lore, occupations, etc. I will NOT be listing any birth dates of living individuals and any information used will be the type that is easily accessible by anyone.

I have a list of burials that is a compiled list from two different sources but it only covers up through the early 1990’s. I hope to complete this list to include all burials up until now.

If you would like to add any information to your ancestor/family member’s listing, please contact me directly at newtonmac@msn.com . Please type “Arvonia Cemetery” in the subject line so I don’t miss your email. With 800+ burials, I cannot list all the names here so I’m listing the surnames. If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to help. Keep in mind that most of the ladies are buried under their married names. If you’re not sure if your family member is buried in Arvonia, contact me and I’ll check for you.

Albert, Angles, Antrim, Atchison, Austin, Hart, Bailey, Barnett, Barr, Bebb, Behrendt, Benson, Blake, Bontz, Booth, Boring, Bosley, Botkin, Boyce, Briggs, Brower, Bugg, Campbell, Chambers, Clark, Clotfelter, Cosley, Cottrell, Cowden, Crabtree, Crippen, Davies, Davis, Decker, Dobson, Edison, Edwards, Elishan, Ellis, Evans, Felton, Ferguson, Frye, Funston, Gavin, Goodwin, Graham, Gray, Griffith, Griffiths, Hamman, Harris, Harvey, Hebbe, Henry, Herr/Haerr, Hilding, Hillis, Holmquist, Hooper, Hotchkiss, Hughes, Humphreys, Jenkins, Jennings, Jensen, Jeremy, Jernigan, Jessee, Jones, Kesler, King, Kirk, Knight, Larson, Leach, Lewis, Lloyd, Lowman, Maloney, Marker, Mays, Metzger, Miller, Mochamer, Monfort, Moore, Morgan, Morris, Moses, Near, Nesbitt, Newlee, Newman, Newton, Ormsby, Owens, Padgett, Parker, Parrey, Parry, Peterson, Pettay, Phillips, Pickens, Powell, Prentice, Price, Protheroe, Rees, Reynolds, Rich, Richards, Roberts, Robinson, Rouland, Rumph, Samuel, Sanderson, Schedel, Shepard, Shirley, Sloan, Small, Smith, Southworth, Spillman, Standiferd, Stephens, Sterrett, Still, Tankersley, Terril, Terrion, Thomas, Thompson, Trueblood, Umdenstock, Walker, Wallace, Ward, Watkins, Whaner, Whildin, White, Williams, Williamson, Wilson, Witherspoon, Woodin

Anita (Newton) McKinney
Colorado Springs, CO
William Booth (1829-1912), born Nottingham, England, Methodist Minister, Founder of "Salvation Army"

Booth is the name of a family that became known for leadership in the Salvation Army. Many men who married into the Booth family added the Booth name to their own.

William Booth (1829-1912) founded the Salvation Army. He had been a Methodist minister, but withdrew from the church in 1861 to dedicate his life to work among the poor. In 1865, he and his wife, Catherine, began evangelistic work in London. They held open-air meetings and brightened the lives of the poor people in the East End of the city. They organized their converts into a mission band. This later developed into the semimilitary organization that in 1878 was named the Salvation Army.

The organization's meetings, its stirring music, and the zeal and self-denial of its workers soon became well known. Booth was raised to the highest rank, that of general. He wrote many of the hymns sung in Army meetings, and founded the weekly newspaper of the organization, "The War Cry." His book, "In Darkest England," presents his ideas on how to deal with vice and poverty. At first Booth was ridiculed and violently opposed, but he later gained the highest respect.

His children and grandchildren have carried on the Salvation Army's important humanitarian programs worldwide.

Harry and Ella Booth

I have old photos of these people...from my Dad but have no clue where they fit in the family. I think Ella's mom was a Christine McCard married to a Charles. I am only guessing at this info. The booths lived on a farm in Berrien Center, Michigan. The old photos have Herbster Wis on the back..taken around 1945, so not sure when they lived in Michigan. In 1942 there is a photo of Christine McCard in Ill. and later the Booths and Christine along with my Dad, his Mom, my sister and I in Ill about 1955/56.

I do know that Christine was born in Carnisi, NY in 1872. She died in Downer's Grove, Ill in 1961. Her parents were born in Germany from a census. Charles was born about 1864 in Michigan, his father from NY, his mother from Ind.

Anyone know these people???

Edward Booth (1810-12 to after 1880) & Sallie Ann Payne (1822 - aft. 1870)

Edward Booth was born in North Carolina & married Sallie Ann Payne who was born in Virginia, prior to 1848. Their children: Albert, Samuel Cornelius, James, Verlona, Harriet, Mary, Joseph Jopling, Robert Walton, Emily, and Virginia were born in Tennessee or Mississippi. The family then settled in Kentucky where Edward and Sallie both died. Sallie's father was Cornelius Payne, a Baptist Preacher, and her mother was Louisa Ann Walton. I can find nothing on Edward's family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
