Rev Frank Ernest Boothroyd of England

Rev Frank is my g grandfather. He was born in 1877 in England, maybe Notts.

He did Methodist missionary work in Nfld in 1901 and married Mabel Theobald (1881) from Doncaster, Yorks abt 1909.

They moved to Canada, where he helped found the United Church of Canada in 1925.

I cannot find him anywhere in the UK. There are many Boothroyd's around Yorkshire area, but none of the families from the censuses have seemed a fit (ie the census Frank is still in UK when my Frank is in Canada).

Any Brits out there have an idea? I've tried contacting the Methodist archives, but it's the August holiday.

Hi Sue,
Thanks for your message. I have emailed Paul recently with some of the info about family origins which I have. Perhaps he would forward you my ramblings for your amusement. I shall have to give some thought to putting a site together myself. It might include a Yorkshire dictionary amd the authentic repipe for Yorkshire Pudding and stuff like that. My sister was a historian and she had some interesting stuff about the arrival in Britain of the Celtic groups which we are descended from. Not strictly genealogy, but fascinating!

Hello,

I am Suzanne Blake, and Allen is my father. Is Peter Sheardown related to the Thomas Sheardown who married Susannah Ward 19 August 1794 at Saint Marylebone, London?

A Peter Sheardown transcribed my Great great grandmother's birth on FreeBMD at www.rootsweb.com. She was Priscilla Charlotte Riddall and she married Edward Francis Roche.

We have been trying to trace the Wards for a long time.

My Great Great Great Grandparents were James Roche and Frances Ward who were marrried in 1820 at St. Georges, Hanover Square, London.

Best wishes

SUZANNE BLAKE

Hi, looking for George Washington Boothroyd and his brother William Harrison Boothroyd, they left Yorkshire and were believe to have gone to the California goldfields. Around the 1860s the brothers started a roadhouse 8 miles north of Lytton, British Columbia, Canada. George married an Indian lady, Mary, in Lytton and eventually settled in Surrey, B.C. William (Harry) became a teacher in Yale, B.C., then disappears from family history. Thank you.

I am looking for the ancestors of Sarah Boothroyd b, Jul 1855 in England who married
Thomas Mather b, Oct 1850 in England. They immigrated to U.S., Fall River, MA in 1870 and married in 1870.

Boothroyds

I was expecting a birthplace somewhere in the area of Wakefield in Yorkshire! So it is a sort of co-incidence. However it does strike me that Boothroyds are a very similar group of people. There is often a family resemblance even when the family connection is unprovable, and the vast majority of our ancestors were skilled craftsmen- I guess that is why we have so many university research Boothroyds these days.
Anyhow, if you are looking for a connection with your original pre-Roman Yorkshire heritage- and we do go back that far!
I am putting together some research that my late sister did. It accounts for the spurious Welsh connection which I have seen on one of the US genealogy sites!
I shall put it on a web page and publicise it on the net when I get it done.
Bye for now!
Dave B

My sister and I are just getting into the family tree stuff. I will be glad to exchange any info I have with you.

My g grandmother, Jane Heppleston, whom he married Jun 1876, is my lineage. My grandmother was b. 20 Sep 1876. He was married to my g grandmother's friend - her fiennd died before he married her. Actually he married Jane in Bradford, not Huddersfield. Since there are 4 marriages for Abel Bothroyd I'm starting to ger confused. Barbara H

I am just beginning to trace my family tree through my fathers line. Unfortunately I do not have alot to go on. His name was William Arthur Boothroyd and was born in Grimsby(c.1929). His parents were Walter Boothroyd and Alice Sheardown. Walter came from Brighouse W. Yorkshire and I believe there are still family connections there. Walter played in the Brighouse and Rastrick Band for a while. Is there anyone out there that can help me with more information please.

Hi, Barbara, I noticed the date on your query is several months old, but thought I'd answer anyway just in case. Alfred J.(John) Boothroyd was b 29 Apr. 1900 or 1901, d 6 Dec. 1953. He and Neva (b 16 Nov. 1902, d 12 Jan. 1984) are buried in Lafayette, IN (Tippecanoe Co.) in Springvale Cem.
This info. comes from records at the Tipecanoe Co. Hist. Soc. in Lafayette, where I live. Alfred's father Peter was the brother of my gtgtgrandmother, Cornelia Boothroyd Miller, which is how I come to have this info. Hope this helps you. You can email me if there's more you want to know about this family. (ribblt@juno.com) Tracy Montgomery
