Wilmer Hall BOOZER killed 1944 air crash GA
December 3, 1944 (date of newspaper, I think);
The Dothan Eagle is the name of the newspaper (Dothan, Alabama is in Houston County)

Wilmer Hall BOOZER Killed In Air Mishap.

First Lieutenant Wilmer Hall Boozer, twenty-six, was instantly killed at noon Friday when
the B-18 bomber he was piloting on a test flight crashed at Warner-Robbins Field, near Macon,
Ga., his mother, Mrs. Gypsy Boozer 310 W. Troy Street, was notified by the War Department.

Details of the crash, other than the plane was being tested, were not announced. The only other
occupant of the ship, a mechanic was also killed.

The B-18, a pre-war two-motored bomber, was outdated soon after the war started and was replaced
by larger two-motored bombers. No B-18’s now are used in combat, but some are on coastal patrol
and others are used at various fields as transports because they carry from six to eight passengers.

Lieut. Boozer, known to a wide circle of friends and class-mates as “Brother,” moved from Samson to
Dothan in 1921 and attended schools here. He was graduated from the Dothan High School in January,
1927 and from the University of Alabama in 1941.

After his graduation from the University, he went into the infantry as a first lieutenant and in
February, 1942, was transferred to a glider school. Later he was transferred to the Air Corps and
received his wings in January, 1944. He attended a B-24 bomber school and then went to a test pilots
school. He was assigned to Warner-Robins field in August as a test pilot.

Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, Lieutenant (j g) Young J. Boozer, U S Navy now in
the Pacific; and two sisters, Miss Rebecca Boozer and Miss Frances Boozer, both of Dothan.

First Lieutenant Cyril Noon, of Warner-Robins Field, will accompany the body of Lieut. Boozer to
Dothan as military escort. Funeral services will be Conducted at 2:30 p. m. Monday at the Episcopal
Church of the Nativity with the Rev. G Ralph Madson, vicar, officiating. Burial will follow in the
City Cemetery with Ward-Wilson in charge.

http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ala...

Pallbearers will be Marion Hanahan, Betts Slingluff, George Spann, Hubert Law, Capt. Sam Hodges,
Alto V. Lee, Curtis McQuagge, and Lieut. William Snow.

http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ala...
:

This is certainly the same family. I am originally from Arkansas. John Hampton's granddaughter and I graduated from high school together in Morrilton. She lives in St. Louis now. John Hampton's sister, Hattie was married to my great-grandfather's brother - Green Thornton; Rachel was married to my greatuncle Henry Thornton. His brother, Richard Boozer was married to my great-aunt Alice Ponds (Sawyer) Boozer.

This sounds like my family. My great grandfather is Alexander Hampton Flournoy and his wife is Princilla Davis, their bible has Morrilton, County in it. His mother's name is Eveleen Boozer and my mother spoke of an Uncle Mose. This really sounds like my family.

I can only hope that this email address is still valid. My name is Anita Boozer-Graves and I think you might be looking for my father Carl William Boozer (deceased) (Possibly your Billy's Father) . I am also looking for my brother named Billy Boozer that was adopted out in Texas from an affair. The dates. places and names are the same. The adoption took place in Texas and my dad did have the affair and he was in Germany etc..... Email me back so we can compare notes and maybe find Billy Boozer together if we are looking for the same person and my gut is telling me we are? Do you have a picture of your Mother (Billy's birth mother from around that time?) Please contact me back and let me know what you think. My email address is agraves6@cox.net I hope this reaches you??????

We most definately are related:) Charley was James Orval and Mary Jane's first child, I think. My grandma Opal was second. So your grandpa and my grandma were brother and sister--if I read that right. Pretty neat!

Ruby. Hmmm maybe she is the Ruby Jane my mom used to refer to? I haven't looked at the exact dates of responses back to this thread but I ended up losing my mom in Nov last year. Her name was Velma Virginia Kennedy Thompson.

I can't seem to find our family in the 1930 census. I've found the Cheney side but not the Boozer side.

Anyway, I will definately be in contact with you. Seems like when we lost my grandma in 1998 our contact with that side of the family pretty much stopped. Since losing my mom it has stopped and I hate that.

I have a book titled "The Boozer Family of South Carolina" pub. 1970 by Mary Elizabeth Boozer, Lib. of Cngress no. 7-141878.Our name was originally spelled Buser and, with its german pronunciation was soon anglicized to Boozer. Ulrich Buser came to America in the 1730s. I'll be glad to help with any info I may have. I am from the branch which came to Alabama in the early 1800's.
Guy Boozer

I learned a lot more about my great grandfather and his family after posting this. I have some things on James' parents and family somewhere but a lot has happened since I last posted here---got married, have two children, and some not as nice things like the cancer diagnosis a couple of years ago. Trying to get some time to get back into research but it's pretty tough to do it with two small kids.

This is very strange. My ex-husband's grandmother was Lula Boozer who had a sister Minnie. They are not the same Boozers, in your family because Lula had only three children none of which is your ancestor and Minnie had daughters. It is interesting how one surname can have the same daughter first names. I believe they came from S. Carolina to Georgia.

Bobbie -
Hi - I'm your cousin. My dad, Charles Claudus Clinton, is the son of Sarah Ladocia Clark Clinton - your grandmother's sister. I was just doing some research on your side of the family and in particular the Boozers. When I was a teenager, I helped take care of your grandmother and both she and your dad had given me a few momentos so I was trying to figure out when your grandfather was in the war and where and such since some were things he brought back.

The John Hampton Boozer whose family I was researching were from Newberry, SC, and Lexington County, SC, and earlier Edgefield. John Hampton Boozer married Caroline Brockington and the family moved to Morrilton, Conway County, Arkansas. He may also have lived in Darlington because his wife and her family were from Darlington County. The other Boozers who moved to Conway County were Richard Boozer who married Alice Sawyer; Lem Boozer who married Henry Thornton; Hattie Boozer who married Green Thornton, Rachel Boozer who married I don't know who - possibly a Leaphart. John Hampton's children included Moses, Bernice, Hattie, Evalina, and others. I have the family history after they moved to Morrilton. My email address has changed since I posted last. If you'll tell me who you are I'll be happy to share with you and let you know who else has your family information.

One of my grandmother's sisters was named Sallie (Loyd) Boozer. I am seeking more information on this part of my family.

Sallie's siblings were Ella Loyd born October 1891, Walter Loyd, and Delia Loyd.

Sallie's parents were Henry Boozer and Rosenna. I do not have a last name for Rosenna. It may have been Johnson.

All of the above persons lived orignally in the Lexington/Columbia, SC area. Amost all relocated to Philadelphia by the 1930's.

Any information people may have on Sallie's family, I would greatly appreciated having. I have a picture of the three siblings together--Sallie, Walter and Ella.

Ella was my grandmother. She was married to Benjamin (Frank)Hill.

Vernon Reed Boozer, born , in Kittanning, Pa. " son of, William Arthur Boozer. and, Grace Elizabeth ,* U.S,Air Force ,Aircraft
Vernon Reed Boozer
At 9:05 on the morning of August 13, Vernon "Reed"
His loving wife Arlene,
his children
and mother-in-law, Mildred Marshall,
were by his side with his spirit departed this world to a place of serenity, light, and peace.
His wife Mildred "Arlene" (Marshall) Boozer, whom he married on September 20th, 1986,
would have been married 22 years. They shared 25 wonderful years enjoying mutual careers and interests. Sine 2004 most of their free time had been spent at their second home in Arizona. Vernon is survived by his living and caring children, Vernon R. Boozer Jr., of Parma Heights, Ohio,
Lynn Blohm (Jay) of Prescott Valley, Arizona,
Lou Ann Torjusen (Georg) of Norway,
Randy J. Graham (Irene) of Greenville, Pa.;
and a grandson Mathew Graham of Greenville.
He was preceded in death by a son Jeffrey E. Graham; a brother Grant Hetrick;
and his mother and father. Vernon Reed Boozer was born on June 12, 1939, in Kittanning, Pa. to Grace Elizabeth and William Arthur Boozer.
He grew up in Erie and attended Erie Public Schools. In 1956, at the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He started his Air Force career as an Aircraft Electrician, training at Lackland Air Force Base. He was stationed at Roswell, A.F.B., Richards-Gubaur, A.F.B. and several bases in Japan. Upon returning from Japan, he elected to leave the Air Force, but then reenlisted six months later in January of 1961. He was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base, Denver, Colo. for Electronics Training. He was then transferred to Eglin A.F.B., Fla. and assigned to the prestigious 48th Air Rescue Group. While at Eglin A.F.B., he was deployed to the Bay of Pigs conflict. When the Vietnam Conflict was at hit height, Vern volunteered to go and serve his country saying, "This was what I was trained to do." He valiantly served from May 1965 until May 1966. His next assignment was at Selfridge A.F.B., Mich. where he worked on F-106 Jets. He left active duty in 1970 and joined the Air Force Reserve Program. He was first assigned to the 911th Airlift Wing in Pittsburgh Pa. and then later transferred to the 910th Airlift Wing in Vienna, Ohio. He began his career in the Aircraft Electronic Shop at the 910th and then was later hired as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) in the Avionics Shop as a Communications and Navigation Specialist. He loved working on the airplanes and the challenges it brought. His Vietnam background and experience afforded him the opportunity to assist the unit's conversion to the only DOD (Department of Defense) Aerial Spray mission. He retired from the Air Force Reserve in July of 1994 with 34 years of service to his country. Vernon was a Hempfield Township volunteer fireman from 1973-1983. After retirement, Vernon enthusiastically pursued his many passions. His love for nature included hiking the Grand Canyon twice and exploring several European countries with his son, Vernon. He shared his love of motorcycles by traveling across the country with his son Vernon and many of his good buddies. Vernon enjoyed all kinds of music. He also had a passion for airplanes, and could identify any aircraft by sight. Since his diagnosis with ALS in April 2006, Vernon's mission was to educate people about his disease.
He was deemed by his "Wednesdays with Vernon" buddies as the Ambassador of ALS Awareness. He participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS in the fall of 2007, and this team raised over $6000 for ALS research. He was loved and supported by many.
I have a g-g-g-g-grandfather, Jacob Boozer, born in Switzerland, living in PA, OH, and IN. His daughter, Mary A. was born April 4, 1822 in PA and married David Rush in Knightstown, Henry, IN Oct 6, 1842. David & Mary Rush moved to Wildcat Twp, Tipton Co IN in 1867. David died in 1881 and Mary died Sept. 23, 1917. I've seen her name listed two different ways...Mary Alice Rush and Mary Amanda Rush.

I found a Jacob Boozer on the 1850 census of Knightstown, Wayne Twp, Henry Co IN with daughters Elizabeth, Margaret, Sarah, and Lydia. Jacob was a tailor. I also found him on the 1860 census of Knightstown, Wayne Twp, Henry Co, IN with daugheters Elizabeth and Margaret.

If anyone has any more info on Jacob Boozer I would appreciate it if you would contact me.
