I am a 36 year old male who was adopted. My mother was Anita Borja (born 1944) who moved to the USA and married Ralph Francis in 1971. She died of breast cancer in 1994. I have 2 sisters both older than me. Dawn born in 1968, Sami born in 1967. I was adopted to young to know anything.

I have found the spelling is BORREE sounds like Bora. They were from Klein Jannewitz, Kries Lauenburg, Germany now in Poland.

Looking for family of Carolyn BORA/BERNEL? who was married to Karl Ferdinand GOLCHERT. They lived in Germany but thier sons Albert, Paul, Fred and Richard came to Chicago,IL. in the late 1800's. I am from Albert GOLCHERT's line.

The last name should be BORREE.
They were from Klein Jannewitz, Kreis Lauenburg, Pommeron

Attn. David Hogg, After I sent my message yesterday, I realized that I had responded a little too quickly. Rereading my notes: According to Vermont Vital Records Zephemiah Bovat was born 17 Feb 1870 to Philip Bovat (of Canada) and Ozet (of Highgate) and the birth was reported from Highgate, VT. Separate but also from Vermont Vital Records: The death of a John Bora on 27 Mar 1907, age 62, born Vergennes of Zeb Bora and Rose Reardon. The death was reported from Brandon, VT. John and Delia (Cole) Borea appear in Rutland City, Rutland County in 1870 census and in Brandon, Rutland County in 1880 census as John and Delia (Cole) Bora with family. Nearby live Joseph and Amelia (Shosa/Shora) Bora. According to VT vital records, Joseph was born Canada and Amelia was from Orwell, VT.

That's definitely my John.

But the only Zeph Bovat I'm seeing is Phillip and Ozart's son in the 1870 census. Phillip might be John's brother - they are about the same age.

Looking at my "miscellaneous Bora file" I found the following: Zephemiah Bovat and Rose Reardon had a son, John Bora, who was born about 1845 in Vergennes, VT and died in Brandon, VT 27 Mar 1907. This John Bora married Delia Cole who was born about 1846 in Canada. Together they had about 11 children. John, Delia & children are in 1880 census in Brandon, VT. I also have a note that the parents of "Zeb" were POSSIBLY Philip and Ozet Bovat - check 1850 and/or 1860 census for Highgate, Franklin County, Vermont (I think that's where I got this information). Does this help?

My great-great-grandfather, John Bora, was supposedly born in Vergennes in 1845 to Zeb Bora and Rose Reardon, but I've never found any traces of those two. Do they even sound vaguely familiar?

My French Canadian Bora family came from the Rouville district of Quebec, particularly St. Mathias parish and their surname there was Barre (with an accent on the e). They settled in the Vergennes area of Addison County, Vermont in or about 1840. I have seen the name spelled Boria, and I have seen it misspelled in countless ways. I know that the name Barre appears in other areas, such as Marieville, but I haven't researched the records outside of St. Mathias yet.

Family emmigrated from Canada between 1861 - 1868 with at least two children. Settled in Charlotte, Chittende, VT and had at least 10 total children. Over 300 known descendants.
BERIE surname used in 1880 census; BORA and BORAH used after 1900 by all branches that I know of.

Osier in your Borah Genealogy

I see an Ella Osier, wife of Joseph Borah, in your genealogy. My question concerns Maine, not VT, but am looking for the Osier family who had a daughter Mary. She married Joseph Boardway, and in 1906 their daughter Mary Boardway married Daniel Cookson, Harmony, Maine. I don't know where Joseph Boardway and wife Mary Osier were from or where they married. There are many Borà in today Gioiosa Marea and many having this surname or similar surnames can be found since the XVIII century. It should not be difficult to trace the roots of your family.

I also have a Nick Bora as well as a Theresa and a Rose. Rose died abt 1959 in Brooklyn. I think there may be a connection.

Hi Sister Rose Ann-

I find it very interesting that you are a Blair doing Borah line research. I have both names in my line. My grandmother was Florence Irene Benedicta Borah (b 1902), the daughter of Delmer F Borah(b 1870), the son of John "Hill" Borah (b 1844), the son of Zeb Bora and Rose Reardon.

My Blair line is Lydia Blair (b 1782) m. Heinrich (aka Henry) Rickert (b 1784), the son of Johann Georg Rickert (b 1753), the son of Johannes Rickert (b 1723/24), the son of Johann Conradt Rickert (b. 1703), the son of Johann Konrad Rickert (b. 1679-80), the son of Johannes Rickert (b abt 1650), the son of Claus Rickert, (b. abt 1624).

Lydia's parents are John Blair, Jr and Jane Rogers. John Blair is the son of Col John Blair of the Rev. War.

my family came from gioiosa marea in the early 1900's and the only family i know of was my grandfather nicolo' bora' and a few of his brothers and sisters they lived in woodhaven ny and then moved to east ny and ca. i know that my grandfather had someone before my grandmother, which then had a daughter named rose and she had a daughter named cathy.if any one has any leads please contact me.

My father's relatives are from VT of FR-Canadian descent. Arthur Bora was one of 9 children; he married Helen Chatfield and had 7 children, one of which was my father, Donald Alfred Bora.

Our earliest BORA "appeared" in VT circa 1860 or so. Two men, Joseph & John BORA, are beleived to be son of Joseph BORA and Maragaret DEJARDINS; they were from Canada. We've never found an origin for our earliest BORA. See the GEDCOM for more on our BORA family. BORA surname thought by some to have origins in old Saxon town of Torgau.
