I'm Kevin Bord my cousin Jeni was writing to you some years ago and I've just come acroos your messages backl and forth as I reconect to ancestry.com. I have done some researchon the Bord's. What is your husbands name and or his father's name. I have run across a Dutch Boord last name pronounced the same as Bord which could be "German." The Bords I know of came from France in the 1889/89 and settled in western PA. Many of them moved into Easter OH and disperssed from there. My Great grandfather was Regis and he had three sons, Regis, Elix and Harry. Ring any bells?

I'm not sure which which branch your on but if the roots are with Regis Bord Sr., my father's grandfather on his fathers side, we are in the same tree and I would love to share information.

Thanks,
Cousin Kevin

Hi Jennifer,

I married into the Bord family a few years ago. There is a large family in the Fond du Lac - Sheboygan area of Wisconsin. My husbands family always thought thier ancestry was German, however I haven't found any Surnames of Bord in Germany. The initial "Bord" of the family might have been French. I currently live in Atlanta and we are the only Bord's in the phone book.

I wanted to post another message, because my first email to Richard Bord bounced back. The Regis Bord who was his grandfather is definitely related to my family. I found his obituary in our local newspaper, and it confirms the connection. Their family was living in the Pittsburgh, Monessen, Charleroi area of PA in the first three decades of the 1900's. I have lots of info for any other Bords related to Regis and Harry Bord of Youngstown Ohio if they are interested. Please post a reply if so.

Vicki DuJordan Molesky

I think I may be researching the same Bord family you are speaking about. I just started it recently, because I didn't know they had a connection to us until a few weeks ago. My father's godfather was Casimer Bissier, who was married to Mary Boord. Her obituary lists Harry and Regis Boord of Youngstown as her brothers back in the 50's. I didn't know about the true family connection until I saw their names listed in my grandfather's funeral book as relatives. Also listed was Rosalie Whitfield, who was Mary Boord Bissiere's daughter. The family was listed on the census in Charleroi, PA in 1900, and moved to Monessen by 1910. That is where Rosalie died in 1998. If you think we are talking about the same family, could you let me know? My grandmother's family came from France, and lived near the Boords in Charleroi. I am waiting right now for Mary Boord Bissiere's death certificate to see if her mother's maiden name will give me the connection.

Hello!
I, too, am researching the Bord surname. I find it interesting that your mother said it was 'french'. I have found reference to a 'Powell-LaBorde' trading post on Lake Winnebago in 1839 and wondered if that could have become the 'Bords'? Otherwise, we seem to have just sprouted from nowhere . . .
If you have found out anymore info please let me know . . . . thank you . . . Pat

His father was Konrad and his mother Eva (no maiden name) He married 1st Catherina Horn, born 1839-40, and they had 8 children; married 2nd Annie Gosch/Gorch (?).
My grandfather, Louis Bord, born Jan 30, 1880 in Adell, Sheboygan County, married Jan 22, 1903, Ida Boyarski, and he died April 9, 1950 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wood County. They had 12 children.
I can find no 'Bord' in earlier records. I can find du Bord, la Bord, Borda, etc. Have you had any luck? I will appreciate hearing from you and any information you can provide. Thank you, Pat

Bord family

Hi! I was born Jennifer Bord in Youngstown, Ohio, 2/15/58.

My grandfather, Harry Bord, was the 10th child and only one of his siblings born in the U.S. (Monessen-sp?, PA). His family came over from a village in southern France--outside of Marseilles, I think. They mined coal in France, and mined coal in Pennsylvania, too.

A couple of my relatives have actually been to the village in France, two or three years ago, and have seen the name Bord in the church records there. We had always guessed it was a shortened form of some other name--not so!

Harry moved across the state line to Youngstown, Ohio, and ran a coal yard. I don't know where the other 9 siblings went, but I'm sure some of my aunts or uncles do.

We never heard of any Bords in other areas of the US. Is your family also of French descent, or is it your name from a different ethnic origin?

Harry Bord served in WWI, died in 1971. Had 4 kids, 12 grandkids, now a bunch of great-grandkids. We're spread all over the place.
