Joseph D and Mary C RIPPY BORDERS were my GG Grandparents:

I am begining to believe that the parents of Joseph D Borders are John and Rachel UNKNOWN BORDERS. If you look at the 1900 Census there is a Cousin Jack H BORDERS living with him. I believe this is J Henry BORDERS, son of William and Mary "Polly" GRAVES BORDERS. William would have been a brother to Joseph's dad, John. Their parents would have been Peter and Esther BORDERS.

1900 Census
Sumner County, TN
Dist 12
324/323
Joseph Borders Head W/M Oct 1847 52 KY/KY/KY Blacksmith
Armandy " Wife W/F ? 1863 37 TN/TN/TN
Elizabeth " Daughter W/F July 1876 23 KY/KY/KY
Nettie " Daughter W/F March 1891 9 TN/KY/TN
Jack H Cousin W/M Nov 1846 53 TN/TN/TN

Have come across George Washington Borders, d. 1938 Smith's Grove, Barren Co., KY. Married to Lula and his father supposed to be Henry W. Borders. (This info. was from Ancestry online KY Death Records 1852-1953).
From 1870 Census: George W. Borders, b. abt. 1853, age 17, residence Allen Co., KY.
From 1870 Census: George Borders, age 29, b. abt. 1841, with residence Reynolds Co., MO. I believe this last one might be my great gggrandfather who died 1917 in Wayne Co., MO. Does anyone have info? Looking for parents/siblings to be certain whether the 1st 2 could be collateral lines. And, looking for any further info. on my gggrandfa. George Washington Borders who married Nancy Ann Usher...Haven't had much time for genealogy lately, but will eventually share!

here is what i know after talking with a relative who also knows very very little.

my gg grandmother was Carrie Pearl Borders. She was born Nov 1890 and died possibly around 1945. SHe married Arthur Chester Borden and together they had six or seven daughters.

I am told that Carrie Pearl Borders' parents were
John H Borders b 8/15/1868, d 8/17/1935 and Ena Dinkins 3/25/1870, d 1/13/1946.

Pearl may have had a sister named Mabel and a brother named Claud. I cannot connect this line to anyone. Can anyone help.

Supposedly, John H Borders parents were John Henry Borders and Nancy Holders.

so
John Henry Borders and Nancy Holders
to
John H Borders and Ena Dinkins
to
Carrie Pearl Borders and Arthur Chester Borden
to
Ida Ruthine Borden and Elbert Newton
and so on down to me

any takers on this mystery?

thanks
David Borders/Elizabeth Pinkley

Looking for anyone who connects to David Borders, b. abt. 1795/6 in SC, and married to Elizabeth Pinkley in 1816, in Barren Co., KY. I'm trying to prove/disprove if these are the parents of my gggrandfather George Washington Borders, b. abt 1836-1841?--death certificate says GW was b. in NC. GW's death certificate lists as his father a David Borders, mother unknown, also lists as unknown the birthplace of his parents. The info. on GW's death certificate was provided by L. G. Borders who is my ggrandfather Louis George Borders. Some researchers list as the father of David--a Peter Borders, but I have not gotten back this far to prove/disprove. The 1810 census for Buncombe Co., NC lists a Peter Borders with 3 M age 0-9, 2 M 10-15, 1 M 45+, 2 F 0-9, 1 F 10-15, 2 F 16-25, 1 F 26-44. Does anyone know the names of this family? Does anyone have an 1820 census for Barren Co., KY showing a family with Peter Borders, or with David and Elizabeth Borders? Thanks.

And at some point after his birth, ended up in Vermillion county in Danville, Illinois. "Ray" was born either 19 Mar 1885 or 18 Mar 1886 in Kentucky.
There is also a Hayden Payne married to Tilda? also from Kentucky who had a Ray Payne.
Dora is listed as Ray's "Contact" in his WWI Registration(1918).
Can someone help me sort this information out?
Thank you---
Julie

Borders Family Y-DNA Tests

In the on-going use of the male Y-chromosome to identify our original American ancestors, doubt has been cast upon the belief that Isaac Borders 1776 TN-1857 GA was a son of Michael Bader/Borders 1751 GER-1807 GA. Our Borders Test Group needs a male Borders descendant of Isaac to join our Group; his Y-chromosome will prove/disprove the origins of Isaac's line. See www.familytreedna.com (no blood, just scrub the inner cheek). Isaac had 3 sons that also sired sons: 1. John Hopton Borders 1797 GA-1893 MS, m Susan Gray 1803 GA-1873 MS, 2. Michael A Borders 1799 GA-187X GA, m 1st Nancy Johnson 180X-183X, m 2nd Martha Cobb 1809 GA-188X, 3. Enoch H Borders 1812 GA-1877 GA, m 1st Jane M Wilhite 1819 GA-1856 GA, m 2nd Elizabeth A Wilhite 1823 GA-1900 GA.

My ancestor, John Borders, was in the Revolutionary War, he fought for the British Legion, during the war, he stated in 1797 in Tazewell Co.Va, his last place of residence was England. Family tradition has him as being from Hesse though, but Borders is not a Germanic name. Can anyone help me with his ancestry? Was he English? Are there any Borders in England? He was b. before 1757, married Catherine Sellards, possibly in 1787, in Giles Co.Va?, had eight children, he died ca. 1815 in Johnson /Lawrence Co.Ky.
Thank-You!

He is buried in Allen Co, Ky. My maternal grandparents were Lester D Wheat,d abt 1967, and Vera Goodrum,d abt 1973-74. My mother is Alma Odell Wheat Borders Glass Sumpter, still living. They had six children, one of which was me. A sister Carolyn Sue died in 1956. The others are still living. If you have any info about these people, please let me know. Thanks

I am searching for information on my greatgrandmother Tillie Rebecca Borders and her family. Her parents (George Borders and Unknown) were both born in PA according to the census information that I have found. Tillie was born in Bloomfield IN on 11 Sep 1870 according to oral family history. She married Ernest Wyttenback in Louisville KY 26 June 1895. In the 1920 Census she was listed as Jennie Wyttenback and on the Death Certificate of one of her sons her name was listed as Mathilda Borden. Oral family history indicated a link to the Borders family in the Sullivan IN area. I would appreciate any information that anyone has on her, her parents and siblings.
Michael Borders DNA Results

DNA research with the male Y-chromosome has just proven that this Michael Borders (died in 1849 Rutherford County NC) was a s/o Michael Bader/Borders 1751 GER & Mary Hopton 175X, d/o John Hopton who died in 1796 Greene County TN. This also means that this Michael was born in TN rather than in SC. His brothers were Isaac Borders 1776 TN, John Borders 1770 TN, and Stephen Borders 1784 TN.
Leonard Borders

Someone named Leonard Borders called my uncle Billy's house recently. He said he was my Uncle Billy's great nephew, and named some of our dead relatives. Before my uncle's girlfriend could get anymore information from him they were somehow disconnected. He had also mentioned the internet. Since he mentioned internet and seemed to be interested in family I figured would be the best place to find him. Anyone with info can e-mail Jeannie Borders at tiggerj26@aol.com Thanks

I just received my great grandmothers death certificate. On all census records, she was listed as Ellen V. Borders, but on her gravestone and on her death certificate, she is Victoria Ellen.
Her parents are Joseph Borders and Mary Rippy, both of Allen County, Kentucky. If you are researching this line, I would love to hear from you!

If you are not finding enough records, check out this approach to genealogy. Go to "www.familytreedna.com/surname.asp" then click on "B" and then click on "Borders".

Henry Borter

I am searching for any information on my gg/gf Henry Borter, of Interlaken,Switzerland. Henry was the youngest of I don't know how many children. His father was either the owner and/or manager of the Dutscher Hof Hotel that was destroyed by fire. We know Henry as the younger son did'nt inherit and so had to leave home to make it on ths own.
He came to the U.S. in 1849 with his older unmarried sister Anna and his pregnant wife(also) Anna, and a child Christina who died at sea. The family got as far as the state of Ohio,U.S. before their second daughter Margret was born. From there they went to Taylor Township near Linton,Indiana where they settled. They had a son, and when Anna died in 1855 Henry married Anna Bucher Feutz a widow of Christian Feutz Jr who was from Canton Berne, Switzerland.
Henry and this Anna had nine children.
When they passed away they were burried in the Dutch Hasler cemetary. I would love to find out information on this most interestin ancestor. Thelma Duart Hodgson

Noble R Borders

I have finally found the parents of Albert Robert BORDERS:

They are Noble R BORDERS and Catherine HOWARD. Noble and Catherine were married in 1867 in Franklin County, Arkansas. Noble had enlisted in the Ohio 36th infantry at the age of 18 and mustered out in 1865. The only record I have of Noble is his military enlistment and marriage to Catherine. They had one son, Albert, and on the 1870 census, Catherine is living with her mother, Margaret Howard in Johnson County, Arkansas. I cannot find Noble. Catherine remarried in 1876 to Thomas Dean and she died by 1880, leaving Albert an orphan. Albert lived with Hampton B FANCHER in Boone County in 1880.

Has anyone heard of Noble R BORDERS?

Thanks!
A Borders Y-DNA Test Group has been formed with a Houston firm at WWW.FAMILYTREEDNA.COM, and more male Borders should join in. The Group has already proved the Borders descendants of Matthias & Anna Maria Bader who came from Germany to Lancaster Co PA in 1752. Records, proximity, and conjecture can build a reasonably good family tree, but a test of the male Y chromosome can PROVE it! Check it out. The Group is working to find the origins of all the Borders in America.

Soldier of the AMREV JOHN BORDERS.

This is to inform all BORDERS researchers that it has been established without a doubt that the soldier John Borders, who many believed to be a Hessian soldier, and possibly could have been the Hessian Johannes Bode, who disappeared around the same timeframe, that those two soldiers are not the same man. - Through diligent research by Patricia as requested by Dottie Tabor Blankenship, from Wayne, WV., who left no stone unturned in her research, it has been established that JOHN BORDERS was a soldier of the famous TARLETON's BRITISH LEGION, who fought many battles in the South. John Borders name appears on Capt. John Rousselet's Muster Roll in Feb. 1781, and other documents. To substantiate this information, please check the mail list archives of the AMREV-HESSIANS-L@rootsweb.com mail list under date of 24.January 1999.
Additional information about the search is also there.
William Forman Borders the 1st

I am looking for information on William Forman Borders. I have little information on him. I know he was a judge in East St. Louis, Ill. This would have been in the early 30's or late 20's. He was the first Ill. judge to sentence a woman to death by hanging. I have looked in the chicago archives and have come up with nothing. I have old news paper articles on him but unfortunately the dates are not on them. I would really like to know about this man he was my Great Grand-Father. And my brother is now the W.F.B. the IV and we are really interested in finding out about his name and anything else. I was told that their middle name is the maiden name of my Great Grandfather's mother.

Thank you Linda

Borters of Interlaken

I am searching for any information on the family of my gg/gf Henry Borter of Interlaken,Switzerland. Henry was the youngest of I dont know how many children. His father was either the owner or manager of the Dutscher Hof Hotel that was destroy by fire. We know Henry as the younger son did'nt inherit and so had to leave home to make it on his own.
He came to the U.S. in 1849 with his older unmarried sister Anna, and his pregnant wife(also)Anna Toman(We think), and a daughter Christina, who died at sea. The Border's got as far as Ohio,U.S.A when their second daughter Margret was born. They settled in Taylor Township near Linton,Green Co. Indiana.
After Anna Died in 1855 Henry married again Anna Bucher Feutz, a widow of Christian Feutz who's family came from Canton Berne Switzerland. Henry and the second Anna had nine children all born in Green County,Indiana.
Henry had a disfigurment of his mouth and wore a mustash all his life.
Henry and the three Anna's are buried in the Dutch Hasler cemetary. I would really like to find out more about this most intersting ancestor of mine. Thelma Duart Hodgson
Borders Line Connection

When I was in High School I became friends with two twin brothers, Corey and Casey Borders. We thought it was terribly amusing that we had the same last name and have always wondered if we were related. I have some knowledge of my line, dating back to Phoebe Van Hoose, but not much of theirs. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me find a way to check and see if there is a connection. I am Adam Borders, son of Jack Borders, g.father is Gay Borders, great g.father is Florida Borders. My friends are Corey and Casey Borders, the father's name is Curtis Borders and that's all I know about them. Any help anyone has would be appreciated.

Thanks,
~Adam
