He was one of 7 children to Isiah D. Boren and Mary E. Reader.

Please contact me if you'd like more info.

Obit for Lottie Estella Boren Mabee

Lawton Constitution
Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma
Friday, October 22, 1965

Funeral Services Set in Tulsa for One of Randlett’s Founders
Tulsa: Funeral services are scheduled here for Mrs. LOTTIE ESTELLA MABEE, who along with her husband, the late oilman and philanthropist JOHN MABEE, founded Randlett in 1907. Mrs. MABEE died Thursday at the age of 86 in a Tulsa hospital. Her husband died in 1961.

The Mabees established the J. E. and L. E. MABEE Foundation which made gifts totaling millions of dollars to colleges, hospitals, churches, and other institutions.

A principal beneficiary was the University of Tulsa. The Mabees also donated two million dollars for the Hillcrest Medical Center Children’s Hospital, Tulsa.

The Mabees, who built their vast oil fortune from a homestead 160 acres in Cotton County, established Randlett when Mabee opened a wagon yard there. Randlett is now a town of 400 population located in southern Cotton County near Red River. It is about 25 miles south of Lawton.

The Mabees were married in Golden City, Missouri in 1900 and farmed on rented land before moving to Fort Worth. In Fort Worth, Mabee, who later became one of the world’s richest oilmen, worked for 15 cents an hour in a packing house.

When the “Big Pasture” country was opened, the Mabees homesteaded in Cotton County. Soon after this, Mabee started his wagon yard and also established Randlett. Mabee also obtained a contract to carry mail between Randlett and Temple, 21 miles away. Two years after homesteading the farm, he and Mrs. Mabee received a patent on the land. He later leased it to Carter Oil Co. for drilling and went to work for the firm, buying up leases around Randlett.

In 1919, Mabee made his first venture in the drilling business when he leased 20 acres near Breckenridge, Texas. He drilled two wells and both were gushers, famous in the early day annals of Texas oil booms. From that beginning, he became one of the world’s largest drilling contractors, later drilling more than 200 wells in Oklahoma City alone. The Mabee Foundation was established in 1948.

Private funeral services will be held Saturday for Mrs. Mabee. Entombment will be in the family mausoleum in Memorial Park, Tulsa.

She is survived by a brother, J. W. BOREN (JAMES W. BOREN?) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three nephews, five nieces, and several great-nephews and great-nieces. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

The nephews are JOHN W. COX of Tulsa and Krum, Texas; LLOYD COX of Fort Worth and W. J. BOREN of Yellow Grass, Sask., and the nieces are Mrs. NAOMI ROSS of Keller, Texas, Mrs. RUTH MIETH of Glen Rose, Texas, Mrs. RUBY JOHNSON of Fort Worth, Mrs. EULA MEYER of Colorado Springs, and Sister St. SUZANNE of Regina, Sask.

Information:
LOTTIE ESTELLA BOREN MABEE was the daughter of WILLIAM R. BOREN and AURORA HENDRICKS.
Amond her siblings were CHARLES HENRY BOREN, ADA BOREN ARMANTROUT, and NELLIE BOREN COX.
Her grandparents were JOHN HENDRICKS and CHARLOTTE GARDNER; and WILEY BOREN and CATHERINE LIERLE or LIVELY.

Her sister Nellie Boren Cox married Gifford V. Cox, son of JOHN M. COX and LAURA NORDMAN COX. Nellie and Gifford were the parents of JOHN W. COX, LLOYD COX, NAOMI COX ROSS, RUTH COX MIETH, and RUBY COX JOHNSON.

Some missing pieces:
Ada Boren Amantrout, wife of Walter Armantrout, was in the 1920 Jackson County, Missouri household with children Ruth M. and William Armantrout, besides her mother Aurora Hendricks Boren and her nephew Lloyd Eric Cox. Was Ada the mother of these Armantrout children?

Charles ‘Henry’ Boren with wife May and daughter Hazel were on the 1900 Barton County, Missouri census. By 1910 Jasper County, Missouri census, Henry Boren with wife Lillie (nee BECK, 1st husband Dobbs, later 3rd husband was SWAFFORD) had Lillie’s son EDDIE DOBBS and his daughter HAZEL BOREN in the household, with Henry and Lillie being married 9 years. Charles Henry Boren died 1911. Questions: May died between the census year 1900 and early 1901--what was her maiden name--was it Nordman? What happened to Hazel?

There is a connection between William Riley Boren, son of Wiley Boren and Catherine Lierle/Lively and some of my Cox-Nordman line. William Riley Boren married Aurora Hendrix / Hendrick, daughter of John Hendrick and Charlotte Gardner--the W. R. Boren family lived in Golden City, Barton Co., MO where Aurora was buried in 1933/34 after she died in Tarrant Co., TX. W. R. and Aurora had among their children, Nellie who married Gifford Cox, son of John M. Cox and Laura Nordman Cox; they also had Charles Henry Boren, who seems to have married May Cox, sister to Gifford. Charles Henry Boren and wife May appear as Henry Boren, wife May, and baby Hazel on the 1900 Barton Co., MO census.

Are you still researching this line?

William Boren, Alma, Arkansas, 1920 Census

In the 1920 Census, my great-grandmother, Daisy Teague, can be found living with her family in Alma, Arkansas. Two lots away, there is a Boren family:
WM Boren, b. abt 1849
Becky Boren, b. abt 1869
Ruth Boren, b. abt 1901
Bill Boren, b. abt 1902
Mary Boren, b. abt 1904

We know from my grandfather's birth cerificate that my great-grandfather's name was William Boren, noted as Bill Boren in this census. Bill was around 18 and Daisy around 16 at this time. Both Bill and Daisy died in the Great Hurricane of 1928 in Belle Glade, Florida.

We are assuming, I suppose, that the Boren family in this census record is my great-great grandfather WM and my great-grandfather Bill.

Problem is, Bill and Daisy will not be in any other census records after 1920, seeing as they passed away in 1928. My only hope of finding my family lies in finding out where Wm Boren came from.

Problem is, Wm, Becky, Ruth, Bill, and Mary Boren are not in any other census records. Wm was 71 years old in 1920, and we have yet to find any documentation of him in any other census record, land record, tax record, even prison records. We have no idea what to do in order to continue our search.

We know that he was born in Arkansas, and was born about 1849, but that is the extent of what we know.

Also, we are going on assumption that this Bill Boren of 18 years old is the William Boren/Bill Boren that Daisy married. Based on their son's birth certificate, this census record does make this Bill Boren the right age and born in the right place to be the right Boren. Also, being that they were neighbors, we assume that is how they met.

We have really hit a brick wall. None of the family knows anything about the Boren line, because Bill and Daisy died young, and their children were raised by Daisy's mother. Diasy's youngest brother, Paul Teague, recently passed away, before we found him. He may or may not have a living son-- we think that he is living, but are having a hard time finding him.

Anyone have any info on this Boren line? Any ideas on how to find a living relative? Any help would be appreciated. We're so unsure of where to turn to next. Also, we live near the Nation Archives in Boston-- any adivce on going to them?

Thank you all so much. We've had great luck in the past with wonderful, helpful people on these boards-- we're hoping lightning will strike twice and someone will be able to lead us in the right direction. Thanks again,

Jim Boren

Hi Jean,
The Mary Ellen Ridgeway Boren who I have listed -- I have her father as Jeremiah V Ridgeway, and mother as Nancy Thompson. Mary Ellen was born June 27, 1848 and died in New Mexico May 23, 1931 - buried in James Canyon cemetery, Otero Co. NM.

Jennie Boren was one of younger daughters of a large family -- there were quite a few Borens in TX, NM and later in AZ from her family.

I don't have any info on a Mary Ann Ridgeway or Henry Boren. Sorry.

Jody

Must be two diffrent Boren lines. Yes there are lots of Borens. I should have checked my facts before posting. My mother-in-law was a Hamlett and it was her uncle and aunt who are buried in Otero County and also in a differnt cemetery. Our Borens are mostly in Texas and some in NM
Jean

I was interested in your notes about Jennie BOREN and Harry LUCAS. Accroding to my information Mary Ann Ridgway died in 1858. I wonder if Jennie was a grandaughter? My husband's grandfather was Henry BOREN 1828-1869 he married Louisa BACCUS 1829-about 1880. Some of the BOREN family was in Otreo County New Mexico about that time your Jennie and Harry married.
Jean

Chrystal. My husband is a decendant of William Deeson Boren, as we have just verified. We had been given mis-information. He is adopted and found his birth family in his twenties. His father had already died so he only has what litle information his brother and sister could remember and some of it was incorrect such as William Beesom and Judith Rennels which turned out to be Deeson and Rundell and his grandfather,Arthur Clinton was their child.
We would appreciate any information that you can share. His sister lives in Jonesville, La. and we have visited there.
My email address is jojowers2@gmail.com

Hi, my name is Jo Ann Jowers and my husband, Eugene Jowers is searching for his biological family from Louisiana. He was adoptd as a baby and later in life found that his birth name is Boren and he has a relationship with his brother and sister but his father had already died when he found them. His line is, father; Arllie Carson(Might be Arliss but children say Arllie)grandf: Arthur Clinton Boren and Neomi Gray. gr-granf; William Deeson Boren. Now this is the problem we have had. The brother had told us that it was Beeson and Judith Rennels and of course we could not find them.I found a William Deeson and Judith Rundell and one of the children listed is Arthur born in 1880, same as Arthur Clinton so we now know that it is William Deeson and Judith Rundell that are his ancestors. We would appreciate any help we can get on this line and will share anything that we have.My email address is joannjowers2@gmail.com.
