German Borgers to Cleveland

My great great grandfather Daniel Borger (27 April 1838 - 18 Oct 1912) came to the US and settled in the Cleveland area in 1858. His wife was Christine Elizabeth Eisner (or Neisner). I have information on his descendants and know that his father's name was Mathew. Would like to extend this tree further back if anyone has any information to share.

David Borger

I realize that it's been 8+ years since you posted and I don't have and exact match, but I think it's real. My great grandfather's name was Christian Homer Borger. I have his birthday listed as 19 Feb 1865 and his date of death as 5 Nov 1931 in Cleveland. So were off by a year on the birth date (not too uncommon) and by a bit more on the name. But I think we're talking about the same person. I have information on his children and downward. His father was Daniel and his grandfather was Mathew. I can fill in a few more names, but can't go back any further--Mathew was probable born c 1815. Daniel immigrated to Cleveland in 1858.

David Borger

Henry William Borger 1854 Marriage St George East London

Greetings All,
Henry William Borger (wife unknown) is the father of my Great Grandmother Esther Ann Borger (married to George Smith Askell 1879 Romford). Esther Ann was born in St George Parish 1857.
From my research and I'm taking a quantum leap in intuition here, I believe she had sisters named Eliza Hannah (married Sep 1877 in Romford) and Mary Ann (married Sep 1883 in Romford). There could be more brothers and sisters.
Is anyone else researching this family.?
Would love to hear from you.
Dulcie
Australia
According to my mother, Louis' wife was Caroline. The 1880 census shows Louis Borger of Manhattan married to Mary Caroline. I just came upon this recently and have not had an opportunity to document it. If this is my Louis, his parents are listed as John Borger and Julia Gleber of Baiern (is that Bavaria?). Children shown are Louis and Elizabeth. I hope you can help me confirm if I am on the right track.

Hi ,

My father reminded me that Kathatrina Schmidt (my G) had two sister.

My father's cousins, Marion and Alex Holstien lived in Surrey BC.

Alex's Mother was Katharina's sister. She was named Mary (or Marie) Elizabeth Schmidt. The other sister, Marie (Mary?) Elizabeth Schmidt, lived at 1909 North 10th Street (upper flat).

She lived in Milwaukee WI and was married to Henry Viedt (or viet). He was beaten to death in whilst being robbed of his paycheck, back in the 40's. They had no children.

Interstate 43 now runs right through where the house used to stand. It was torn down in the early 60's to make way for the highway.

Alex's father's name was Fred.

More info to follow (as I remember and reread my notes).

John Borger
Hi,

It's quite possible that you do have relatives in BC and that they are schmidts. If a Borger married a Schmidt... My grandmother's name was Katarina Schmidt and my grandfather's was Heinrich. After they married, they adopted the nicknames Henry and Katie.

I think they satayed with a Borger in Winnipeg. I don't have the notes in front of me now, so i can't remember the first name of the person they were staying with, however, (and this is so far only speculation) I think theman they were staying with had a son (adom?) who started a construction complany, which in the 60's moved to Calvary. It is still one of the largest in Canada. If the son's name was Adam, like I think, he was one year old at the time my grandfather arrived.

Thanks again! I look forward to chatting with you!

John Borger

Hello,

Thank you for your information. Please contact me at jeborger@yahoo.com. I would love to hear anything that you know. Your John Miller is the John Miller I am looking for. Ilif colorado is not too far from here. I have toyed with the idea of going there and trying to locate the farm.

I need to document all of the information that I have acquired. I also need to update the Volga pages where I supplied information to Jayne.

The port of entry fo my granfather was Nova Scotia. I am unsure of my grandmother, however, her border crossing card indicates that she travelled throught the US to get to Smithers BC, her original destination.

I paid my $$ to the Vital Statistics in order to get information on my G&G marriage certificate, as well as the Birth Certificate for my Aunt Mary. It's had to believe, but even though I had the exact dates, they could find nothing. My father is certain that they were married in Winnipeg. My Aunt Mary was born there. It was on her crossing card..

Thank you so much for replying. I look forward to some detailed conversations with you. I will document everything I know and send it to you as soon as I am able.

Thanks!

John Borger

Re: Borger, TX

My mother's grandfather, Henry "Hank:" Borger was the uncle of the founder of Borger, TX. That makes my grandmother's cousin the founder. His name was Asa Philip Borger aka "Ace" aka "A.P." (1888-1934). He and his "cronies" founded several towns throughout Oklahoma and Texas, keeping their original homestead in Carthage, MO for many years. He and his wife, Liz, did eventually settle in Borger. There are many stories I heard my grandmother tell about "Ace", but not when she thought the "kids" were listening! She loved her cousin, but he had a "reputation" that the more "upstanding" members of the family wouldn't accept and she never did say much around us kids. Interestingly enough, he sold some land (cheap) to my mother's family for a homestead in western Oklahoma along with the oil rights (he was also a landman during the "boom" years in the oil business). We retain the mineral rights for the land just outside of Elk City/Carter to this day.
You can find some fairly accurate info on Ace at the UTexas site...fill in the blanks for some fun...here's the link: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/BB/...

Thank you for your response. Wish I had more info on the Borger side of my family. Grandpa was from Leipzig and had a brother, Hugo (an engineer) who went to Peru. Don't think the family had much contact with Hugo but think he may have gone to New Orleans either to visit or maybe to live. Since my first post, I have found Mama's family (Poeschel) in Gasconade, Roark Township, MO. Perhaps I need to go to St. Louis to find marriage records etc. and work back from there. Was hoping the fact that Grandpa roofed the St. Louis Cathedral would spur some memories to somebody. There should be some records of the contractor somewhere -probably the Church - of which we were never members, and I don't know how to go about it except go to St. Louis.

Borger, TX, Surname CUSHING

Looking for obit or cemetery findings on the following:
Cora Maude KIRK--b. 8 Aug 1903; d. 11 Feb 1965; married #1 husb. Marley CUSHING 11 July 1923--25 Apr 1946; married #2 husb. Bert HICKS 26 Dec 1946-25 May 1947?. Her children: May Maurine CUSHING, b. 15 May 1926-1969; son Marley Elmon (Buddy) CUSHING 28 April 1928 (at one time in USMC) Attended Borger high school & enlisted 8 Apr 1946--likely served 3 years. Maude and Maurine were both Catholic by faith and buried in Borger. Maurine had a pituitary gland deficiency; therefore, looked like a midget. Oldtimers would remember Maude because she was very outgoing and had deep dimples. I am deeply into genealogy and probably senior descendant person in this family. I would very much like obits, cemetery information to confirm my data, and would like to make contact with lost cousin Marley (Buddy) Cushing if he is still alive and in the area. She had many dear friends in the area and lived most of her life either out on an oil lease or in Borger.
No. Ellen Shupp's parents were Freeman Shupp and Hannah Hawk from the Dotter's Corner area. Ellen appears (as Ellen Schup, a servant) in the David Borger household in the 1880 census for Penns Forest, Carbon County, Pennsylvania. Adam is listed in the same household.

I am researching my great-grandfather, Adam Berger (surname also recorded as Borger and Burger). His wife's name was Ellen Shupp. I know that his parents' names were David Borger and Sarah (Sally) Bond, but I don't have any additional information about his lineage or even his siblings. I do know that Adam and Ellen are buried in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Albrightsville, PA.

I am hoping the someone will have some information about this family.

Thanks for your assistance!

Suzanne Isaksen
