Hello Ms. Boyd

My name is Ramona Washington Wilson and I'm researching my family tree. I'm from Gloucester, VA and my great grandmother, Rosa Borum, grandmother, Mary E. Borum Jackson, great aunt Rosa Bell Borum, seem to be apart of your family tree too.

If possible, I would like to see if our information is correct and locating addition information. I look forward to your response.

Respectfully,
Ramona

Hi! I copied, cut and pasted the message below that I had replied to a message from syborum who is looking for a connection but I think part of it may apply to you the surname Hightower.
*******
No the names you mention above are not familiar to me. However, my mother's maiden name was Borum but she spelled it Bouram because my grandfather couldn't read or write like so many others in the south. Pickens is a hard one. It was so popular. My grandfather, Lawrence Borum (born around 1912; Aiken. SC) had a brother named Picken but I don't think he every got married. Many family members moved to NY in 1930s. That's where I'm from. Perhaps your Picken is a brother to a Will Borum my great-grandfather or perhaps a cousin or nephew. Looking at the message board, I see you have communicated with a TopperGem in 2009 who mentions a Jack Borum marrying a Emma Hightower, it just so happens that my grandfather's brother John Borum married a Lillian (Lillie) Hightower. They lived in Bridgeport, CT. Not sure if they are related though but it would be nice to expand in include you. Good luck. Pam

Susanne Borum, I am Darrell Borum brother of Pat Borum listed on this site. She has gotten me intersted in identifying our heritage line of the borum family.

We are related john Thomas Borum[B27 May 1837/D25 March 1918 and Sarah Francis (Wood) Guy Borum (B 5 October 1836 D 29 January 1906, Their children are: John Thomas,James, Hannah and edward c.

John Thomas was the son of John stevens who married Martha (Millison) Boush in 1837. John Stevens B1796/D1855 married Martha (Millison) Boush(B1801/d1867.

John Stevens was the son Edmund Borum (B 5 May 1769)and married Elizabeth Stubbs b1171/d1867.

John Stevens borun was the son of Edmund Borum married to
married Elizabeth Stubbs around 1793.

Edmund Borum (b 5 May 1769 and Elizabeth Stubbs 9B1771/d1880
They married in 1837. Their children are:
John, Saally Jean,Franky, Wm Thorton & Benjamin

Edmund Bourum was the father of John Stevens and married to Frances Machen in 1767 [No Bith/death dats]

It appears your family started with EDMUND and Frances Machen 1767 with their son John b12 DEc 1767 and married Robins 773-1800.

Son John borum 12 December 1767 married Frances Robins 1773-1800, Their children were John Smith Borum, Benjamin T borum, Mildred S, & Thomas R, Borum who married Susan C. SStokes in 1856.
Appears our lineage traces back to Edmund & Frances Machen
in 1767,

There is the first know borum we may al trace back tio in 1607 name John Borum...hard to confirm. No luck in Sweden, but try Borum, Denmark. Google Earth wil take uo to the town and Boru church. Please let me kno if you bible or other material list the parent of Edmund Borum or Francis Machen married in 1767. I'm trying to ascertain how far we ca go back in our ancestry and from where we came.

Thanks!

Darrell W, Borum, Sr.nd

First Borum in Virginia Are listed in Records of Colonial Gloucester County Virginia Volumes I and II. Under description of lands patented within the presdent boundaries of Gloucester and Mathews Counties are John Barhan [spelling of Borum in this book Borham..Boarham..Barham..Boorum..Boram..[BORUM] in the year 1651 and 1661. Also Anne Boram 1667 and 1684 listed as having land adjoining Edmund Boram. Then we find Edmund (orphant) with land that had belonged to John Boram.

Records from Glocester Rent Roll of 1704 you will find Edw. Borum.

I have no idea when records list Borums in Amelia.

hope this helps

I found a William Van Boreham 17 years ago. It was in a listing of people 1600/1700's book somewhere---which made me wonder if the name was danish/swedish/dutch. I even cooresponded with a Kaj Borum from Sweden-----but it was short lived because he said he had no knowledge of anyone in their family immigrating to the US. Keep in mind though records go back to the 1600 in Kingston Parrish, Matthews County, VA for Borum's. The name has a Germanic sound---English is of the Germanic tree.

I have looked at you site and it has given me new hope for finding out information about my greatgrandmother, Emma Borum. I have come across many Pickens Borums, seems it was a popular name back then. I have sent information to a group of people in the group Ancestry Seekers out of Salt Lake City, Utah to do a little greater indept search of their database on my great grandmother and her family. They said they felt they could help me find out more information and their search would conclude in about two weeks so when I hear from them I will share what I receive with you. Maybe we both will get a few leads on the Borum Family out of this research.

I viewed your family tree and it appears that your great-grandmother would have been only a few years younger than him. It is quite possible that they were siblings, or at the very least, cousins. Unfortunately, I do not have any additional information about his parents or siblings.
Please feel free to view my family tree: "Borum-Smith Family Tree". If I learn any other information that may be helpful, I'll certainly pass it on.

She married Jack Hightower and they lived in the Shaws area of Edgefield, SC. I have not been able to learn anything about her family. I have only been able to find information about her after her marriage to my great grandfather. So it is a blessing to finally hear from someone who has a connect with this family. You may look at my family tree (The Jack Hightower Family) and see if anything in my tree helps you.

Re: Borums of Gloucester County,Virginia 1650 to 1810

Perhaps this will get to you. I live in the Borum home built for my 2nd Great Grandfather James Thomas Borum in Portsmouth, VA 1860. He came from Mathews, VA. as a young man in his 20's. His wife was Susan Catherine Stoakes. They frequently went back to their summer home in Cobbs Creek until they built a summer home in Ocean View Norfolk,VA. There are some family members still there in Mathews. A William Tatterson who owned a nursery--his mother is Virginia Borum Tatterson and her sister Susan Borum Brewer. I think they are still alive. I have records back to Edmund and a Bible with family names late 1700 and 1800. I also have some census records from County Essex, England back to the 1600's. I have, in the past, been in contact with Kaj Borum in Sweden. I know very far back on my line to the 1700's. The problem I have had is I don't have any records of Borum on a ship passenger list coming from England with that spelling. I know they were of the gentry in Kingston Parrish/Mathews because of the land records and wills. I just don't know how they got here and or the exact original spelling. The people in Sweden have the same exact spelling as I and told me to their knowledge no one from Sweden emigrated to the US. They seemed to think that their ancestors had been in Sweden forever. If the name is Danish then Swedish people may be right. I think though it is English since I have those census records and the name was spelled Boreham.

There is an Elizabaeth Borum in the 1860 census in the 10th ward of Buffalo, Erie Co., NY. She is a nurse, age 39 and enumerated with the family of Holden Howland, 27, mariner.

There is also an Elizabeth Boorom (sic) who married Joseph Meeker in Chicago, Cook Co., IL on April 29, 1864.

I believe these may both refer to the same woman and that she was a widow of a Borum and was born Elizabeth McCord in Dutchess Co., NY in about 1822.

Looking for anyone with a connection

I am trying to get the parents of John Hubbard Borum, b 24 Apr 1823, d 4 Apr 1907 Griffinsville, Ark, buried Ripley, TN.

It is given on an old Family Group Sheept with no references and his parents are given as Pleasant Borum and ______ Dupree who was kielled horseback riding.

There is a Joseph Henry Borum who was a brother of John Hubbard. Joseph Henry was born 20 July 1816, Prince Edward Co., VA. He had a son James. Joseph Henry was a preacher. The sheet I hae has his wife as Martha Tucker.

The parents of Pleasant Borum are given as Joseph H Borum and Ann christy Borum. I believe this to be in error.

Cary

The first sentence of the preceding message of mine regarding John Hubbard Borum is correct.

The rest is what was on a FGS. However, it is mostly incorrect. I now believe that John Hubbard Borum and Joseph Henry Borum were cousins, not brothers. They seemed to moved to the same areas. Also, they were living close together in 1850s as Rev. Joseph Henry Borum performed the marriage ceremony for John Hubbard Borum's wedding.

Cary

Re: Elizabeth Rudd and Pleasant Borum

I now know that John Hubbard Borum was the second son of Pleasant Borum of the 1850 census of Nottoway Co., VA. However, I have no idea where John Hubbard Borum was in 1850. Can't find him on any census. He was in Eastern Tennessee in 1860.

John Hubbard Borum's mother was a DuPuy. However, none of the grandchildren of John Hubbard Borum know her first name. The three living say his father was Pleasant and was buried in Griffithville, Arkansas. This small town was on the railroad from across the river from Memphis to Little Rock. If Pleasant came to Arkansas it was after 1860 when he was in his 70s in the census in Nottoway Co., VA. There was a railroad from there to Memphis Tenn in 1860. Maybe in the Civil War his younger sons brought him to Arkansas to escape the horrors of the Civil War that was fought many times in the area of Virginia where he lived.

I think the DuPuy that was John Hubbard's mother was the dau. of James Dupuy, 1758-1822. He died in Nottoway Co., VA.

Can anyone fill in the blanks?

Cary Anderson

Ranson T. Borum 1842-1932

Seeking information on Ranson T. Borum. He married Amanda A. Moore and they are buried at Good Hope Cemetery in Denton Co., Texas. Ranson is possbibly the son of Nancy Tucker, probably from NC. Nancy was married twice, first to a Jordan Johnson. Ranson one of the children born for her second marriage to ? Borum. Ranson served in Co. H Tenn Inf. C.S.A. Amanda was a teacher at Good Hope School, in Denton Co., Texas. The area they lived in was known as Parvin and Good Hope. Ranson and Amamda actually lived in Collin Co., at the area where Collin and Denton Co. join. Ranson and Amanda both lived to be 90 years old, and never had children of there own. There was also a R. Borum that was among the first settlers of the area that is possibly buried at Good Hope Cemetery in an unmarked grave. I believe he is possibly buried in the same family plot as Ranson, Amanda, and Amanda's nephew, William "Boss" Moore. The family plot is marked off and seems to be large enough for possibly 10 graves, but only 3 are marked. I am doing a study of the cemetery and the area. I would appreciate any infomation that anybody could share. Thank you for your time.
Vicki
