Hi Barb,
I've been trying to put together a little background for you with info I have on the Borys family. It's sketchy at best, but here's what I have: As far as I know, my grandma, Helen (Anyela) Borys emigrated to the US in the early 1900's. She married Ivan (John) Evanciw and had three daughters, Anna (my mother), Pauline and Michelina, who died around 1918 or 1919 during the flu epidemic. They settled in Palmerton, PA, where we still live. During my mom's childhood, they lived with her brother, Alec and his wife Katherine in Elkton, MD on a farm. There were two other sisters of my grandma's who lived with them. Anna, who was married to Louis Lazartic and Paulina, who never married, but became pregnant and apparently was thrown out of the house by Uncle Alec when he learned of this. My mother never knew what happened to her aunt. My grandma's mother was Barbara (Glucka) Borys, I think her father's name was Harry, which is a nickname for Gregory, but I'm not sure. Barbara died after having several children and her father married again, but I don't know his 2nd wife's name, and they did have more kids. Helen died in 1988; she was born in 1892. Maybe these dates will help you put the timeframe together. There are still 2nd cousins of mine who live on the original farm in Maryland. Alec and his wife had two daughters, Juliana and Ann, and their kids still live in that area. Apparently, many of the sisters' names were given to the neices. And a lot of the names were feminine derivatives of boys' names. Hope this helps. I still cannot find the list I thought I had of my grandmother's siblings, but I'm still looking and am hopeful!
