BOSHEARS, Margaret Byrum 1831-1909, Scott County Tennessee

Looking for confirmation on my grandmother. She was the adopted child of Isaac Boshears. 1796-1861.

Per "Scott County Tennessee & It's Families"- "Isaac heard of a family passing through with a baby girl which they wanted a family to raise. He rode on horseback to overtake them and brought her home to raise."

Margaret was this daughter, but my Mamaw Byrd told a much different tale when I was a child. A native american woman had come to the Boshears farm and asked them to watch over this child and she would come back for her at nightfall...but she never returned. They found her body in the pond drowned by either murder or suicide.

Does anyone else know anything about either tale? In trying to prove Margaret's native american heritage it would be nice if I could find proof of a body or at least an opinion on the different stories. Thanks in advance.

Bless you, Kevin!

One of the problems that I've been having has to do with the multitude of ways my grandmother's name is spelled. Some official family documents list her as Geraldine, others a Gerlene, and one as Geri. Here's another I can add to the list: Gurlene. :)

I thank you and so does my family!

I believe I have located your family in the 1930 Campbell County census. It is hard to read, but there is a listing for "Mill" Boshears and wife Maud and children Junior(son)and Gurline (daughter). I think the name "Mill" was meant to be Bill. Rev. William (Bill) Boshears was the son of Sterling Boshears and Phoebe Goodman Boshears. Sterling and Phoebe live next door to Bill and Maud in the 1930 census. Phoebe is Sterling's second wife; his first wife was Catherine Wilson. Sterling is the son of Jerry Boshears and Ealy Miller Boshears. Jerry is the son of Isaac Boshears and Elizabeth Wilson Boshears who settled in Scott County, TN. Dr. Charles Brashear has more information in Vol. 7 of his multi-volume work on history of the Brasseur/Brashears/Boshears, etc. family. Also, you can trace the name Steling Boshears in the previous Campbell County Census records for 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Sincerely, -Kevin Boshears
kbosh@bellatlantic.net
I'm stuck. :)

My mom and her siblings spent several years during their childhood living in Turley with their grandfather, William Harrison Boshears. He was born in 1904 and married Maude Smith (b. 1905) in 1926. I can't find anything to give me the next step for certain. There doesn't seem to be an census records mentioning the two of them or any of their children (my mom's theory is that Turley was too remote for the censustakers to bother). I was able to verify both of their deaths and their wedding, but nothing lists parent names.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Lillie Ora Boshers Aaron

I am trying to tie up a loose ends in some of my family research - trying to put some dates or locate other descendants, etc.

Anyway I have a cousin in line, a Lillie Ora Boshers who was born in about 1896 in Texas. She was the daughter of John C. Breckinridge Boshers and Sabra Ann Glover. I have not had any luck finding the family on the 1900 census but did find Lillie living with her sister and brother-in-law (John W. Durham and Annie Boshers) in the 2nd precinct of Collin County, Texas in 1910. I know that Lillie's mother died in 1908, so am assuming that the younger children were dispersed out amongst the older siblings.

I have not had much luck finding anything about Lillie after 1910. One other cousin has told me that Lillie married a Will Aaron - she believes in Texas. I have searched and hunted and cannot find proof of this as I cannot find a Will and Lillie Aaron listed together on a 1920 or 1930 census record.

Any help with this family would be great. I would love to know if she did marry this Will Aaron and there are some other descendants out there.

I can be contacted here or at rleegray@hotmail.com

Thanks so much,

Rick

John Boshears

I need help or clarification if any body knows the answer. I have in my FTM a John "M" Boshears, born 1877 and the son of Jacob L. Boshears and Martha Huckeby. I obtained this information from Family Group Sheets that were completed at a Boshears reunion in Scott County many years ago. I have purchased from Ebay a set of Boshears death certificates and I have found a John "Clayton" Boshears born 23 Dec 1873 and being the son of Jacob Boshears and Sinda Huckaby. Does any one know if this is one in the same person? Which birthdate is correct? Was the mother Martha or Sinda or both?

Hello! I found this page accidentally but glad that I did. My mother's maiden name is Boshears and recently we went to a family reunion in Oklahoma and received books on our ancestory from one of our cousins and William Riley Boshears was my great great great grandfather. We are aware there are many Boshears out there and are interested in the family geneology. Thanks to anyone who may respond to this.

Boshears Family History - Book by Dr. Parks

The full title of the book is "Like Ole Man
River : A History of the Parks, Crafton,
Boshears, McGuire, Tipton, and Dial
Families from 1607-1986", published 1986.

It is available as a loan through the
Tennessee State Library and Archives through
their interlibrary loan program. You can go
to your local library and they will contact
the Tennessee State Library and Archives to
make the arrangements. Information on these
procedures is available at:
www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/mailill.htm

After you receive the book, you may be able
to find out the name of the publisher and
purchase a copy if it's still in print.

Also, Charles Brashear is writing a multi-
volume work on the history of the Brasseur-
Brashear(s)-Boshears family. I believe that
he plans to include the West Tennessee part
of the family (Dr. Parks' mother, Henry Clay
Boshears, etc.) in Vol. 6.
Hi I've been looking at the family tree info and some of the information is either missing or incorrect. My father Clarence Hardin is now deceased and also most of the listings don't seem to include him he was the baby of the family. Married Delphia Burke had William David, Franklin Eugene, Ramona(me) Patrick Curtis and Shanna. David has one daughter Christine and she has one daughter Jordan. I have one daughter Amber and she also has one daughter Taylor. For some reason my dad seems to not be included in most of the family history. He always said he was the black sheep of the family.
