My Great Grandmother was a Bosley, from Little Marcle, Herefordshire, born 1867. Seem to be Bosleys there for most of the 1800's.

Be interested to hear from anyone related to this strain of the Bosley family.

Mu Great Grandmother then moved up to Buckinghamshire, although her family remained around Tewkesbury / Ledbury

My grandfather was Richard Bosley born 1848 in North Union Twp. Fayette Co. His father was Jacob Bosley born 1824 mother Sarah Hardy born 1821. I believe Jacob's father was Jacob Bosley born 1783. I am having a difficult time connecting past this time. There is a Jacob Bosley born 1783 died 1834 buried in Percy Methodist Cem. along with my grandparents. So I believe he is Richard's grandfather.

These are my relatives. Sarah Gorsuch married John Riddle and one of there children was Hannah Gorsuch Riddle. She married James Dixon Slade. All of the records show James Dixon Slade married Hannah C. (unknown), but I know for a fact, this is Hannah Gorsuch Riddle. My records are from my great aunt who obtained her information from authentic records owned by Dr. H.M. Slade and Dr. J.F.H. Gorsuch. Unfortunately, they didn't have xerox machines back then so I do not have the actual documentation. Greg, can you help me prove this fact?

Re: IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE TO HELP ME LOOKING FOR BOSLEY'S IN MISSOURI

Roy,

I have been discussing family tree with my daughter and decided to check one more time trying to find more about her father's family. I believe that your father was a brother to Jay G. Bosley my deceased father-in-law. I believe you are related because Aunt Coy came to see us in the late 50s and early 60s. She came with her older son, I think his name was Aaron but the last name was not Norris, That was the first time and then with her youngest son, Bill Norris the second time she visited. My daughter's father, Paul, and his brother, Roy are both deceased but their sister, Burneil is still alive and well. I will be seeing her next week and this will be a surprise to her as she and my daughter were just talking about the Bosley family and that we all know so little about them. I do remember my mother-in-law, Lillian, telling me that Jay had brothers, Preston, Roy and I believe one named Peter and a sister Coy. One brother lived in Calif and Jay was notified that he died, this may have been in the 60s.

We live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Jay & Lillian lived in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Green Bay, WI and moved to Iron Mountain, MI in 1940. Jay died in 1967 and Lillian died in 1990. Their sons both died, Roy in 1988 and Paul in 1991.

Lillian told me that Jay's mother's last name was McVarner..I think the first name was Laura or something similar to that. I do remember a family picture which I will see if Burneil has it. The family picture was of Jay's parents, some brothers and I believe Coy and Jay, Lillian and their daughter, Burneil and their son, Roy Preston.

I hope to hear from you to see if you can furnish our Bosley family with more information about the family tree.

Dahly Bosley (Bosley by marriage)

Reuben Bosley burial at Arvonia Cemetery

I am searching for family members of Reuben Bosley who is buried at Arvonia Cemtery, Osage Co., KS. Reuben had a son, Reuben and a daughter, Mary (who married a Cobb). Reuben was a Civil War veteran who served with the Co. E., 114th US Colored Infantry.

I am working on a book for the Osage Co., KS Historical Society that will cover the people who are buried at the Arvonia Cemetery, located near Arvonia, KS. I would like to include birth-death-burial dates, parents & siblings, cause of death and any interesting family information; such as where they came from, military history, family lore, occupations, etc. I will NOT be listing any birth dates of living individuals and any information used will be the type that is easily accessible by anyone.

I have a list of burials that is a compiled list from two different sources but it only covers up through the early 1990’s. I hope to complete this list to include all burials up until now.

If you would like to add any information to your ancestor/family member’s listing, please contact me directly at newtonmac@msn.com . Please type “Arvonia Cemetery” in the subject line so I don’t miss your email. With 800+ burials, I cannot list all the names here so I’m listing the surnames. If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to help. Keep in mind that most of the ladies are buried under their married names. If you’re not sure if your family member is buried in Arvonia, contact me and I’ll check for you.

Albert, Angles, Antrim, Atchison, Austin, Hart, Bailey, Barnett, Barr, Bebb, Behrendt, Benson, Blake, Bontz, Booth, Boring, Bosley, Botkin, Boyce, Briggs, Brower, Bugg, Campbell, Chambers, Clark, Clotfelter, Cosley, Cottrell, Cowden, Crabtree, Crippen, Davies, Davis, Decker, Dobson, Edison, Edwards, Elishan, Ellis, Evans, Felton, Ferguson, Frye, Funston, Gavin, Goodwin, Graham, Gray, Griffith, Griffiths, Hamman, Harris, Harvey, Hebbe, Henry, Herr/Haerr, Hilding, Hillis, Holmquist, Hooper, Hotchkiss, Hughes, Humphreys, Jenkins, Jennings, Jensen, Jeremy, Jernigan, Jessee, Jones, Kesler, King, Kirk, Knight, Larson, Leach, Lewis, Lloyd, Lowman, Maloney, Marker, Mays, Metzger, Miller, Mochamer, Monfort, Moore, Morgan, Morris, Moses, Near, Nesbitt, Newlee, Newman, Newton, Ormsby, Owens, Padgett, Parker, Parrey, Parry, Peterson, Pettay, Phillips, Pickens, Powell, Prentice, Price, Protheroe, Rees, Reynolds, Rich, Richards, Roberts, Robinson, Rouland, Rumph, Samuel, Sanderson, Schedel, Shepard, Shirley, Sloan, Small, Smith, Southworth, Spillman, Standiferd, Stephens, Sterrett, Still, Tankersley, Terril, Terrion, Thomas, Thompson, Trueblood, Umdenstock, Walker, Wallace, Ward, Watkins, Whaner, Whildin, White, Williams, Williamson, Wilson, Witherspoon, Woodin

Anita (Newton) McKinney
Colorado Springs, CO
Thomas Potts Bosley

Thank you for your response. There were several Bosley families who settled in Grundy and Mercer counties, MO. I imagine they were all related in some way but don't know how. Even today, the many Bosley families who remain in this area do not know if or how they are realated. Grundy county, MO, is in the early process of compiling a history book on any family settling or living there in the past. I hope the Bosley family will be well respresented.

I think you'll find that William's parents were Thomas Bosley b c1820 in Baltimore and Elizabeth Frances Wheeler b c1814 in Maryland. You are fortunate because the thread from William on back is a direct line to The Walter in abt 1660.

Michael, I am in Brisbane Australia but was born in New Zealand. My gg grandfather William Henry Bosley was born in Gloucester with a father Charles who was a shipwright. William migrated to NZ in the 1860s. I haven't had an opportunity to visit the UK yet but plan to do so in the next couple of years. There are a lot of Bosleys that appear unrelated especially in the US. I have not managed any family tree stuff for the last couple of years but am now back into it. I don't see a direct link with your line yet but time will tell.

Cheers

Who were William's parents? Somebody please help.

I recently broke through a brick wall and learned that William and Rachel were my Great-great-grandparents. They're all over District 5 of the Baltimore censuses from 1860 through 1920 yet I can't figure out who William's folks were.

They seem to live near Black Rock Road and Trenton Road as evidenced by the 1920 census. They're buried at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. If I'm correct, the Bosley Methodist Church is nearby as well.

My grandfather, William Raymond Harris, and his sister Rosa, live with them in the 1910 census so I know I have the right folks.

Send help ... I'm stumped ... again.

Frances BOSLEY(?), 1693?-1758, Stafford County, VA

I just been told that Frances BOSLEY was the wife of William O'DANIEL, 1691?-1728?, of Stafford County, VA. The information is from HALBERT family tradition handed down in writing for about 5 generations. Frances' granddaughter, Elizabeth O'DANIEL, daughter of John O'DANIEL and Elizabeth MOXLEY, married Isaac HALBERT.

Does anyone have any information that may confirm BOSLEY, or another, surname for Frances? Any clues would be most appreciated.

Frances is my 5th great-great-grandmother, through descendants of her son, James O'DANIEL.

Bob Daniell
Re: Mary Elizabeth Bosley

Mary Elizabeth Bosley married William Coe and emigrated to Australia from England in 1925, with their three daughters. William had served in the Dragoon Guards and had spent time in India where two of their daughter were born. They returned to England and lived in the Exeter area for a while before moving back to Berkshire. The emigrated on the 'Orama' sailing in November 1925.

They had daughters, Louise (Louie) Rita and Beryl. Decendents are still living in Australia today.

Re: Bosley decendants in Gloucestershire

The thread for your Bosley's is somewhat dated now. My grandfather was Albert Bosley b Bristol, England. His family originally lived in Stogumber. We have visited the village [very picturesque and been to the Somerset archives and Bristol and gained a good deal of info. My G Grandfather was a stone mason and is known to have worked on several cathedrals including Gloucester.

Albert was in the Royal Horse and then Garison Artillery. He served in India and as a big gunner in WW1. He married my grandmother [Minnie Hopcroft] but he died in 1924. They has just one daughter, Dorothy, my grandmother who died in 2005, aged 94.

I have some WW1 war records and know that part of the family moved to the West Midland area.

We have quite a lot of family information, photographs etc. and would be willing to share.

Where are you located?

Michael Day
