I was hoping to receive a reply to my post. You see, your grandfather Joseph Bossie is my grandfather too. Although this is a bit confusing to me, I would be happy to learn who you are. Your username is JBossie so i'm rather certain that you are not a brother or a cousin that i'm aware of. Please reply. My Grandmother was Marie Bossie. My Great Grandfather was married to a Kiowa woman.

Parents: Burven and Barbara Bossie. Dad originally from WV. Born 1930. Grandparents: Carl and Mae Bossie last lived in Melbourne, FL. We moved to TX in 1976. I have two brothers - Barry and Blair Bossie whom I'm close to. Are you related to us?

Tom Bossie here, was born in Grand Falls NB in 1959 but was raised in Van Buren, ME. My father was Eugene Joseph Bossie born in Portage Lake Maine on Sept 22,1926. His father was Joseph Bossie of Portage Lake. I think he was born in 1895. Any realtives?

BOSSIER / BOSSIE' letter >1806 > Natchitoches County, Louisiana

In Louisiana, the BOSSIE' surname has evolved into BOSSIER, however these letters were dated 1806, while BOSSIE' was still BOSSIE'.

Attached are photocopies of two letters dated March 1806 and July 1806, written from Natchitoches County, Louisiana. The author was writing to "Mon Oncle" ("my uncle"), and the letters were addressed to Charles BARRE' in Opelousas. The authors signature is a bit flourished and difficult to decipher, but is looks like it is a BOSSIE' [BOSSIER] signature.

These letters were written in French.

Charles BARRE' was a brother of Rosalie Charlotte BARRE' (wife of Francois Paul BOSSIER I), and Charles BARRE' was an uncle to their BOSSIER children.

Hopefully someone will a look at these photcopies of the letters and compare the signature to other Natchitoches Parish/County BOSSIER / BOSSIE' signatures of that era.

I am trying to learn the full name/identity of the person who authored those letters. (an English translation would be nice, too <grin>).

The March 1806 letter consists of one page front and back, one side being the letter, the other side being the cover. The July 1806 letter consists of a two page letter plus the cover.

The original letters are in the John Close papers collection, housed in the Special Collections Department at Hill Memorial Library at LSU in Baton Rouge, La. The collection consists of about 300 - 325 letters and other documents dated 1802 through 1872. Early documents were addressed to Charles Barre', his son-in-law, John Close, and the later letters (after 1865) were addressed to John Close's son-in-law, Desire' Godet.

Searching for parents/siblings of Patrick J. Bossie, b. 21 Apr 1912 in Van Buren, ME, d. 10 Apr 1989, Portsmouth, NH, married Rowina Plourde, b. 2 Feb 1916 St. Lenard, Canada, d. 1980 in New Hampshire. Patrick & Rowina had 8 children between 1937 & 1956, Any info or suggestions would greatly appreciated.

did your grandfather happen to have a brother by the name of albert joseph bossie....albert was my grandfather....our family was in Nashua NH for a long time but everyone is passed on now and we have no recollection or memory of his family...did he have brothers and sisters.....the ancesters came from Quebec from a village called Kamouraska...the family has been there since the 1600's...many left at the tail end of the 1800's in search of work in Maine,NH and Mass.I quess this doesn't help you much but maybe it is a thread.....
